Can we please have a moment of appreciation for Don Hales, the talented actor whose performance as "Naked Man on Roof" really made this movie
+Cal TotheT The unsung hero to be sure!
Laughed at that part. "Ohhhh, a naked old man. Scarrrry"
+Kyle Sisco More like the unHUNG hero HEYOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sorry
+POOP BALLS Bush? I thought it was a leaf.
+ping oh' It looked like a black G-string to me.
It Follows is the best John Carpenter filmed not directed by John Carpenter (and probably my favorite horror film of the last decade). The soundtrack is incredible, the tension builds throughout the film & the horror is palpable. I personally like that the story is purposefully vague (why is it following, what is it, etc). It increases the sense of mystery and suspense. For those saying the kids "act stupid"...have you ever watched a Carpenter film? The original Halloween? Suspend your disbelief and just enjoy the film!
IMO It Follows > Babadook
+OmarIsuf Omar it s really you? Do you like horror movies?
+OmarIsuf my god!! you have a bad taste son.
+OmarIsuf The soundtrack literally was the worst thing for me. It played the same weird pitched music and it legit gave me a headache about halfway through
+OmarIsuf Omar likes to watch James and Mike? What a diverse individual lol
Babadook is a excelent Horror movie!! Ten Thousand Better than It Follows.
SPOILER. An interesting point is that in the end scene while they're walking down the street theres a character thats walking in the background and gradually getting closer to the two characters. It cuts before the person gets close enough but its an interesting thing to think about.
This movie was a perfect length. The scene where she is going to the boat shows that she has come to the point of desperation to pass it on to another person. I feel that this is one of the best horror movies in a long time. Some of the positives that weren't mentioned that I loved include the beautiful cinematography and musical score, which added so much not only to the atmosphere and tension, but also to make it feel like an 80's film. The movie also does a beautiful job foreshadowing things to come with its usage of white and red colors. It's one of those rare movies that I notice new things everytime I watch it, and because of that the movie gets better everytime I see it. There are a lot of theories about the content in this film that will be talked about for a long time, it is worthy of the high praise that it receives.
You wanna see something scary watch Kazaam.
Boom bam
+Pontius888 Shaq's acting.
+Pontius888 troll upvotes.
Don't watch alone. I did it. I regret it.
+culwin You mad man, you will doom us all!
Thought this movie was great. The curse was kinda weird and it wasn't scary. But it NAILED being creepy and nailed paranoia
+senkrad5 yeah for me being followed by some stranger is like one of my biggest fear so this movie was definetly terrifying for me
That's what a true horror movie should do. Instill that feeling of dread. Piece of shit movies like paranormal activity have completely ruined what people think is horror. Jump scares should never be the focus of a movie trying to do horror.
+senkrad5 True Horror in other words, you want the other crap go watch every other jump scare horror movie that comes out.
@@Jargas101 When I watch anything from the Paranormal Activity series, I noticed it's the quieter moments that are scarier, there are a few of the jump scares in there that work, but I generally like the quiet moments in those movies. For Example: The Marked Ones when they're trying to cleanse the main character, but he gets away and later he's smiling and the grandma is at the bottom of the stairs.
I never even knew there was hype for this movie, I just watched it at friends house because he had it on. I really really enjoyed it, but there were a handful of things I didn't like. For example the ending where the girl with the glasses reads that poem that drills the theme of "death is inevitable and you can't run from it forever" into your head.
Too dark for you, little boy?
@@austins.2495 No one likes hanging around depressing edgy people like that anymore.
Same, I didn't even know it was a horror. Was very pleasantly surprised by it
The scary part about this movie is about how helpless this girl is in this situation. She can't stay anywhere or continue her life because this thing is eventually going to catch up to her. She looks insane running from this invisible monster, she can't tell anyone about it really and even if she did no one would be able to help her. Even if she passes it on it will eventually find its way back to her. Nothing can kill this thing or even stop it.
And before we nitpick all the super villain tier ways of stopping it like making a giant metal box and trapping it in it, think about the fact that this is a high school girl in the middle of bum fuck nowhere. She can't just get on a plane and fly across the ocean. Where is she going to go? She's essentially fucked.
