Lord Of The Rings Fans ATTACKED For Quotes - Fans Doing More Damage Than AMAZON?!

  • The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power teaser trailer was not very well received by fans, but the gamer has decided that's not the show's fault, it's the fans. The gamer isn't a stranger to attacking fan bases. But when it's Lord of the Rings and fans of Tolkien to not say they're wrong about the trailer but blame them for the destruction of the source material themselves. This is a new low for the gamer, the backlash over the Rings of Power broke them.

What did you think of The Gamer article? A site that is renowned for giving worse takes than Kotaku, they're always useful for laugh, but this article might have ended with one of the most extreme takes I've seen from them. What are your thoughts let me know below. And as always, thanks for watching :)

I'd not seen it... I think they are using the old trick of deliberately picking out a detail of grammar or similar pernickety details (in this case that it is a paraphrased quote), to try to undermine the actual point of the quote, not to mention the spontaneous and mass outpouring of discontent the numbers of identical posts represents.

If he is giving someone ammunition it is for those who protect The rings of power. They know we won't shut, they can only make us angrier. But they need to convince as many people as they can that we are a wild and stupid bunch of kids that need to be put in their place. You know, oppose numbers with numbers. The quality of people they push to this doesn't matter.

Er, you have a quite "original" approach in regards to accuracy when quoting someone... Of course it matters what that person truly said, otherwise it wouldn't be a quote! So yes, I think that the article makes a valid point about this made up Tolkien "quote". How can you rant about the showrunners deviation from the precise cannon and lore and then try to reinforce your point with a false quote?!?
And the funny thing is that there are actual Tolkien quotes that transport the same message and which could people use instead.
But other than that aspect I don't agree with article at all and will stick to being a Tolkien purist - whether it comes to changes to his lore or wrong quotes.

    • @rockheimr

@@inoel75 It's a paraphrased quote - probably caused by being run through translation software between multiple languages. The meaning however remains true to Tolkien's original intent, on the more accurately worded original quote... or do you disagree?
Given that, I don't see it's important to quibble when it is showing the makers of this abomination of a show the weight of feeling rising against what they are doing.

Oh, I absolutely agree that this false quote reflects what Tolkien believed, no doubt on that! But that doesn't change my opinion about giving false quotes. Just don't put "J.R.R. Tolkien" below it, as if it was an actual quote, and I'm fine with it. Or give an actual quote of what he wrote about that topic. But don't put someone elses words into his mouth. I'm pretty passionate about Tolkien and his work, that just rubs me the wrong way. I can't help it, I'm just very nerdy in that aspect 😉

Melkor and then Sauron did not create anything pure (with life) on their own, they just altered and corrupt other creatures by different means. that is just a fact you can not argue with. Tolkien didn't need to say it directly. he designed his Legendarium on it, for us to understand it. to deny that, is to deny one of the basic and straight forward massages that Tolkien wrote his entire masterpiece to pass on. to try and force this denial as a fact to others, is by itself a form of alteration and corruption of something good and pure.

It's time for some other outlet to take up the cudgel and create a true adaptation of something the book fans can watch and appreciate. Eru Ilúvatar was the only one that could create with the creation song "Ainulindalë" Evil in sense then being Melkor the most powerful of the Valar wanted to create, but he could only distort the Ainulindalë song. That quote in sense I think derives from the creation of the Arda world.

From what I understand, that quote is actually a paraphrase of what the hobbits said in the book when talking about the nature of the orcs.. And the original quote was actually even more applicable to the situation. So no, it's not JUST from TVtropes, it's directly pulled from Tolkien's writings.

    • @disparutoo
      @disparutoo  Před 2 lety +5

I had assumed it was a paraphrase, most quotes are not word for word. Over time they get adapted into something easier to say or remember, it often flows better when repeated across thousands of peoples mouths and minds.
I didn't look into it to confirm because for me, even if they were right and you give them the most good faith assumption of them being honest about it. It's STILL an absolutely absurd article with the most extreme over the top conclusion they could ever have come to.

Those nut jobs made a basic mistake at the beginning. They are saying that Tolkien did not make that direct quote in the works that he wrote, which may be true. But Tolkien also said things that are not in the books. He wrote letters to people and did interviews on radio and TV. To state that he never said it in a book is not the same as saying that he never said it at all.

An author doesn't need to openly say a phrase when they write it in their books. Example Robert Heinlein never said "An armed society is a polite society." He wrote that in Starship Troopers, so he said it by indirect quote.
