Thank you for showing from seedling to harvest in the containers. So many videos only show the beginning part and don’t show the end results.
Thank you very much 😊 The video was supposed to involve also sowing seeds, but my first camera (GoPro) made corrupted files 🙁 and I was unable to use them. I really appreciate your feedback 🙏
You have given me new hope. I'm gonna try again, thanks & God bless!
Top video . Nothing complicated , just simple and easy to understand instructions . My first time growing them this year , and I'm using your containers method 👍
Thank you very much, I am happy you like the video and find it helpful! I will grow brussels sprouts in larger containers or grow bags this year 🙂
I hope you will find joy growing them and have solid harvest! Good luck 👍🍀
Just what i was looking for to plant brussel sprouts on my apartment!!!!👍🏻👍🏻😍
Thanks, I like that this is from start to finish. Gives me more confidence in growing Brussels
Nice to see the life cycle. Thanks
Thank You very much, that's exactly why I like making these videos. Being able to see plant's life cycle in few minutes is interesting to me 🙂
First time grower of the sprouts. I'll try one in a container with more confidence now. Thanks =]
It's soooo cute the little vegetables hehehe
I really enjoyed your video. I'm growing brussel sprouts now. Zone 7. Good information, my first time. Thanks
Thanks it's my first time seeing brussel sprouts being grown. Once the right season is here I'm ready to try doing it on my own.
Hello, these are awesome plants to grow. I am growing two varieties right now for fall harvest, including red variety. Thank You! ☺
Thank you for the video. Appreciate it!
Nice . I just started some sprouts , they will be in 5 gal pails soon .
..thank you so much sir for your beautiful information....its awesome.
Looks great! I am growing for the first time. Great video thanks for sharing
Great video. I love seeing the actual growth of the plant. This is my first time growing them. About how long did it take for the sprouts to start showing on the stalk?
Thank you Karen 💚 It took them 2 weeks to emerge from soil and next 3 weeks to reach that size in the seedling trays.
Wow perfect..i love farming..im ur new friend here forever..i love to watched full ur videos my friend..thank u for sharing..
Great video! Thank you! I just planted my brussel sprout seeds last night without a container plan 😅 so this was perfect!
I suggest You grow brussels sprouts in slightly bigger containers (depends on variety). But at least 15-20l (4-5gal). You will get much better yield.
Thank You very much ☺🌱🍀
Thank you ❤🎉😊
Plenty of fruits i just planred my Brussels sprout i hope it grows like yours
Wow its my first time to see that sprout to grow, maybe it will not grow here in Philippines, thanks for sharing
Yes this plant thrives in cool weather and requires long growing period, but there are varieties that grow faster, maybe give it a try, I mean nothing to lose 😇 it might be possible during winter season, in a spot with morning sunlight and shade when the sun gets stronger. Thank you for comment 🙏🍀
Brussell sprouts seem challenging. I’m going to try next spring though
It's not hard, just choose bigger container if you want bigger and longer productive plants. Or if you can, grow them in the ground, I still have like 8 plants in the garden and they are like 5.5ft tall and still productive 🍀
I think they're easy. Starting Stevia from seeds is one of the most challenging and frustrating experiences of my life. I'm not giving up. LOL
Thanks
I am never able to grow them in the South of US. They look beautiful!
Because of the hot weather? I think you should give it a try, start them in October and find them a spot with morning sun and shade in afternoon. There are also quicker-maturing varieties which are suited for warmer locations. Try it, nothing to lose 👍 thank you very much for feedback 🍀 have a great day!
I grew them in central Florida zone 9b during winter months. They actually did very well.
Thanks for this video. Im starting mine and this will help me.
Exactly what I was looking for, thanks so much for this! What were you saying about "boron" deficiency? Are you saying to add boron to the soil?
Yes, there are clear signs of boron deficiency when I am harvesting sprouts. This happens quite often when growing brussels sprouts in container, especially this small container.
Great video, thank you! I finally have 2 purple brussel sprouts growing nicely indoors under grow lights and 2 brussel sprouts growing slowing outside. I've planted at least 10 last year they all died on me, but I kept planting them Haha.
What is the size of the pot you are using?
Great you have some growing right now, how are they doing under the growlight? Any idea why the last year was not succesful?
The pot size I used for these was almost 10 liter (2.6 gal). I am saying it in the video, but you might not recognize it - I am not native English speaker 😳
Though, if you want to grow these plants in containers and get bigger plants with much better yield, I'd suggest you use 5 gallon size containers.
Thank you for watching 🙂
I get some of those huge cow protein pots that hold 200lbs of molasses. I get some for free from the ranchers and other charge 1.50 a pot. I can stick 3 okra plants in 1 pot and they will produce like crazy. I got Brussel sprouts, broccoli, chard, and others going. I also started them off with large hanging T5 grow lights.
Fab video. Growing sprouts for the first time here 🤞🏻How deep are these pots? I want to use a raised planter, about 6.5” deep?
These pots are about 9 inches deeep (22cm). Good luck growing your own brussels sprouts! 🙂
@@Liap Thank you. I went for deeper individual pots.. loving my new venture.
The key is fertilizer.they don’t don’t do well without a boost every couple weeks of water soluble fertilizer.
Wow you got bigger sprouts in those little containers than I did in mine that I use a lot bigger ones. What type of sprouts are those?
I am growing brussel sprouts this year for the first time. I hate those cabbage moth worms, this year I am using netting so I hope it works, I fight those things every year
Hello, I am using netting too this year. The very same fight over here.
Good luck! 🍀
I planted my sprout plants last year, didn’t get any harvest from them. This year they seem to be flowering and developing buds. Is this normal for sprouts as this is my second year gardening?
