Technically if you use a hardware-based VM supervisor you can achieve a bit better, cause the Windows 10 installed on it is already virtualised. Also, multiple processors might work, though I don’t know how to achieve that, or something monstrous like threadripper.
Windows 7 may fare a better chance.
Based on your comment, Linux should do for a WAY better record. Not because of lightweight distros, but because of KVM. (In my opinion, you are 100% correct)

I once managed 3 working Ubuntu 18 layers with 8 gb and 8 threads on the host machine, I didn’t know about the thread setting in VMware at the time so all of them ran with only 2 threads. It was on a laptop but I’ve got a machine with a 16 thread processor and 32gb of ram now so I think I could manage more on that if I tried.
What about decreasing the Windows version? Like from Win10 in the first layer to Win95 in the last?

@@shadowthefurryscientist You'd have to use Windows 2000. From there, Windows NT 4, then NT 3.x. But since there's no virtualization software for Windows NT 3.x, Windows NT 3.51 is where this destination ends.

Windows 120: You need 2TB ram to start Windows. Mininum RAM: 2TB
Maximum RAM: 780TB
Windows 666: You need 100 PB to install windows.

The most logical way of doing this is to run the oldest version of Windows supported by VMware, running VMware on that version and so on, meaning that the resources used are very low, and finally then you can make an VMception.

Your first layer has slightly better specs than my PC, I have 4 cores with hyperthreading (which makes 4 extra virtual cores) but you made a VM with 8 cores.

Got onto my beast gaming pc. Got 9 layers deep before the thing turned out like shown in the last one in the vid, though after optimisations within windows itslef and all the layers, i was able to get another layer deep resulting in ten layers

@@noble_lime Why do you say that? I would argue that Kali, a OS made for vitalization would perform much better than an operating system meant to be ran on a base machine. Linux is out of the box less demanding than Windows 10, meaning I could run it on my Raspberry Pi, but no way I could run Windows 10 on it. I might be wrong, and of course at some point you hit a hard wall no matter what, but I'm sure Linux would run better.

By using Microsoft's Hyper-V I was able to go 5 layers deep.

I have done windows xp on windows vista on windows 7 on windows 8 on windows 10 and windows 10
all on a 6 core ryzen and 16 gigs of ram (2 were allocated for graphics memory as mine was an apu), and also I installed everything on a spare 512gb sata SSD

If you do this again (For whatever reason) I would suggest audit mode instead of all that setup :)
Enable "virtualization Technology" to run windows 10 in windows 10 in windows 10, to do this you need to enable UEFI in the machine settings
qemu/kvm with passtrought config will do the trick. btw its on linux so use it.

Internet (for VMWARE)
Oh, also, do not forget the power supply and the case
And you'll be just fine (without considering the price)
Note: The MSI TRX40 PRO Motherboard can only take 256GBs of RAM at max, so do not reply for increasing the RAM
