there's something about that T-rex, made totally out of 2D sprites carefully layered on top of each other with perfectly fluid animation, for some reason it really looks scarier than a T-rex in a modern 3D game
Well, you're somewhat right, but not really. There is no way 1 person can make over 10 sprites using only 32 bits, most 32 bit games like this one use this technique called "Image to Pixel converter", only works on graphics 32x and above, so most of the enemies in this game were hand drawn first, then converted to pixels
My sister an I never went often enough to see much progress beyond that point… but we did reach it, which was enough to fill us with a sense of accomplishment ☺️
The genius of this is that they included a T.Rex chase at the beginning so you would be basically guaranteed to see the T. Rex even on one credit. Then they made the final boss a rematch. Growing up I of course never got to the end, but I relived that opening chase sequence over and over.
My dad was (still is) a super high up manager at chuck e cheese. He'd always be attending corporate meetings out of the country. I would always want to go to chuck e cheese just for this game. He would open the machine up and hit the trigger that registered a coin drop, like 50 times. So I would just play this game endlessly. One of my favourite childhood games.
I like how the end implies that you were just tranquilizing everything. Like, you just machine-gun tranqued the hell out of a thousand dinosaurs and a pair of sleepy t-rexs.
I just love the idea that, canonically, you're using tranquilizer rifles in this game, despite all the shit that gets blown up by said guns. Like Dr. Hammond was sitting there discussing the budget for the park and said: "Make sure we put aside a sizable portion of the budget for tranquilizer guns, in case of emergency. And the tranquilizer we use should be powerful enough to take down a tyrannosaurus rex." "Yes, sir, we'll get right on -- " "And strong enough to blow open cage doors, blow up oil barrels, break apart giant rolling boulders, and make abandoned park jeeps explode." "...Sir, when are we EVER going to need to blow up -- " "Did I STUTTER?"
It gets better; in the book, Hammond, contrary to his image of “sparing no expense”, was actually an enormous tightwad and cut corners every place he could. Muldoon, the park’s game warden, had argued for rocket launcher tranquilizers (apparently that’s a thing) and lethal weaponry exceeding .50 cal to put down these enormous beasts if needed, but was shut down; in the end, he only managed to procure 2 launchers for the entire park. THIS game is what would’ve happened if Muldoon got his way!
It's insane to know that I played this game as a child and then just last week I'm playing a Jurassic World arcade game with my son at Dave and Busters. Insane lol
What made this game special is that if your were lucky, you can find the arcade cabinet with a wide seat meant for two that would shake and simulate the ride of the jeep, making you feel as if you were in the jurassic park game. IT was the shit and the only reason I went the the nearest Chuckie Cheese until they decided to get rid of the good games and nobody came there anymore.
My local arcade was blessed with one of these but i guess to many fat kids wore it out becuase after a few years it was sort of just a meek rocking sensation and would sometimes just get stuck at an angle. Oh well still fun tho

This isn't a coin eater. The health logic is the same as in Terminator 2 Midway and Operation Thunderbolt. If the dinos attacking 1P side on the left, you take damage, if the dinos attacking on the right, you don't take damage. Same thing with 2P side.

Surprising how well lots of sprites plus scaling and rotation can mimic 3d. Also the indiscriminate destruction of all animal life including the friendly brontosaurus and even the dolphins made me chuckle.
I was like, why are they so relieved, THERE WERE TWO, the other one walked back into the jungle then the one that fell down finally cought up which is the one they put to sleep right now, the other T-Rex could have easily eaten them
This game is mesmerizing; the way the environment you're driving on looks, all these 2D images on the 3D environment, the fast music, it all makes for a surreal watch.
Even now the opening sequence with the build up to the T-Rex is terrifying. Even as it turns into an action chase scene the T-Rex is still scary as hell. It's nuts that this game is only 15 minutes long. It seemed so much longer as a kid.

This game is legitimately impossible to beat entirely without losing a life. No matter if you get health packs, there’s no way you can make it to the end without losing a life. Better bring a good amount of tokens with you if you want to finish it.
The game console menu (the one arcade owners can access) has a "minutes per coin" feature, meaning that the game is programmed to take as much health possible, at the time limit established by arcade owners😅.

Well, yeah of course. It's just a series of repeating sprites that would create the illusion of a 3D terrain. But for 1994, something like that would be pretty cool.
LOL, yeah...those automatic assault rifles filled with infinite ammo were just loaded with tranquilizers, and they put all those dinosaurs to sleep....sure they did.
This brings back memories, I remember playing this in an arcade as a kid, and I would always choose player 1 because the controls for player 2 never worked in the entire lifetime of that Arcade.

Coming back to this game as an adult, I have to marvel at the suspension of that car they're driving. Small enough to drive up a brachiosaur's back yet strong enough to survive the ensuing jump. Like some kind of Kryptonian golf cart.
I was thinking throughout this video that I'd use a genie's wish to get that jeep.

It took me like 20 years to watch Jurassic Park after playing this game, so for the longest time, this game is everything I associated with Jurassic Park. This game is honestly better than the movie.
Ha ha ha, I love how the triceratops keep damaging Player Two like they had some vendetta against him/her.
-first boss is a T-rex
-constant barrage of pterosaurs and raptors at every corner
-uses a Brachiosaur as a ramp over a river
-driving across a wooden bridge over a lava pit shooting at a velociraptor army
-Visitor Center is in the middle of a lake for some reason
-T-rex moon jumps across a chasm
-AREA 3's mid-boss is the rolling ball from Raiders of the Lost Ark
-weapons ostensibly designed to pacify and tranquilize dinosaurs (I assume) are powerful enough to make cars explode
-music sounds like a carnival ride done by GWAR
*CONCLUSION:* this game is on fucking crack
A few PCP chasers:
- Players' vehicle is a limited edition Adamantium-frame Ford Explorer (with optional Vibranium suspension), able to withstand several full-speed hits from a 13-ton triceratops and a 500+' fall
- Player characters can easily drive said vehicle IN BOTH DIRECTIONS through long stretches of winding, extremely jagged terrain at near-constant full speed with no apparent hindrance to their aiming skills
- Fortunately, many of the dinosaurs seem to have conveniently swallowed First Aid kits

I played this at Chuck E Cheeses when I was a kid. I've only ever beaten it three times. One time alone, and the other 2 were with my parents. One of my favorite arcade games.
Watching this now made me realise I never got further than Area 2 as a kid. Thank you for uploading the entire game for my nostalgia trip!

Thats probably one of the most arcade game i ever saw. Nonstop turbofire, the music goes from 0 to 1000% very fast starting with a T-Rex and nonstop action.

Was scared to play this alone when I was a little kid. But I always found the mix of 2D and 3D objects in this game to look so fascinating, and how fast paced of the game was, and the amount of dinosaurs attacking you at once, if only the difficulty was much easier.

The difficulty for this game is what motivates you to keep on playing the moment you die.

They are scaled 2D Sprites which were very innovative at that time.
The real excitement of this game came from that chair that yeeted you around.
