    I made this record back in '79, it was on a 45rpm. I recorded it in Nashville while doing the morning show at 96 KISS. The actual 45 rpm (which I still have a couple of copies of) lists my name right under "Popular Demand". I used the name "Popular Demand" so that when I played it on the radio, it wouldn't sound like I was requesting my own song...I would say "here it is again, by Popular Demand!" It was number one on Dr. Demento's "Funny Five" weekly countdown for several weeks! ~Jim Zippo

      I heard it in Oct. '79 from Dr. Demento when KTFX was Tulsa's "SuperFox".
      Indeed it *was* in the "Funny Five" at that time. I tried to capture it on cassette with my portable recorder held up to the radio speaker but was never able to get the whole thing. In fact I never even *heard* the whole thing until I found it here on CZcams.

    I am the announcer on this! Jim Zippo, radio personality...I remember recording this in Nashville back in 1979, I still have a couple of original 45rpm copies of it. It was featured on the Dr.Demento show, and went to #1! My website is jimzippo dot com!

    her this on the Dr. Demento show in 1979. Brings back the memories!

    It's a "Dickey Goodman" (Mr.Jaws) style song, with clips from hits. As I recall, the tagline announcer at the very end of it is Jeff Keyes. JZ.

    They have cars from the 2000s in the 1979 line I don’t think that’s possible

    What people may not know (or may not remember) is that by 1979 (the year this record was released), motorists in the western world (U.S., Canada, Mexico, et al), as well as some European and Asian countries (Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, China, Japan, and the Koreas just to name a few) were limited to $4.00 per day of gasoline. If the station ran out of gas, the station attendant would close the gas pumps and people would be told they couldn't come back until the pumps were full again. This was the extent of the fuel shortage that had been going on since 1973.

    This bit would be appropriate today with gas prices rising

      "Lawman" is actually "Renegade". You missed something by Rod Stewart, just didn't recognize exactly what. Also missed "Rubber Biscuit" by the Blues Brothers. I coulda swore that "He's the Greatest Dancer" was by Sister Sledge and not Chic, even though it's a Nile Rodgers joint all the same. Also, the announcer at the end sounds like yet another third-rate Gary Owens impersonator.

      @EricEbac22 Před 6 lety

      I've never heard of either "Rubber Biscuit" *or* the Blues Brothers.

      The Blues Brothers were Dan Aykroyd (Elwood Blues) and John Belushi (Joliet Jake Blues). They began as a recurring skit on Saturday Night Live, which led to a pair of feature films, the first in 1980 followed by "Blues Brothers 2000" in 1999 with John Goodman taking Belushi's place. They also released several albums around the time of the SNL appearances and first film, most of which were covers of Chicago blues numbers or R&B numbers influenced by same (though one of their bigger hits was a cover of "Gimme Some Lovin'", which wasn't out of Chicago though quite possibly influenced by that scene). Somewhere in between the two films, Aykroyd hosted a syndicated radio show in character as Elwood which focused on this same type of music.