That's what's scary or at least unsettling about the movie.
+MrZurata But she already got fucked hehe
+MrZurata But she's not helpless, they just made her character sort of "give up" in the end, but really now that they know they can incapacitate it for even seconds, why not just alert either the government or any kind of autorithies so they can trap it (and probably do experiments on it)?
They can EASILY prove that it's real by throwing paint at it so everyone sees it, and it's barely stronger than another human being, so I'm sure you could trap it in some way.
I liked the movie but the hype made me expect more.
I thought the soundtrack was the highlight.
+Intimidation same music composer that did music for the game Fez
+Intimidation Loveeeeeeeeed the soundtrack!
The soundtrack was fantastic.
+Intimidation it's by "disasterpeace"
+Mathis Gries I think it had a great trailer, can't remember
"The monster. The terror. The The."
You guys should watch tucker and dale versus evil.
Horror comedy is good only if it hits the mark and that movie does not.
@@ty22guy the scene where he was cutting a tree and hit a bee's nest was enough for me to recommend the movie.
@@ty22guy Comedy is subjective, some people have different types of humor. You can't just say that it objectively misses the mark.
It's definitely in the upper echelon of horror-comedy. It's no Shaun Of The Dead, but not bad at all.
"The power of the vampire is that those who don't believe in him, yeah, mhm." - Van Helsing
😂
I would have called it an STDemon.
If it cant jump between people or anything, cant you just fly across the ocean? Pretty sure a ton of stuff will get in the way if you try to walk straight through the ocean
+MaMastoast It just walks on the sea floor..
+MaMastoast It can infact get rid of objects, so it would just take an extremely long time for it to find you.
Emil Vang Except the seafloor isnt just flat. It will walk into an impassable area eventually
MaMastoast Aside of the question if we should actually discuss this topic, I think there would always be some way to walk all the way on ocean floor. I think the movie also made it sound as if it ALWAYS walks in a straight line TOWARDS the victim. But infact, if you've watched the movie, there are some scenes where it is clearly established that if it can't reach the victim that way, it seeks a different one.
Brossel I havent seen the movie, I'm just going off of the informatino given ^^. In the movie, is it made clear if the thing has some kind of thought... like, would it be smart enough to walk onto a ferry or a plane?
That's one thing James and Mike didn't address which is a really strong point.....the movie did a great job of taking all the Practical thoughts the audience would have on how to get rid of this entity and actually had the characters do it.
*Passing it off to a prostitute... check
*Passing it off to a friend who knows about it...check
*Passing it off to a handful of strangers in hopes they can keep it away...check
*Confronting it head on...check
*Driving a long distance (practically speaking) ...done
Most movies would just go through one or two scenarios and then cut to credits, that along with the last shot of the movie leaves a ton of doors open to what works and what doesn't with this thing.
If that thing was stalking me, I'd just go somewhere where prostitutes hang out and pass it off to one of them.
+Morgil had the same exact thought
Have you watched the movie yet?
you guys are missing the point that without telling them. it will eventually kill them and get sent to you. yeah you buy time but you could never truly feel off the hook
senkrad5 well sort of the key is to do it in another country and to give it to a prostitute who in turn will give it people who frequently use prostitutes. Since IT can only walk it would take forever to reach its target thus making it impossible to ever really kill anyone
***** even astronauts have to come down. Perhaps someone who goes in a coma.
I have a theory that it only ever moves when you are awake.
That makes the most sense as it only ever reaches her when she is awake and when she crashes the car it didn't seem to follow her.
BTW as for the last point, the movie IS surreal! If you check the set design of houses in this film it really doesn't make sense, it's a weird mix of 2010s and 80s that would not exist in a real world. That adds to the somewhat out-of-this-world tone of the film and makes the unrealistic aspects of the film work properly.
"The The" are a British rock band.
I would totally watch "The The"
The unique tone of this movie will make it appreciated decades from now. It has its own flavor and that's what's missing in a lot of media lately.
Was that Jame's Wife saying "It's Cineamassacre's monster madness?"
