One quick note/correction I would like to make is that I never mentioned that the steam deck also has a desktop mode where you can use a full internet browser and install applications like discord/spotify! My apologies for not including that. If I had, it would have been placed in the "Tiebreaker" section for sure.
Thank You for watching!
Ohhh really? Ok thats not bad..
The Steam Deck can be used as a fully functional Desktop PC in Desktop Mode.

Wow! Such an amazing review! Thank you for such effort!
This was a very fair and honest side by side and you made solid points the whole way through. No complaints here. Keep pushing out these videos. Great job!
Great video. Now do a new one with the Steam Deck Oled 😂
Literally the same device with a bit better screen and bit longer lasting battery
And a little bit more performance also looks cooler
@@dexter2898 "a bit better" The new OLED is LEAGUES ahead of the old one. 600 instead of 400 nits in SDR mode, 1000 peak in HDR mode (which I think none of the other handhelds have) and 90 instead of 60hz.
@@xXYannuschXx that's what I said. Just a bit better. It's nice that they didn't increase the price though. Still not comparable to rog ally or legion go considering that the price difference is like 50 to 100 bucks
@@dexter2898 Thats not a bit, thats a mile. Thats pretty much the same image quality as high end gaming OLEDs, especially the HDR mode (many OLED TVs cant even reach 1000 peak nits).
The ROG Ally and Legion have worse software and battery life though. And no trackpads for mouse oriented controls. Their performance is nice, but everything else is just better on the Steamdeck.
Great in-depth video. Very pro and likable, you should have way more subs!
Pretty comprehensive comparison here. Nice video 👍.
Thanks for the honest review. It was very useful 🎉 and it helped my final decision
You can use the trackpads outside the desktop mode in game mode. To do so hold down the steam button to the left and move the right trackpads. Yw
Hey ! It's me again. Just wondering can you use the other joycon to play multiplayer like the switch ? I want to play with my friends as well
Can you do a dedicated emulation video? Especially with RPCS3 with the Uncharted games and Twisted Metal 2012?
Great Review
One thing you didn’t mention is places to buy and ability to have hands on.
Legion having the ability to go to a micro center or Best Buy and checking it out, possible open box deals more frequent then stream deck deal or refurbished.
Very good point!
Nice video. I like the part about the touchpad. That is why I'll stay with my SD, I play strategies/crpgs on touchpad there for hours and it feels comfy on SD. I cannot imagine doing that with the touchpad placed in the lower corner on even heavier machine. Seems like that touchpad on Lenovo is not meant for that.
I've been on the fence about trading my Steam Deck for the Legion Go. I love my Deck but hate how it struggles to run some games smoothly. Still in the fence about spending the money or waiting till the next generation.
I was happy about the Legion Go... I love my Legion laptop, and I love my Steam Deck. All other handhelds have been a no-go because I need that trackpad. I used a friends Legion Go though, and its just very uncomfortable in my hands and harder to use the controllers for me... I couldn't really use the Legion well. I love the Legion has a lot faster APU... but everything else is better with the Steam Deck for me. I may upgrade my Steam Deck to a Steam Deck OLED here soon.
@VicariousNick55 what was the max fan speed on the lenovo legion go??
All 3 major PC handhelds is quite different from each other, making the choice hard.
I bought Lenovo Lenovo Go for several reasons and i love the huge screen and controllers.
get all 3 and stop being poor
@@FussyPickles I always have money you clueless idlot. Go find poor people like you elsewhere.
I don't know why the windows handhelds don't use a shell replacement that loads up explorer on exit or when minimised on the out of the box setup. I assume its to do with windows being used for regional settings and general windows setup on first launch, but after the software loads, you would think it would set it as the default shell so you would not see windows until you load the desktop. It would go a long way to making it seem like a handheld console with windows rather than a windows tablet for gaming.
Its what I do for my arcade cabinet, though I do have to do a win+r to run explorer if I need it, but it makes the whole arcade cabinet experience more seamless rather than a windows PC in a big case with a built in screen that runs emulators.
The stiffness of the stick has nothing to do with hall effect or not but with the springs the stick uses. I have hall effect sticks in my Deck, and there is literally no difference in stiffness compared to the default ones, you can notice them however because the dead zone is way lower almost instant move!
I have both as well, and yeah it comes down to use case. If i just want a console, plug and play experience, steam deck. If I want a more compatible and capable device, legion go. Steam Deck OLED kind of kicks the Legion Go where it hurts with the vastly improved screen, but still have the same possible compatibility issues. Also with game pass, a windows device is more or less needed, unless you get the cloud gaming tier of service. Both have their use cases, and be happy with what you're happy with :D.
I wouldn't say vastly improved screen. It's better, but its closer than many would think. I actually would take the Asus ally screen. It's 16:9, which would have better overall compatibility. It's also 120hz with VRR. So overall you will have a much smoother experience. To me the trade off for slightly more vibrant screen with the deepest blacks is worth it
You can put 'Wallpaper Engine' on the GO.... that would make it look amazing vs the steam deck in desktop mode. All that said... I'm going with the SD OLED refresh over the GO. Thanks for your video. I wish you had the OLED as it has better speakers and other internals as well (just for your own enjoyment)... but even OG Deck vs GO, I pick the Deck. (I also trust valve to better the device way more than lenovo will theirs)
What's the game at 28:40 ? Couldn't hear it. Also the game at 23:00 thanks
you said there is no vrr on lenovo, you didnt mention vrr on steam deck though, i misunderstand is it on steam deck or isnt it
Oh my apologies the steam deck also does not have VRR
Are there any benefits to owning both??
I would love to see this redone with the OLED. TBH I was wavering between buying the new Steam Deck (I have the current 512) or a Legion GO. You have helped me decide. Thank you.
What did you decide?
From what I gather the OLED is mainly a better/bigger(7.4 vs 7") screen, some more battery life, and slightly (under 10% ) performance improvement in some games. I am in the same boat I have the LCD steam deck at the moment. And despite having some FOMO of the new OLED I don't think the screen justifies purchasing the entire handheld again. I guess the question is why are you wanting to upgrade the LCD steam deck to start with? If you want more performance Legion GO, if you want easier access to games outside of the steam Library, Legion go. If you love the steam deck but hate the screen (but don't mind the small size) then maybe go with the OLED as that seems to really be the selling point of the new OLED model.
I think I am going with a 2TB Legion GO@@HardcoreAlex
@@JohnStoneDVG that's not sure at all

