When Xiao and the other Yaksha were screaming made me want to tear up. But each time they were saying Bosacious name made me more sad of how they were once happy people and a close family.

My guy lost his sanity and even forgot his name but still remember the other Yakshas names and their memories together. The fact that he made the biggest sacrifice for his family and for Liyue truly earned his title as Yaksha and "Big Brother"

It's even more sad because he says this while still being deep in the chaotic space of the chasm and hallucinates by seeing the shadows on the walls, when in reality there is no one there. The shadows only stirred his memory to remember but it was only him and Boyang there.

Inazuma archon quest (to unlock Itto's story quest and Raiden's 1st story quest)
You have to finish Raiden's second story quest but you have to do the 1st to unlock it ofc

If you read the lore of his mask for Xiao's artifact set (Vermillion hereafter), it mentions the dying of the sound of drums in the distance, signifying the end of a hero. The end of this OST features a drum crescendo and abruptly ends at the very end. This consistency and attention to detail continues to make Genshin such a beautiful and captivating game♡

The Yakshas were really a family... it makes their deaths all the more tragic, but the fact that they cared and looked out for each other is so moving. I love this quest to pieces.

The fact that Bouyang called Bosacius "brother" is enough to tear me up, it's probably Bosacius' first time being called "brother" by a human, people would usually call deitys like him by titles or just "Almighty Yaksha"

In chinese culture we call (close friends/brother in arms) brothers. If the friendship last long they even celebrated a ceremony to make them offical brothers stronger than being blood related.

@@MREAGLE-6666 No he said his fellow Yaksha's talked about living mortal lives (like Zhongli, Madam Ping, and Yanfei's father) after fulfilling their duties, however their karmic debt and harsh nature of the Archon War itself prevented this.
The fact that yakshas considered them as close as siblings, so when xiao heard zhongli died, it must’ve been like he lost his last family member after the death of all of siblings
At the end he talks to him though so he knows he's still alive and I think he can sense his presence because Zhongli never showed himself when he saved Xiao but Xiao knew it was him

The adepti also probably already knew that rex lapis didn't die... When a god dies, a calamity appears along with the death of a god and a god as powerful as Zhongli would surely turn liyue into a living hell yet liyue is just fine and not even a scratch is there.

Finally I'm not alone. After watching the cutscene a couple of times and reaction videos along with it, it happens to me that it's Boyang's destiny hits the feeling most. He has the every aspect of a good human being can have. He was decisive to send Rongzhao back to ground, leaving himself down there. He was scared that Bosacius might regret and break the seal at the end and ruin all of their efforts and sacrifice. He was jealous that only Rongzhao gets to go back to the family. He was selfish that part of him doesn't want Bosacius to die before him coz he doesn't want to be all by himself in the darkest place. His sacrifice might not be as ultimate as Bosacius', but it's million's ordinary people's sacrifice like his make everything possible.

In the original translation it is more epic, it's a pity that language barrier exists. Here's how he said his name in chinese: "我叫*浮舍*, 意为, *浮*生一刹, 万般皆*舍*" and can be translated to "My name is 浮舍 (Fushe/Bosacious) and the meaning is: life is only a blink, (for the better) I can sacrifice everything". Notice that his name forms the first and last word of the meaning. I can give you a more detailed explanation if you wanted, but it will also include some basics of chinese language too :)

Chinese poem's grammar is nothing alike modern Chinese, so you can leave that behind and focus on what each word means individually, then what would they mean if they're together in a sentence (some have different meaning based on the context).
Lets split his last words into 3 parts "(1)我叫浮舍, 意为, (2)浮生一刹, (3)万般皆舍"
The first part is very straightforward, which just "My name is Bosacious and it means..."
His name alone doesnt really make any sense yet, in the most basic context:
浮: floating/temporary/superficial
舍: house/place
The second part is actually made up of 2 words, so we dont need to see the individual meaning. Here in means:
浮生: fleeting/temporary life
一刹: a flash/moment
roughly it translates to "Life is only temporary"
The third part can be separated into 3 words. In this context it means:
万般: ten-thousand (万) kinds (般), or could be roughly translated to "every thing"
皆: similar to 都 that means "everything" in the sense of 'the whole subject'
舍(弃): its actually a abbreviation, originally it meant "to gave up"
This part alone means "everything can be given up"
Now lastly, given the context that he is a Yaksha that fights for the greater good, we can fill in the missing context to create the meaning: "Life is only temporary, (for the grater good) everything can be given up"