You guys missed what the 'monster' actually represented. It was a metaphor for the inevitability of death. No matter how far you run, it *will* catch up to you. You might see it coming, or it might catch you off guard. You don't know what form it will take at any given time. You *can* slow it down, but you *can't* kill it. And late in the movie it was shown that the female lead was traumatized at the death of her father, and her father was the form that the 'monster' took in the last scene. That was the point where she finally realized what "it" actually was, and that was also the point where she accepted that it *was* going to end her. That's when she lost her overt fear of it, and she decided to finally take the plunge and go into a relationship with the one guy she ended up being with in the end, joining together with him to be on watch together, protecting one another.
+jack squatt
Heard that, and also that it's a metaphor for serious STD's and getting children.
To me, it sounded massively uninteresting regardless.
+jack squatt Yeah it's a metaphor for HIV, not death.
The director himself literally said it himself that it's a metaphor for STDs.
*****
Well, thanks for not being a condescending douche bag who talks down to me. I appreciate that.
James Bartolomeo
Well, if the creators actually said that, then I guess I was reading too much into it. But if that is the case then what was the whole bit about that poem at the end? You know the one. The poem the sister (or friend or whatever) recites with seemingly no meaning to it in the context of the story?
That whole poem was about the inevitability and permanence of death. You mean to tell me they just tossed that in there for *no* reason at all? Or were the writer and director on two different pages, not understanding what the other was talking about?
Fucking knew you guys would do this, so happy, thought it was original as fuck.
+Niko Mokalis That's the point of it though, its similar to if you don't get the meaning and purpose behing The Cabin In the Woods, if you don't understand the metaphors behind it and how its playing on the classic horror movie tropes the movie will go completely over your head.
+Niko Mokalis So what you didn't find it original. (horror) Movies don't need to be original in order to be engaging.
James & Mike, you guys should check out 'Resolution (2012)' for a nice take on the whole hype/expectation thing. Go see 'You're Next (2011)' for a movie that turns into another movie, like you mentioned in your 'The Descent' video. Both great films imo.
I also thought the guys on the boat part was pretty well explained: she was desperate enough to try something below her standards, then those guys get killed off (was clear to me somehow, wasn't there smth in the paper about all the people on that boat dying shortly after she was with them?), so the IT is back onto her. It seemed to showcase how difficult it would be to get rid of IT, even lending some credibility to the actions of the guy tying her up in the beginning: this is wat IT makes you resort to.
"everyone was talking about it"
I never heard of it before lol
+brickman409 it sucks trust me.
You can almost taste the salt
No it deff sux
Everyone as in everyone who pays attention to movies seriously and goes to film fests and such. It had no mainstream attention.
Thanatos388 It's just a low budget, sad acting, over all poorly made film. I mean seriously watch it again... I will never touch this movie EVER again.
This movie is awesome, I think you guys forgot to mention the atmosphere of this movie, the melancholic feel, the soundtrack made by the guy who made the ost from FEZ, the feeling is AMAZING, the most melancholic and eerie movie I've ever seem. Truly amazing movie despite some flaws with the story, and some cliche scenes by the middle to the end of the movie. But still an amazing experience!
I thought the ghost impersonated the people it killed beforehand...
i see
it's a soul eater.
+SZakiabba Sometimes, but not necessarily. It impersonates their nerdy friend at the beach while she's still in the water, it impersonates the neighbor directly BEFORE it kills him, and it impersonates the neighborhood kid who's always peeping on Jay also at the beach. But is also impersonates the girl who's killed in the very beginning and Jay and Kelly's father who died when they were young so it seems like it will impersonate people they know at times but not necessarily always a former victim.
true
I thought it takes the form of the people, who just died around recently, thats why you see it in a hospital pyjama, or how its called. That makes it even scarier, when you think about casual deaths, which is happens unseen all the time around you.
Thanks for reviewing this film. I was curious to hear what you guys thought of it.
Loved the movie... such a cool and original idea.
I think people need to stop giving a fuck about hype. Different forms of art appeal to different people, so other people's opinion of a film shouldn't effect how you feel going into a movie. That's stupid and completely your own fault lol.