Does anyone know if it’s possible to install windows 10 on the Legion go….just curious
Thanks the vid, now i just gotta figure out if i should get the Legion Go or Ally.
Also why are people so obsessed with steam they feel the need to defend it for free

Mine doesn't at all. It says it's charging but it won't even go up 1% after 30 minutes of playtime
@@VicariousNick55 that’s gotta be faulty. Now it won’t go past 95 percent because it’s in battery protection mode if it’s plugged in
@@DeezNutzHot no it doesn't matter what percent I'm at. It's quite a common issue in the Legion Reddit community so it's not just me. But they are working on a fix for it

If Legion go was oled, there would have been no competitors
I wish mk2 is equipped with it
(May not since it may share same screen with y700)
Does your Legion Go have issues reading SD cards? I keep hearing about people with defective Legion Go devices that can't read sd cards.
Nope, mine has had no issues with the SD card. I even have all my emulated games running off it!
@VicariousNick55 I'm a Windows 10 PC gamer (M&K). Do you believe Legion Go is worth getting? (I neither have a Rog Ally or Steam Deck). Personally, the biggest curiosity is... can the Legion Go run a Free2Play title called "Planetside 2" during a large fight 98+ vs 98+. I saw somewhere Legion Go CPU can go up to 5.1GHZ (CPU is necessary to run Planetside 2).
@@ProGamingProphecyplanetside 2 is an old game lol non of the handhelds will struggle to run it
The steamdeck can play stray game smoothly why the legion ko cannot play it smoothly?
I've had my sights set on the legion go since it's been announced. But now with the oled steam deck coming out I'm having second thoughts...
If anyone in the comments can help me out, I’m going out of town in the next couple weeks and I want to get a steam deck or a Lenovo legion go, which is the better
Steam deck
I think the steamdeck has the absolute perfect controller layout and 2 very usefull touchpads for gameplay. But the legion go for me personally is superior based off being windows and having detachable controllers. Its very nice to sit back and play that way.
Legion go is better
It better it’s like 700$
So hard to pick between these two. For me it comes down to this. Windows is so clunky on a handheld. But the Steam Deck has issues playing things outside of Steam. The Go can be a tablet, that's huge IMO. But at it's price, I'd say a laptop is a better buy. Tough. If you wanna just do games, its hard to argue against the SD. The GO is a gorgeous piece of kit. But windows is so rough on a device like that. Gen 2 of both of these should be amazing.
Plus Valve make an effort to study and listen to what the consumer and community wants. They delay on the release of the 1st steam deck just to iron some of the problem they encounter. They not just release it just to sell and made money. Look at them now. Average consumer love the steam deck, because its cheap yet the quality is one of the best. Yes it has some flaws but they learn and listen. Now Steam Deck OLED is born and thats not the STEAM DECK 2. Just some minor adjustment that lacking on the consule. imagine what the specs of the future steam deck 2 will have.
All that and can’t run modern games 😴
@@QfromDetroit like i said, its not perfect. But it made from day one to be a gaming console. Not a window console. Just dont be sacred to admit that Legion Go made a crappy user interface. Where's the fun in that. Yes its specs are hype. Its to advance to make a direct boot to the game library
@@chowna7941valve made a shitty interface to begin with too, it’s been out almost three years of course it’s polished. The Legion Go came out 10 days ago and you don’t understand that it takes time to develop software? I agree that the steam deck isn’t a windows handheld but why does valve get a pass and Lenovo doesn’t?