Although the translation is descent, the original Chinese script is much more poetic and touching.... and you did a great job explaining it. Just personally I think it should be "Everything can be sacrificed(for the better)" as there is no "I" in there... the wording related to some Buddhism concept.
I love how in 3:37 every yaksha's image gets shattered except for xiao referencing he is the only remaining yaksha

@@kuramazov I’m not exactly sure about what you’re talking about, but if you meant “the nameless yaksha”, it would indeed be Bosacius, because the nameless yaksha held down the front line and later it was confirmed that Bosacius was the one who did it. He was too insane I guess, to call out his name, so they referred to him as the nameless yaksha.
Also notice how the edges of Xiao’s shard is broken off, maybe symbolizing how he was beginning to lose himself as well before traveler came along.

Boyang has one of the most horrifying deaths in the game so far. Stuck in a deep underground chasm sounds scary enough but then your only partner perishes and u r just LEFT ALL ALONE in that dark scary underground with dark magic trying to make you go insane?

That signified not just that he was worried for the Yaksha but also because he was so scared that he will be left all alone down there. 🥺

In that sense, I think Katarina (the Fatui electro cicin mage) kinda died the same way, losing her brother, getting stuck in a deep dark hopeless place, and (probably) got killed too by a Khanriea knight.
Even if karma made Bosacious insane, he was able to remember who his family was, and who he was at the very end. When he said his name in the end, as he always used to do before… Archons, this story quest was just so powerful

The Yaksha's past is probably the most saddening one I've seen other than Zhongli's. I mean, imagine seeing your century old families going crazy and even killing each other.
I'm not saying the other character's backstory ain't sad, but I mean, as someone with a loving family, I can't imagine the pain you would feel from your own family members turning on each other like what the Hydro and Geo yaksha did, or even seeing a family become crazy due to their own duties.

in that same bane I find Scaramouche’s past as sad - to come home to your family members dead must’ve been awful. Like the yakshas those are the stories that make me the saddest also.

Genshin's lore is full of sad stuff but Liyue's lore just has a very special place in my heart.
Genshin's more unpopular sad lores are found in world quests though. Like Ruu's story, etc.

A large part of it is Celestia's fault tbh. If not for them there wouldn't be so many monsters, the Archon War etc, which makes it necessary for people like the Yaksha to suffer in the line of duty.
I hope we get to kick their asses eventually.

In Chinese, it is called 回光返照（Terminal lucidity）, Bosacious remembered his family before dying, which made me cry.

I think the reason Xiao sticks to me as his character is because you want to _actually_ help him. Some of us understand loss, losing people, and losing yourself. And I personally see just a bit of myself in him. Xiao pushes people away because he wants to be a hero, he wants to make sure others never get hurt, to save everyone, and part of that is pushing people away so he can’t hurt them and they don’t come into harm’s way. Xiao sacrifices himself to save other people, pushing himself time and time again just to make sure everyone else can live. He values people over himself because his duty of protecting others is all he knows. He said so himself, he sees himself as a slaughterer, nothing more, because he doesn’t think his life is worth the life of others. His duty and desire is to make sure others are okay, alive, and happy, where they can live in a world of peace that he never got to experience. He wants to give others what he can never have. That’s what makes him such a good character, because you understand what he’s sacrificed to see others happy. And, as the traveller, you want nothing more than to give him what he’s lost. To return the favor in a way you know? Because Xiao, at least to the traveller, is their friend. If anything, I think we can all agree we want him to finally find peace and happiness. And after this story quest I think xiao is finally coming to peace with the past and finally finding his own peace. I hope he gets it someday

It pains me how Xiao decided to seclude himself. He knows fully well the effect of Karma because he experience and see it for himself. Some might find his action as him disliking humans but out of all, Xiao loves the humans the most and doesn't want any harm to come on their way because of him.
Yes and sometimes sacrificing yourself for the sake of someone you love is actually not one of the best options. This is what this story quest is all about in my opinion

Best archon quest tbh, I love how they finally gave us more Yaksha lore after what felt like maybe a year. I’m interested more in the story line now, I love how they made the detail of them going in rage and madness, I really like everything about this archon quest. I’m hoping that in the future the game will be lots more cooler, I can’t imagine Sumeru now.