The scene of them playing the game of choosing who they want to trade places with is integral to introducing the major themes. Which would be the stress of teen aged kids growing up and the discovery of their sexuality. The yearning to be young again and be able to do things over (shown by them reminiscing of the happy moments of their childhood while in great despair).
Also the pool scene is really very simple. They're naive young teenagers who know waiting around will get them killed so they try to do anything they can in hopes of ending it. They shoot it once on the beach and the bullet only grazes the monster but it stuns the monster as well. So who knows if they're plan could work? It was worth a try. Plus seeing the Blue pool completely turn Red ties into the extremely heavy color symbolism that was worked into the film. As well as the symbolism involved with pools representing Jay's innocence and serenity. It was the ultimate showing of her losing the last bit of that.
+RATM101101 I agree it was a plan. if youre going to die by supernatural forces you will do anything to survie.i would do a gangbang i would fuck around just to survive one more day. Moral doesnt matter anymore when "something" is trying to kill you. It was a good horror movie
+RATM101101 also recall her going to the guys on the boat...next shot she's arriving home crying...what happened? i presume she got DENIED! LOL
lots of tropes are bombasted away by stylistic choices here. also the ending was awesome i thought, and with the blood symbolism, i thought that was nicely done; providing a nice symbolic touch to the whole love story paradigm (sex is bad mmmkay) and also a kind metaphor i'd say for the "it" never stopping in it's bleeding (ha!) and being unable to be killed. muahahaha
+CynicalBastard I think the boat scene was handled really well because it proves the point that it really doesn't matter if she passed it to those guys or not. They will eventually die and she still can't rest easier by passing it on because she still has to be at full alert just in case. It always makes it's way back no matter what.
I thought it was good until the part they confront the ghost at the public swimming pool, at that point I thought the movie lost everything. The main problem I have with horror movies when they show too much of the killer, ghost, demon etc and the swimming pool part did that for me, ruined the movie.
It didn't ruin it for me. But it definitely was unexplained what the purpose of that scene was and it was just out of place compared to the rest of the movies tone.
+pizzicatoiv exactly, it was good until that point, then it became really bad and illogical
+II DIRECTx II I think with the pool they went for the "If it bleeds we can kill it" angle
+khan3550 But instead of actually proceeding with their plan to electrocute the guy they just decided to leave.
+WREQUIEM Sure am
I watched it for Disasterpeace and was not disappointed.
There were a few jump scares that made me jump, which is rare. They happened when there was no music, or there was just silence, so I wasn't expecting anything. Jump scares are kind of cheap, and don't usually work on me.
There was a point where it was quiet and was almost overwhelmed with anxiety because I didn't know what would happen or when, but then the music started and I calmed down because I knew something was coming soon. It's a weird thing.
The sub-plot sound like a psa for STI's
This movie, like the Babadook, can't be analyzed at face value. They are great horror films for sure, but more than anything, they're metaphors. This film is a metaphor for teenagers that are facing adulthood. Having to deal with the fact that sometimes sex isn't this magical thing that binds you with a person forever. The childhood friend that now sees the girl as more but pains to see that she party's and sleeps around yet won't give him the time of day.
It's about facing the fact that sleeping with the wrong person can have consequences that can "follow" you for the rest of your life. That discovery of being alone and having to survive independence (which is why adults were barely shown in this film and when they were, they were strategically placed in the blurred background). Of wanting to be with the popular person but discovering they aren't everything you thought they'd be. Finding love in an old friendship. This movie is about growing up and the terrifying reality of it.
STD: Terminator Edition.
Hey guys have you seen FEAST (2005)??? It's one of the best monster movie from recent years.
oh and what about rubber the killer tire haha😂😂😂
+Remain Banksy I remember watching that. Don't actually remember it but I remember liking it. It was hilarious.
That movie was amazing
+Remain Banksy god damn I forgot to watch it, wanted to gather with friends on this one.
+Remain Banksy Thank you for reminding me about that movie. It was too funny.