@@streetlama1607 tell me. How long does Lenovo making Laptop? Are they not much more familiar in making user and friendly interface unit. Why cant they do it now? Coz they realize how big of a pie is on the gaming consule. They saw ROG are successful on it. Why not they? They are all for the profits. But wait, is Valve making tones of profits on the steam deck. Nope! They knew what challenges they facing and they have BALLS, i mean goals to make a product and let consumer dictate whats best for it. They made the steam deck RIGHT TO REPAIR accessable to many. Even though they do not encourage the people to that. Remember this is there 1st consule. How about Lenovo, what have they done for the past decade?
@@streetlama1607 right of the bat. When you turn on your steam deck. What interface greats you. Is it not a user interface? Yes its still has clitches on games. But we are talking how userfriendly it is. I open my Deck and automatically i can play games. Not going to the process of accessing windows 1st they look for my games. If i want to Lenovo is Doing, i rather play games on my Laptop and not but a consule. Its an insult.
wtf the Legion GO does NOT charge while playing???
At the moment, no.
They did that so it doesnt over heat the system
It does charges when gaming but very very slow in order to reduce heat.
Legion Go wins because of the wallpaper with the cute dog! 🥰
I love my Steam Deck. It realy represent a handheld gaming in justice way. No need worry about Update system, Sleep mode is soo right, Menu is simple. And because this is a handheld, i no worry about the performance. As long i can play a game with stable frame rate, im in. Some people is concern about not all game can install in SteamOS linux, but for me this is like Switch. The handheld to enjoy when i go outside. Not for competitive. Play when waiting my wife in groceries, then just click Power button to Sleep mode instantly when she finish. Just like that.
Sometime i use it as desktop Mode dock using JSAUX and turn it on almost nonstop all day. 1 Year doing that with my Steam Deck and the battery life still good. Love Steam Deck.
PS: Maybe i will buy Windows 11 handheld system if another company also make it (like MSI maybe) so we have a lot of choice. And i hope Microsoft consider make Windows Mobile Edition for Handheld System like Legion Go.
I definitely dont know how both items work hands-on. But the lenovo legion go looks more promising
I already purchased the Steam Deck and i love it, it is the Handheld that i always wanted (until valve made it actually true)
Oled?
Most games that I'd want to play handheld are on the EGS because I got them for free or heavily discounted. Windows + Lenovo is just more versatile. Also, the kickstand for using it as a small tablet is just *chef's kiss*
Plastic (for Steamdeck) or concrete (for Legion)..
Sell both and buy the new Oled version Steam Deck
is oled really that much better than lenovo screen though?
@@frdsg8350 it's not

@@frdsg8350 According to some testers, not by miles. It is better, but the Lenovo screen is really good!
I would not hook up the decision on the screen but, more on which games you play do the controllers fit your needs, can you live with windows or linux etc... there are so many factors which are more important, including battery life.
While in the age of power banks it is no that important anymore it can be a nuisance!
Also one thing very important can you quickly send the device to sleep and recover it, this is a function very important for mobile devices, that you basically can send a game reliably into sleep and can quickly recover from it!
The screen while an important factor should not be the only decision for your purchase.
if the deck had a higher res screen and linux could use google drive itd be perfect
why do you need google drive on a handheld gaming console?
You cannot use an official solution for Google Drive, but you can still get it working on Linux... but for Steam Deck, I am not sure you could have that working in Game Mode, just in Desktop Mode.
Looks like you're in luck 😂
The heat problem and sharp edges on the Legion will be fixed by a third-party company watch..
why compare apples to oranges when there are a ton of more comparable windows handheld available
Because they are both handheld gaming systems and very hot topics right now??
then why not compare it to a Nintendo Switch also it's a handheld gaming device and it has sold more than any handheld@@VicariousNick55