@@KKara268 both. It's an interlude archon quest (just like the jade chamber) and the event is just about the fighting domains to collect crystals and buy the bow's refinement + other items
I want more yaksha story but I also don't... especially where the geo and hydro yakshas are concerned, because seeing them turning on each other is just devastating knowing how much of a family they were. Imagine the horror of Xiao and Bosacius seeing two of their family turning on each other and slaughtering each other.
I was kinda losing love for genshin and then this archon quest dropped and now has me satisfied until atleast 3.0
the way xiao and zhongli talked about them, i thought they all had a much colder relationship. like co workers, or special ops team. but they were like siblings…which is infinitely more heart wrenching
Earth yaksha being the wise and stern oldest brother
Electro yaksha being the brute and childish middle brother
Fire and Water yaksha being the cheerleader and cute sisters that laugh at every single family events
And Wind Yaksha being the youngest brother that's way too shy and silent and keep getting picked on by the siblings.

I really feel for Boyang here. He's just a human like any of us. He doesn't have the stunning strength or longevity of the Yaksha. He only has his distinctly human courage. A small mote of strength compared the heroes in stories... But enough to leave his family behind to do what needs to be done.
in the end... he is scared. Like anyone would be in that scenario.
And unlike the adepti, and the yaksha whose storied will be told for all time... In only a few years, no one will remember the man who was Boyang.
The tragedy that is the human condition doesn't prevent people from being good. That is really inspiring, in a way.

Well, even if he did die it would be really sad, but at the same time it would be ok. He would of been with his brothers and sisters again; a much better place then where he is now (since his karma is still trying to eat away at him). However, Zhongli decided that his time wasn't up yet and we thank him for Xiao being alive today. :>

What’s really sad was that the Yaksha’s finally went insane and killed each other. The scariest part is when they regain that tiny bit of consciousness… realizing what they did… maybe that’s what truly pushed them past the brink of madness. Former friends killing each other, when all they did was want to return to the old times. The price for protecting, is losing everything they have. It really makes you think if it was worth it. I felt really sorry for Xiao. He lost his brothers and was always looking, always having hope for Bosacious, to end up fighting him and seeing him so as well… I don’t know if he’s going to be ok. And remember, these were people who were friends for millennias, friendship that lasted serveral lifetimes more than ours, I can’t even imagine the pain that they go through. Xiao truly has no one left beside him, that is why I believe, even when faced with death, he only has relief and acceptance, many some regret of what ifs of the past. After all, his older brothers and sisters already left, what is it that he leaves too…
The screams of the Yaksha are so heartbreaking. To see how they all acted as friends before going through pain is tearing me upp.

Why is no one talking about the voice actors, both Boyang and Bosacius was so great. And the OST delivers as always. And well i'm not the only one who notices that Menogias didn't just die but was killed off by Bonasus right? 3:04 Is it because of karmic suffering or he turned traiter.
And the screaming part of Indarias (complementing with the music) was phenomenal, plus her sacrifice for Xiao. Man these Yakshas and their sacifices(nessesary), not caring about the feelings of the people they leave behind.

I dont think we will get an act 2 of his story quest since this event/archon quest is mainly about him and the yakshas and i think thats enough for his lore honestly.. hyv gave us a lot for his lore in this version, im just kinda hoping that he will come with us in the next years lantern rite, thats gonna be awesome LOL

