    UPDATE: I was incorrect when talking about slow motion on the a6300. Here is how you can activate in camera conforming. Info from user MobFactory: Andrea.
    "You need to switch it one of the HFR Mode (either P S A M etc) in the quick menu (Fn button while in video mode). Then you can just go into the menu as usual and select your record setting as usual (24p 100m, 24p 60m,etc.). From my testing the compression seems to be a bit better when you do it this way but it does mean you loose audio."
    Thanks Andrea!

    You never mention dynamic range which is arguably the most important quality when it comes to image quality. Its not even close. a6300 is the clear winner

    • @hexagonixon

      Jayrim - can you share a video or anything that proves that (the dynamic range difference)? It would be very helpful. Thanks!

    • @JodyBruchon
      @JodyBruchon Před 6 lety +3

      Dynamic range IS NOT the most important thing when it comes to video quality. There are a lot of factors involved. Dynamic range is helpful but even the cheapest camcorder built new today has more than enough dynamic range to make a decent-looking movie.

    • @noahcurrie9653
      @noahcurrie9653 Před 6 lety +8

      Dynamic range is very important, and Panasonic’s “V-log” does not compare to Sony’s “s-log2” or “s-log3”
      facts

      I'm shooting mostly indoor, makeup tutorial videos and vlogs. I'm hoping I made the right choice with the a6300, although the GH4 was highly recommended. It's just so much more $$$$ than I was ever expecting to spend. That doesn't include the very possible need for a large ring light, 2 soft boxes and who knows what else?! **sigh**

    this was so helpful! Went for the GH4 a quarter ago and am very happy. low-light and auto focus are a bit frustrating though. AF is kind of solvable by just focussing and then switching to manual (to lock). For vlogging the GH4 is a good workhorse, just not for all moments, especially the unplanned ones.

    Hey Caleb I want to start of by saying I love your channel. I was recently thinking of making the switch from MFT (Panasonic G7) to the Sony a6300. I love the video quality on the g7 but now I've been doing photography more than video and I've been using my G7 for photos. I know for photography the a6300 is way better especially with low light and its fast auto focus. Do you think this change will be better for the best of both worlds? Or would there be any MFT recommendations for photo and video, since I already invested in glass and would have to sell it to make the switch? Maybe wait for the GH5 that is soon to come out? Thanks ahead for the response if you read this.

    Great review - a very thorough comparison! I have the GH4 which I love for video, but miss the larger sensor for photos, so I am somewhat torn between these two cameras! Two other things to throw into the mix; if people are interested in filming in log format, I think the a6300's s-log starts at ISO 800, whereas the GH4's v-log l starts at ISO 200 [although it is an upgrade and you have to pay for it]. Also, a Speed Booster with the GH4 is great, although sometimes [ie outdoors in bright light] it almost lets in too much light and you need some sort of ND filter if you want to film at those wider apertures... :)

    Cheers for this. I bought an a6300 on Friday, just before you posted this. I'm very happy with it so far but have only had a little of testing. Battery life I can see being an issue, but I'll work it out. I mainly got it, though, for the 18-105 F4 power zoom lens, which is absolutely awesome. To match that on the Gh4 I'd need multiple lenses and wouldn't get the constant aperture... Looking forward to 4K filming with it, and seeing how mine copes with overheating. I'll be picking up a cage anyway so not too much of an issue, it's primarily a B camera so should be running for prolonged times anyway... :)

    I've a question about the 6300 & overheating.
    I like the sensor size, the low light, the focus, but I'm worried about it not working.
    I live in Vietnam, and it's incredibly hot and humid here. I'm looking to use the camera for narrative film making, not talking heads, so I imagine each time it'll only be shooting a few minutes rather than non stop.
    Is the ambient temperature going to affect it, or is the overheating more from long shooting times?

    Thanks for the review. I have the A7s which is the big brother of the a6300. It has some of the features that you found lacking in the a6300, and the full frame 35mm sensor paired with vintage prime lenses is an affordable way to get astonishing shots. But where you go Panasonic or Sony it's Canon that is being left in the dust with their refusal to add features that have become standard for other manufacturers.

    So if i want to shoot like Music Video and stuff which is stabilized with a steadycam or gimbal and event videos etc, would u recommend the a6300 or gh4?

    Which one will work better with stabilizers? The a6300 seems really lightweight.

    Advice please! I do marketing for a local Transit Authority. We make videos involving a mix of interviews and run and gun B-Roll that include things like the inside of buses (which can get dark) as well as filming moving buses and following people on bikes, cars, etc. In most applications i would have access to a shoulder rig with all the needed bells and whistles for sound, power, external monitor, follow focus, etc. Until this video i was thinking of going GH4 + native Olympus 12-40 f/2.8, but now I'm hesitant. What are your thoughts. The low light and auto focus kind of scared me on the GH4 from what you were saying, but I need to be able to capture moving vehicles. I would even consider the New A6500 if that changes the opinion. Any advice ASAP would be awesome!

    Thanks for upload - very good comparison. I can only hope that Sony somewhere is watching your videos! I would prefer a slightly larger version of the 6300, but better ergonomics, touch-screen, headphone monitor, XLR unit etc. Maybe 6300 Mark 2?

    Nice comparison.) I notice when use my 6300 at 4k, at 1/50 shutter speed rolling shutter not so noticeable.

    Two questions: how did you light this video. And which camera did you use to record this video. Thanks in advance!

    Yo dude thanks for the video, I finally have the money to put out for a decent camera, right now Ive ruled out the Sony A6300. However, now Im comparing the Canon EOS 70d to the GH4 because there are a lot of lense options, but the GH4 has way better quality for video and would be still relevant in the future. Let me know what you think of the 70D for video production?

    great comparison you forgot external recording differences, is it 10 bit on gh4 and only 8 bit on a6300 ?