@@WeKNOWTHETRUTHITSUNDISTPUTED hahaha. Didn't meant to offend some Legion Go fan. Its just not fair to compare a 2 yr old to a new born. Anyway, the review is great. I just think the way Valve handle the operation of the steam deck, they are awesome. They gave what the consumer wants and not just for making big money. Just update alone done in the new STEAM DECK OLED, it should be price around the same price of the Legion Go. But stil, they made it way cheaper and accessable to average consumer. Thats why they are successful in their work. They listen!
@@MrWhis-fe5hs yes. With its imperfection, its stil can stand toe to toe with your ally and Go. Now it has a little upgrade. I dont think its even fair to call it toe to toe anymore. Remember, with just the crappy screen and battery it still a bit better. Just sad that it will take longer to make the Steam Deck 2. This OLED version is not a 2. Just a minor upgrade. Coz they listen to their consumer
@@MrWhis-fe5hs like the reviewer said. He bought the GO for a gaming consule. Not a mini laptop. So he atleast make it a gaming consule that work out of the bat when you turn it on. If i wants windows to be my main library i should have just play it on my full size laptop with windows 11 🤣🤣🤣
Btw the steam deck is also a portrait display with no vrr. So the legion go's screen is superior to the steamdeck's screen in literally every way.
However, the asus rog and legion go trade blows.
Yeah I didn't mention it about the SD because their custom operating system makes the portrait display not an issue really at all unlike the legion.
But no VRR still sucks for sure.

theres a new steam deck woohoo
oled
Ok, my comments as I also own both, however the steamdeck is on ebay. first off your initial comment is wrong as to them being different devices. They are both handheld devices for gaming. Are they different, yes, the two main differences are processor strength and size of the screen. After that it is personal preference and $. For now the steamdeck is more comfortable to hold, and the steamdeck software is much better. Other than that the larger screen on the Go blows the SD out of the water as does the processor speed. If you cannot afford the GO then get the SD you will like it. I did but the screen size was the main issue for me as games like Cyberpunk that have text dialog options which are hard to read on the SD screen
You said my first comment is wrong and then proceeded to say the exact same thing I did in the video? What?
I was talking about the statement at marker 30 seconds. Not necessarily your comments or feelings
Meanwhile... steam deck oled...
😂😂
You guys just don't understand it's not better than Lenovo legion go.
facts, steamdeck is just minor to lenovo GO in all the matters tbh.@@JohnStoneDVG
Yes they did a decent device and Valve does support it a lot, but ANY even chineese bullshit handheld consoles are superior and offer pretty much from the box just by having windows all the stuff that steamdeck needs years to implement.
Old ass 3 years AYA console is almost two times more frames, 60 fps most of the games even the new ones from the box, and literally has trillion of different upgrade packs from china for 3$.
Steam deck is good and it does a lot of portable gaming, but lenovo legion is just OP, even asus rog console it superior to steam deck
The legion GO has a more performant APU, and a cool gimmick with the controllers. Everything else, is better on the deck OLED. The legion has no battery life to speak of, I'm not sure how Im supposed to use that on the go. Its called Legion GO, 50 minutes is not much, especially with the arduous bootup sequence every single time. It's heavy, and the sharp corners on the side hurt my hand. If I have to be wired to the power, what is the point? Its basically a laptop in the formfactor of a handheld. I think Windows is cool if you want to play certain games that don't play on the deck, but why wouldn't I just play that on a desktop? For $700, you can make a significantly better desktop, and it would be modular meaning upgrade path is cheaper.
I dont entirely understand who the Ally or Legion GO are made for? Are they made for people who actually want a handheld? Or are they made for people who want to say "My handheld is better than yours", because the latter is what it feels like. If I cant even get 1 hour of battery life on cyberpunk, then why do I care if it runs at 10 fps more? If I have to haul battery packs, what is even the point? I do not believe the removeable controllers will withstand drops very much, a solid body would make for more longevity. In addition, I don't expect these products will recieve years of software support, I suspect they'll be abandoned when the next revision comes to market. If I can stream my desktop to my steamdeck, I can't help but feel like my Asus Ally and Legion GO are redundant.
This sounds like an EXTREMLEY biased take. I obviously own both the SD and the GO and I easily can say the GO is the better handheld in terms of performance/power. The battery life is bad, but the SD isn't much better. The OLED SD is said to have better battery life if you lower the TDP (aka lowering the performance on a device that already has weak performance) which you can so on the legion GO as well to save battery.
The OLED SD will have a better display than the current SD but it still is only 800p and 90hz while the Legion GO has a 1440p display at 140hz. MUCH crisper image.
If you're playing AAA games on the go? Legion will win EVERY time.
If all you play is old school emulated titles and small indie games on steam? Go with the SD.
Lastly, yes the GO is heavier than the SD but honestly not by much. Side by side it's noticeable but after 15 min with either device they start to feel heavy in the hand.
As for the corners hurting your hand, I haven't had that issue with mine. But of course that's a user to user difference.
Also the GO got a big update yesterday that fixed every software issue I had with it in this video :)