Imagine if at their last moment, similar to Bosacius, the other yakshas also remembered who they and fellow yakshas were.
(Also, massive shout out to Boyang, the mortal Milieth who sacrificed himself for the surface, for his loved ones. Life is difficult but his decision to help the Yaksha seal the chasm at the cost of being forever trapped is a decision that's tragic and unthinkable. Mortals can't grasp the reality of eternity so words will never describe just what he was thinking of as the realization of eternal loneliness dawned on him the moment he sealed themselves in the chasm and the moment Bosacius was dying)
Bonanus who lies beside Menogias, body torn by his attack. In the minutes she has left, severely bleeding out, she remembers her family in arms. She remembers Monogias and how she struck him in the heart, his expression showing nothing but disbelief before turning angry and inflicting the final blow upon her.
Menogias who is beside Bonanus, petrified (no pun intended) by the knowledge that he had killed his sister in arms in his lapse of insanity. He doesn't get a chance to apologize for she has long died before his clarity, so he lay, dying, beside her as his heart quite literally breaks.
And Indarias, who crumbled under the weight of wrathful curses, her comrades and mortal deaths (similar to or it might even be Qiqi) over the eons. As the karma finally rips her soul out of her body, she reminisces of the time Xiao woke up pouting about his face, the time Bosacius and Monogias bicker and brawl about the robe as she and Bonanus laugh on, the times she's saved and have been saved by her fellow Adepti and the time she was told of the young Pervases's death.

I don't want to leave the other two yakshas out bc angst is great.
Bosacius (before his death) watched time and time again, as the allies he's led die one after another and closer and closer to his innermost circle. He watches his young comrade, Pervases, lose his life long before it has started. He witnesses his family in arms go mad, helpless as Bonanus and Menogias die together and as Indarias is consumed by the flames of her burdens. He watches Xiao scream and suffer as the yaksha did his best to fulfill his contract. Liyue is at peace, but Bosacius is far from it. He abandons his duties in hopes to finally succumb to the erosion of the curses and burdens. He forgets as time and memories fuse but his warm heart and instinct remain intact to his final breath.
And finally Xiao, while he's not dead (thank GOODNESS), he himself has wished for the end by means of the ultimate sacrifice that will protect the land of his lord the same way he has defended it. He is reserved by nature but the loss of his comrades and the knowledge that his karma brings nothing but harm to the people of Liyue, he's battled much of his wars by himself and almost succumbs to the erosion at some point. He's as cold and professional as other people have correctly guessed but he's also sentimental and desperate to get closure on the only yasksha in arms he had left; like what many say, the have someone go missing is the worst thing anyone can go through because while you may know they're dead, there's always that part of you who hopes they're alive. It's why Xiao stepped out of line to personally ask Morax to seek this closure even when they both know it could be Xiao's last journey.
Hope is a powerful thing that is only empowered when you have support. And for Xiao (and to the many, real survivors in the world), it's the realization that he is not a burden as he slowly opens up to find people that'll make him the happiest and begins to live his life the way he can and not just strictly bound to the rules of his contract; the way his family in arms once dreamed about.

When Bosacius remembered his name I just got chills. I didn't cry but I felt really depressed at the end 😭😭😭😭😭
This event was actually so good, the cut scene got me all the feels especially when they were drawing on xiao as he slept, such a nice glimpse to the once beautiful family

Archons, this cutscene really made me cry...hard. Someone told me that Genshin was all happy and was like "Of course you play genshin, it's very pleasant". They clearly don't know the lore deep enough. It's filled with things such as this.. you can really feel the character's sorrow and pain.. their sadness, grief and madness too. It is absolutely beautiful.

I must say, Mihoyo, they're doing an excellet work, really putting the same energy on the feels like they did with , Honkai Impact 3 , equally traumatizing, ten times more sad.
When Xiao was talking about the yakshas near the end of the quest, you could tell how much of a family they mean to him;
Especially Bosacius because Xiao couldn't move on from not knowing what truly happened to him until the Chasm incident

This interlude chapter just hit me like a truck. I’ve never really cried watching sad endings or stories but this chapter…I could not stop crying. I feel lucky to experience this quest first hand

Remember, all quests except Inazuma Archon Quest are written so good. It's just so inconsistent how high if a quality this interlude is.