You guys should check out "Unfriended", which also came out this year, around the same time as "It Follows".
And it was dreadful.
This movie really needs a sequel
IT FOLLOWS and BABADOOK are my two tense top picks from yesteryear. I think the characters missed some of the gun shots, and didn't hit the head. Also, the soundtrack for it is pretty cool, by Disasterpeace, who did the FEZ indie game soundtrack. I'll have to check that The Taking of Deborah Logan one. Might I also suggest A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night.
and about the killer creeping up closer and closer towards the viewer or victim, you'll find that technique in the Ju-on/The Grudge series (both original and American versions)
Feels like Mike is just hating on this movie beacuse it was overhyped for him. I saw it without any expectations and thought it was the best horror film I've seen since The Conjuring. The idea is silly on paper but executed really well on film, the movie plays tension of really well and it has a kick-ass John Carpenter inspired soundtrack. It was deifinitely better than The Babadook which was the other horror film people were talking about this year. It follows is definitely worth a watch.
there is a second scene with the boy driving by in front of prostitutes, we also dont know if he passed it on to them. This movie is so awesome because its very vague and cryptic about IT itself and the way things seem to turn out.
The pool scene in the movie pissed me off, completely ruined the "It follows" monster seems like they didn't have any idea's of how they could end the movie.
+VeggeMight yep, and there's no logic behind any of it either . . .
it was a very anticlimatic ending...which is a shame.
Totally agree, the pool part completely ruined it for me too
I would have ended the movie with the guy/girl flying to another country then have scene of a crowd of people walking towards them.
+VeggeMight in the critic commentary the critic's take on it is that they are still kids and the whole electrifying It in the pool thing is very much a plan that a kid would come up with. Although he goes into much more detail :P
One thing I noted about this movie and didn't quite understand why is that they seemed to use music from the game "Fez" in it. Mike once did a review about that game. I was astonished he didn't bring it up.
This movie was such a letdown to me. I mean, the cinematography and soundtrack? Great.
The characters? Plain stupid, the storyline? Interesting but it goes NOWHERE.
I felt like the entire idea could have been a lot more fleshed out. It just seemed to set up things but didn't really know where to take it.
It just felt like a movie that wanted to imitate 80's movies but didn't fully develop it's own story or lore.
I thought the movie, The Guest, was a much better "80's" style throwback movie, which also had a bloody brilliant soundtrack.
+gyloir tbh. I believe that the director didnt think much of the story all the way but more of the unsettlingness that IT is always following you and for you to watch your back. It makes you feel hands on your back like it is now that i am typing this.
I thought I was the only one who didn't understand the praise this movie got. The main characters in this movie seemed like they were braindead. They acted like the situation their friend was something that commonly happens. Like that geeky guy who wants to have sex with the girl even though the moron obviously knows that the thing will start to stalk him if he does that. No one in real life acts this way!
I agree with all your points. I didn't care for this movie.
+gyloir considering the characters in 99% of horror movies, especially teenagers, are just horrible putrid people, i'd say these characters are at least more likeable than most. They aren't a bunch of mean spirited jerks, just regular teens. Also, the average teen is about as smart as these characters. They aren't dorks who sit on the internet all day coming up with ways to kill fictional monsters.
clever, though. insert a deus ex machina right into the beginning of the plot with her old friend.
I think the scene you're talking about with the guys on the boat was to show what lengths the character would go to than to further the plot. The part you talk about after the boat would be the difference between the original guy passing on the creature vs her killing random guys. In other words, he had the decency to explain than to buy some time, lol. I liked the movie but I think the film could have played with the concept more so almost like the reverse of Body Snatchers.
Please review The Babadook!
+TheAdam1995 don't they record the episodes in advance?
Wasn't into it. The kid just annoyed the shit out of me.
+jeffzalonka the movie is about depression and so on, so if you can't deal with the boy, then maybe you'll understand why the mother snaps later on. The boy annoyed me too, but that's the point.