Haven’t seen anyone mention this but I like the detail at 3:50 where it transitions from Bosacius’s declaration accompanied by drumbeats to the silence amidst Liyue’s mountaintops. Despite remembering his name, tragically, he is largely forgotten by the people he swore to protect.
Exactly this is a huge part of sacrifice, that's what that scene means. Also we saw this motive in Yaksha stories already, like Pervases. Only recenlty by strange chain of events former crook took care of his shrine.
Now that I read your comment, I feel my heart tighten even more when I recall Xiao telling us travelers, right before this cutscene started, "it's good that one more person will remember him". I already feel bad that everything that happened in the Chasm must remain a secret, because I wished that Bosacius' sacrifice will be known and told by story tellers of Liyue, just like they did for Rex Lapis' story. So thinking that for the last Yaksha, just "one more person" is enough to know Bosacius' heroic last moments, it saddens me. This quest hit deep in the feels

Yaksha are warriors who are always at the forefront of the battlefield, never afraid to face any enemy that comes their way and always prioritize the safety of others even though their lives are at stake. that's what I mean by irreplaceable kindness to continue to protect others.

can't believe its already been over a year since this quest. i don't even play this game anymore, but i remember playing this quest as the parts kept coming out and this finale just left me in tears. really wish we would get to see more of the yakshas, they're all so cute and seemed to have a really strong bond 😞

Seriously though, mihoyo really did an amazing job with this interlude quest. a whole 4+ minute full cutscene with perfect cinematography, storytelling/dialogue, and voice acting (in all 4 languages), and this amazing cutscene as well. they really did something with this update and i'm all here for it.

@@Sseptember yeah... the english dub imo sounds so forced. cn dub is very natural, and jp dub kinda lacking in emotion but still good. haven't watched korean dub yet so I have nothing to say about that. kinda sad cn dub doesn't get as much recognition as jp dub and eng dub, this is just my opinion, but cn dub is much much better in conveying emotions. still, it depends on what dub you prefer.
@@Sseptember yes, someone who gets it!! it's also the case with kiana (hoyoverse other game hi3 if u know her), the everlasting flames animated short. in the cn dub, you can feel the desperation in her voice near the end where she screams while in the jp dub, she just does the generic anime screaming and it doesn't get the feelings across. I guess it all comes down with how anime and other jp entertainment has become so popular that this type of voice acting has become the standard for VAs and other studios.
and I'm not saying that jp dub is bad, I'm just saying the voice acting they do is so reused within jp entertainment especially with the screams. it's like, the same scream from different characters with different situations and emotions then they just give them the "generic screaming anime style".

This quest is soo sad, as well as heart warming. It's painfull to see family getting separated, yet thanks atleast we get to know what actually happened to them! We all felt xiao's feelings, when he said "From this day, Heroes will always look out for each other ". It’s crazy to think about how attached we can get to characters! HoYoVerse, you made me cry for Xiao on this quest and I’m not mad! I’m just glad Xiao is safe and the Traveler just needs to hug him! But, I do truly wish I could give him one as I'm sure we all want to.

Love that scene in the end, where Bosacius says he'd make the ultimate sacrifice, end the music swells, but then stops to silence as the camera pans to aboveground, as if nothing would have happened at all and nobody would know about it, and nothing did happen and nobody knows about it cuz he sacrificed himself to protect the peace that is happening aboveground and am crying, this was one of the best quests ever!
OMG, even at his last moments, he was such a kind warrior. If any yaksha besides Xiao become playable in the future, I'm going to pull for he/she/them for sure. After all, I pulled already for Xiao
After 4 months, i rewatched this and realized that the same mountains above show'n at the end was the same place Xiao cries on everyday calling for his brothers and sisters
idk but I feel like of all characters, liyue's (especially Rex lapis & the rest of the adepti) are the best written ones. their struggle to understand human values as superior beings, their tragic backstories, their profound loyalty and care for each other, their relationships with each other and strong sense of duty makes me love liyue the most out of all the regions we've known so far.
I'm so happy mi/hoyoverse decided to give the adepti a chance to shine all over again. the stories of the gods (& alike) of each region are just... on another level. I hope we'll get more content like this
I'm honestly not surprised that the Chinese representatives are best written and most cared for because it's a Chinese game.
@@freyafrettchen3808 I think they're all pretty well written for all nations with each nation's higher beings having their own struggles. You can tell they put a lot into studying other nations and trying to implement their real-world culture into them. I thought Mondstadt and Inazuma's struggles are pretty accurate to their culture. Although I think we can all agree that Inazuma's storyline could be expanded on a bit more with better details in putting the stories together =.=

Mondstadt's characters are also well written, even the 4 stars, and they have a future story they haven't finished telling their story yet. The only useless characters in history are those of Inazuma, (Kazuha and Scaramouche are the only exception, they are the only ones with future stories) I hope this does not repeat itself in Sumeru and they give us many interesting characters with future history.

much as I love the liyue charecters hu tao is really underwhelming in lore and doesn't interact much as other liyue charecters
You know how serious the moments are when they also show BLOOD in the animated parts, which just scares me to how much the Yakshas suffered before their end.
Liyue has some of the most captivating, heart wrenching, and moving storylines in Teyvat. Personally, I prefer the lore of the Yakshas so much so this was my favorite story. I’ve been skipping a lot of the stories in Genshin recently (sometimes I watch recap videos on Yt) but I sat through this one and enjoyed it so much.
Makes me cry out for good. The way Zhongli saved Xiao feels like when a father save their son at the very last moment. And this dude story is just showing he still remember his "family" even in madness is truly heartbreaking 😭😭
the fact that Xiao's glass didnt shatter is upsetting, making you remember that Xiao and Bosacius were still alive until now, leaving Bosacius as nothing but just an image and officially leaving Xiao as the lone one
Despite all the sad notes in this story, it's nice to see that Bosacius remembered his name, and perhaps even his sanity, at the end of it all.

This story specially the thought of being alone 2 survivors underground knowing the fate that day will die soon gives me chills also the last part almost made me tear up
no story quest in genshin got me nearly as emotional as perilous trail did. when this cinematic played ingame for the first time, i had to take like a 10 minute break because it left me /sobbing/. when he goes "i must have a family too" i felt something in me break, and when he finally remembers all the yaksha and his own name, man, MANNNN, it's been a LONG TIME since a video game made me cry like that. i fully wasn't expecting it to have that sort of impact on me but it did. just rewatching it made me dangerously teary just now too. god. this game has such beautiful story

I was mere crying for daddy when the hole was closing and telling Xiao to wait for his daddy that is coming to him. He is not yet doing big sacrifice yet. He just fulfil the promise and truth behind the chasm only. He should at least threw some "make up" before "show up" in the death list...🤧😅

The part that gets me sobbing is the part they are standing proud alongside each other. That's how Bosacius remembers his family: Proud and Strong Protectors of Liyue.
This is the first story that made me tear up in Genshin...it's so sad to see the tragedy of so many great heroes,they were a family torn apart and the only one left was Xiao

This patch hits hard NGL, the yasha's and adepti has so much good lore. also now I really appreciate zhongli more than ever. he has everything the material might, intelligence and even when he said he's retired, he's still there looking out for liyue from any potential threat best archon IMO.
Agreed also don't forget zhongli's magical capabilities. I always find it ironic how the geo archon has so much telepathic powers. In game combat he doesn't even touch his spear for most of his NA combo. it just floats in air and attacks also in the lastest event he didn't even need to appear in front of xiao to save him he did it from afar without even letting yelan and the others know.
@@mr.baburao1884 I think people buy into the 'broke old man' joke enough that they temporarily forget that even before being the Geo Archon, Zhongli was the Adeptus Prime, the leader of all of Liyue's mythological and legendary beings.
Even before gaining whatever the gnosis, he was unchallenged among Liyue's adepti for over 4000 years. All that mysterious magical stuff the adepti do? He probably knows all of it.
Seeing as he single-handedly defeated Osial, whereas it took the combined power of all the other classical adepti, Ningguang's resources and the Traveler to reseal him from a weakened state, I'd say the other adepti have some ways to go.

@@mr.baburao1884 I find his magical capabilities common since it's because he is a adepti, we know adepti are a race with talking animals and mythological creatures that can make even alternative realities with adepti arts. while morax was the prime adeptus and strongest of them all. He probably mastered all of those, I mean his adeptus form is a floating dragon... So him pulling xiao out of that was barely nothing, even if he doesn't have his gnosis he is still a very strong god since he was a god even before getting a gnosis. even ei find it worthless and gave it to yae miko since she was one of the twin gods even before getting a gnosis.

This quest was absolutely legendary. The feeling of helplessness when trapped, the dread of the sacrifices some beloved characters were ready to do, the amazing story, the beautifully animated scenes. Absolute masterpiece, I am so hyped for what is yet to come!!