The movie is that deep, you just have to know what you are looking for. People going in understanding that the babadook is not actually a monster, but more so a disorder, then they understand it's not a horror movie. There are key words in the book, there is subtle things, such as the boy acting out. Basically she snaps due to the loss of her husband, the son acting up in school, and his constant attitude at home. You may not be able to make it through due to his acting, but they had him act that way for a purpose. You'll see later in the movie he stops. I did not think his acting was that awful considering plenty of kids act out like he does with that annoy screaming. I mean, I do not doubt you did not like his acting, but it did have a purpose.
+TheAdam1995 So much 'Yes' in this comment!
The whole movie was a tribute to the old style John carpenter type slasher movies. It purposely had things from multiple decades to make it timeless, the creature always walks yet catches up, the music, the fact that sex gets you killed, the parents are never around, the "nerd" that gets the girl after being a hero. It is a true parody of the genre. I thought it was great and definitely worth a watch for horror fans.
Watch the Babadook.
+FatalKrouzer Shite. Fucking shite.
+Zen Leaf true
+FatalKrouzer Good movie
+Zen Leaf Could you elaborate on that? I'm curious because right now it has a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and that fucking website drives me crazy sometimes with how critics will love stupid shit and hate legitimately enjoyable movies.
+FatalKrouzer I thought it was slow. I had a hard time sitting through it. I thought It Follows was better along with The Conjuring from a few years ago.
Did you guys see the multiple articles about the writers saying that they created certain things in the movie like the "shell-phone" and the use of dated technology to imply that the characters in the movie were in a dream/nightmare? Things such as the lack of parents and the "Scooby-Doo" antics to try and kill "It".
I think it was a phenomenal movie. The fact that the rules of "It" are literally only known by the people in the situation and the fact that nobody really knows what "It" is makes this movie incredible.
I thought it was an allegory about Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD's), was it not?
It was. I thought the same.
Hey guys! Really liking the Monster Madness yet again. The movie is actually 2014, you might wanna change that in the title.
I agree with Mike - I give it a side thumb. I thought it had some good core ideas, some unique flavor, and some creepy scenes here and there, but I also found it to contain a lot of scenes and length that didn't need to be there, as James said, and I found a lot of the choices and reactions of characters to be pretty odd and unrealistic. Worst of all, though, was the blandness of it all. Everybody in this world is so dull, void of emotion, and void of life. I know they were trying to set a dreary, off-putting mood, but it just came out as incredibly dull, and I couldn't care at all about any of the characters due to their lack of personality or emotion. I didn't care about their potential relationships, I didn't care about their well-being, and I didn't care about how they would deal with this situation because, well, the characters and the movie itself didn't seem to care. There's a fine line of likable and unlikable characters in a horror movie need to meet, and this one missed it by a long shot. Still a good movie, just no where near as good as the hype it got made it out to be, and still pretty flawed. Like they said, though, one of the better recent horror films.
Don't forget the atmospheric, synthesizer music. Pure 1980's gold. It would be good music to play during a Halloween party or outside your home to set the mood for trick-or-treaters.
Monster Madness!!!!
Plot is no more ridiculous than a nightmare on elm street
CURSE. The word you are looking for is CURSE. lmao
I see what you're saying about the last negative, of the guys on the boat. While directly to the plot it may not have had an enormous impact, but you can't overlook what they were going for; showing how far this 'it' has driven her.
I never let hype ruin an otherwise good film for me. Mike is obviously someone who takes his frustration out on a film just because people won't shut up about it. People who actually use the term "overrated" as a criticism lose any credibility. Literally ANYTHING can be interpreted as "overrated" by someone out there.
0 - 0:30 Please Mike let James talk, that's why we are here
They should have defeated the monster by filming a POV sex tape, releasing it onto the internet, and then "It" has to go around killing all of the people who watched it.
"The Guest" is also a really great modern horror movie. It's on Netflix right now. It's a military thriller that becomes a Jason Vorhees movie. Really cool.
It's sad that most horror movies this time are about ghosts/spirits/paranormal.
I know right? Its like a law now in horror.
+Wolfbane Kiryu For years it was psychopaths, sadists, deranged families (Saw, Hostel,...) and zombies mostly. Now it's ghosts and witches again. Happens every ten years or so.
I miss the monsters (especially Gamera).
+Alex Pana Except for the fact that paranormal stuff is real and does happen.
I miss the old monsters movies back in the 80's and 90's.
I didn't think the scene with the boat was entirely pointless: it set up how difficult it is to pass the "curse" on to someone else--especially an unwitting victim because they will likely just be killed and you get it again. I felt that it helped show how the characters were getting "boxed in" with the curse.
I wasn't impressed with It Follows. It's just a more tolerable entry in the overall lacklustre shelf of contemporary horror movies.
+Cap'n Mo Yeah, it was extremely overrated, I think people mistook an original idea and cool soundtrack for a good movie.
+NaughtyDrake that movie was trash i'll say it.
+NaughtyDrake Or maybe you have poor taste? It was a good film.
mat24486 I have a good and more varied taste in movies than 99.9% of people I know, studied film, and like every genre. Like I said, it was a good idea, it had a good soundtrack, it even has some cool scenes - but overall, it was lacking.
It was explained as a transmitted curse basically. Also they do explain if they killed it or not. (They didn't) In the end when they are walking together you can see the creature following them and then the credits roll.
I thought this movie was complete garbage. Meandering pace, inconsistent rules and several cuts that leave things unexplained in the most frustrating of ways.
The fact that this has 96% on rotten tomatoes blows my mind.
This and "Under The Skin" were two crazy movies I saw and really enjoyed.
great movie
kasey ferguson thats good i want one
I disagree that they can cut the scene where she swims out to seduce the boat bros. It shows the desperation she has to get away from the curse and how low she has sunk. And also how freaking dangerous “it” is. Literally only bought her enough time to take a day off
I always get the impression Mike is trying to gain James' favor, or convince him he's legit. Or something, can't put my finger on it.
+Joshua King who cares?
I do, obviously. Don't I matter?
+Joshua King no
Joshua King why? they don't care why should you? focus on your own problems lol.
Because it's weird and distracting. And they might care. There's an awkwardness to their screen presence because of it. Or maybe it's something else.
Check out The Final Girls, (not final girl), it's a throwback slasher horror-comedy. It was a great surprise, really cool premise too!
i hate this movie :(
+Wowkillingspree It is the best horror movie of this year
We'll with the current state of horror movies, that is not saying much.
+clay jack still besides have too give credit when it's earned .
Its a nice movie but there are things I did not like such as:
SPOILERS AHEAD
- the pool scene because I thought "IT" is supposed to just follow until it gets close enough to kill you and not think of strategies to avoid traps.
- at the beginning when they are at the theater and playing the which one would you be of all those persons, and the guy points to "IT" without actually knowing it until the girl says that she doesn't see it !! isn't "IT" supposed to be like out of place and walking inexorably towards you ? that is enough to spot it by your own if you ask me.
However I liked the scene when she swims to the boat (you know the rest of the story), because it shows that getting rid of the disease without warning the victim of the consequences is nearly useless, because "IT" will kill them easily and get back to you right away.
But overall it was a good, original and refreshing horror movie.
I really like this movie. I didn't let the hype get to me. it's a good throw back to the 70s-80s horror movies.
you guys need to talk about Hills have Eyes and Wrong Turn, those cannibal related horror films
or Cannibal Holocaust, it was banned in like 50 countries but surprisingly you can watch it on CZcams lol
Also the clamshell phone thing was basically just them trying to hold down some ambiguity in the setting, to add to the weirdness of the atmosphere.
Saw this at the 7th Annual Shock Around the Clock (24Hr Horror Marathon) in Columbus, OH this year. I called IT the GhoSTD or STDemon. The other great premier at this year's show was Deathgasm. If that movie wasn't made for James Rolfe, I'll eat my hat.
Just realized that there is a futon bed frame behind you, James haha
I'm surprised they didn't talk at all about the soundtrack for this movie.
The idea of the Follower reminded me very much of the original John Carpenter version of Halloween, with Michael Myers, when he was simply "The Shape". I think that was part of what helped elevate his iconic original, and I think this one hits home even more today because of the whole idea of how so many people just meet through online dating and hook up, without knowing anything about the people they meet. There's a lot of sub text going on with this movie, and I think that's part of what makes it so great, it makes you actually think.
PS- I was writing about the Halloween comparison about a minute before you guys mentioned it.. So great minds think alike!
YMS had a great observation on this. There's a shot with It standing (not walking) on the roof of the house. The filmmakers wouldn't shoot the actor walking on the roof it seems, but how did he get up there anyway? He walks towards the infected person. How did the roof figure into that?
I love the fact that it was so campy like the old 80's films and very similar to the original Halloweens tone.
I kinda like the boat scene because it leaves it open ended. She could have banged the guys on the boat to buy some time or she could have changed her mind and went back on that thought. It's kinda up to you, like whether the "monster" is dead or not.
Mike is sooooo elitist.
+Aksel S God no. He says to watch "The Taking of Deborah Logan" which is a pretty mediocre movie.
+Aksel S Elitist? Not really.
Great to hear you guyS doing these reviews, especially something so recent. Have you guys ever checked out "the guest"? it's by the guys who did "you're next". it's not horror per se but is a great flick with a Halloween/terminator/the hitcher feel.
+Duct Tape you're the worst
I think the boat scene was important because it shows where the desperation caused by IT can take you. It might not push the plot forward, but it's definitely an important character developing moment
THE BABADOOK! Most intense cinematic experience I've seen in years.
I love your videos and you guys are such a inspiration ... I live in Canada and I am really pissed that I missed you at. A&C games
I think the only way to get rid of the monster is to be very rich and have a crew of engineers make a shatter proof/pressure proof container, lock that thing inside and have it submerged in the middle of the pacific ocean. Other than that, while the movie has great paranoid tension and thrilling moments it felt like a goddamn hipster horror movie. That should answer James' question about what timeline it was. Its recent, the whole movie is just intended to look like a hipster convention.
There are several film analysis videos that shed light on several aspects that I found quit interesting by Leon Thomas, Ryan Hollinger and Joey Truant
I love the concept. Beautifully simplistic. Great soundtrack. The characters were okay. The lead and the guy who passed it on to her were very good. The side characters were okay (a bit 2-dimensional especially the "nice-guy" love interest). I thought it was funny how "Craig" looked like a young Egoraptor. I also like how it was told like an 80s horror movie and urban legend with the kids building traps. Is it scary? A bit. Overall its good, but don't buy into the hype for it. Don't watch a trailer. Don't read a review. Go see the movie.
Will we ever get a review for the Maniac Cop trilogy? Robert Z'Dar (RIP) was freaking brilliant and made a "Jason clone" one of the most unique slashers of the 80's.
What's sad about this is we were joking about making a movie about a "Spiritually Transmitted Disease" a few months before this came out. :(
The Taking of Debra Logan was pretty good. I love the scene at the end, in the tunnels. I won't spoil it but it was unexpected.
I felt like the scene where she swims in the water near the boat, and in the pool at the end, was alluding to the fact that "IT" may have a weakness to water. Like maybe she waited in the water near the boat and discovered it wouldn't enter the water.
+ZacFu64 At the end it didn't enter the water because it realized they had stacked electrical things around the pool to try to electrocute it.
The anachronism was intentional to make it seem like it was so dreamlike. The entire film operates on dream logic to make it look even more surreal, as the concept of the film came to a director as a dream.
literally 10 seconds into the trailer I knew this would be a movie that was up my alley, so I paused it, didn't finish it, and managed to distance myself away from all the hype. I'm so glad I did that because this is definitely one of those movies that knowing less is better. Kinda like Sicario.
Pretty cool, scary, and most important, original idea to come from the horror scene in quite some time. The indie horror scene is generally a bit more original because they can't rely on special effects, but this one was mad genius. It will grow on you. In time, even Mike will change his rating to a "thumbs-up".
Best film to come from a bunch of kids with a video camera, some spare time, and a bunch of old televisions.
If you liked the actress, watch The Guest. One of my favourite action thriller movies.
And it takes place during Halloween :)