Brussels sprouts are biennials, means their life cycle is 2 years. On the second year they flower and produce seeds, so yes it is normal 🙂
Thanks for the video! Will brussel sprouts keep growing after harvest? Can you trim them to have a bigger harvest?
Hello. Unfortunately, no. Once your harvest them, the sprouts won’t grow back.
Only removing bottom leaves when they start to die off.
This video was incredible and very educational. But I've gotta know, where'd you get the music track that starts after the 3 min mark in the video??
They do require some work, gotta trim them just like a palm tree. Make room for the sprouts to grow ☺️
I did trim only leaves that turned yellow. I belive sprouts are making this space themselves 😉
Other than the "brain cell killing" elevator music, great info!! haha
Hello, I apologize for the music, I will try to choose music more carefully in the future.
Thank You very much! 🙂
Do you think I can grow it in tropical country in the balcony using LED lights? Does it always come as a package with caterpillars? 😵💫 Thanks
I don’t think it will thrive in tropic climate, but you can try in the coolest part of the year with a Lot of water 🙂 yes caterpillars love these plants 😕
Do you do any pruning? I watched another vid where they removed most of the leaves
No, I don’t. You can remove the very top of the plant in september or october, roughly 3-4 weeks bedore harvest. The plant will then put more energy in to growing sprouts instead of growing taller. But I grow brussels sprouts throughout the winter in garden and I am harvesting them regulary, not all at one harvest. So that is why 🙂 hope this helps you!
As you takeoff, the leaves, are they edible as well ?
reminds me of collard greens leaves
Well, yes they are edible, but big leaves are rather tough. Younger ones can be used the same way You would use collard greens, or Kale leaves. Though they are a bit tougher I'd say.
In lower Alabama I plant in late summer and let them grow right through our mild winter freezes...yet mine are still growing so slow that it feels like it's gonna be hot before I get a good crop :(
You can plant them earlier, i grow mines from may sometimes even april and we have pretty hot summers over here too. They will get some size and in the autumn they really start to shine 🙂 brussels sprouts need quite long time to produce solid yield. Atleast that is my experience and that´s why I plant them earlier.
do sprouts regrow after harvest? can you produce the same yield over and over with just the one plant?
Unfortunately, no. Once the plant reaches it’s final height and you harvest all the sprouts, it’s no longer productive.
What is about the right size pot to grow in? 3 gallon? 5 gallon?
Definitely 5 gallon size, my ones were rootbound. Even though they made some decent yield, I will grow these plants in bigger containers next year. At least 15l (almost 4 gallon). Expecting much bigger plants 😎🌱
I've been growing mine for two months now, and still no Brussels sprouts. Any advice on what may being going wrong?
Hello Candice! Give them some more time. These plants require long time until they can be productive, especially in the winter when days are much shorter (assuming you live in mild winter area).
There might not be anything wrong, just be patient. brussels sprouts will grow almost to their final height at first and then start being productive. If your ones are good size and healthy green, they will grow you some yield for sure!
Good luck 🍀
Also they produce the sprouts when it’s really cold. So maybe soon they will.
after a month im still waiting for your 2 week results lol think its time to start over damn it.
Hello, can You provide more information what could be the reason for that? Do they get enough sun? What is the temperature?
@@Liap dont try to start them under 75 watts shop lights..... experiment gone wrong. also i dont know wtf im doing when it comes to anything but peppers, marijuana, or tomatoes and am just guessing in most cases
Do the leaves fall away by themselves or do you have to remove them?
They will turn yellow and fall off by themselves. Or you can help them 🙂 doesn't matter. Though, leaves are edible. If you can use them, don't wait until they turn yellow 😉
What fertilizer did you use for plant and how?
Nettle fertilizer and I just mix it with water, roughly 1:10 ratio and water the plants with it once, sometimes twice a week.
I bought some 4 -6 inch seedlings and the tag said "85" days to produce....I planted them late May or early June......that should be enough time but I don't know.....hope so....
It is enough time. Brussels sprouts dont grow very well in hot weather, but once it cools down it will grow much faster. Depends on the area where you live, if it's too hot during the summer, the "85 days" will take a little bit longer 🙂
Thanks a lot although It was too advanced for me, how should I start? put one brussel sprout in small container?
Hello, yes You can start seeds in seedling trays and thin seedlings to one per cell, and when they have 4-6 true leaves transplant them into container. If You have some small size variety 15 liter size, otherwise 20.
@@Liap omg thank you! I'm going to, they're so expensive where I live, I better learn to grow them!
@@MistyDrifter where do You live? They are very easy to grow in mild climates.
@@LiapIn Greece, there are all types of cruciferous veggies in the farmer's market except the brussels sprouts. Have to buy imported ones from supermarket. I hope it's just a popularity issue and not a weather issue lol.. Thank you again, you've been very helpful :)
@@MistyDrifter In Ancient Greece people grew cabbages, so I assume the growing conditions are suitable. I am growing some right now 🙂
Thank You very much and Good Luck 🍀
You can try to use natural pesticide made of boiled plants. There are a lot of beautiful natural way to make natural pesticide.
@@Liap it keeps deleting my comment. Try it on test plants and also be aware about the fact that it keeps away also pollinators, so don't use it on plants that need pollinators.
I got some cold damage to my baby Brussel sprouts...should I remove the damaged leaves?
Yop, I still grow some in garden and I am regulary getting rid of wilted leaves damaged by frost.
Though, If you have some frost damage on little ones, just harvest them whenever you want. The outer leaves will protect the whole "ball", even if surface is yellow and not looking healthy, it's going to be alright once you peel off the outer leaves.
I am curious why 🙂 I mean you are still using the leaves in the kitchen I guess, but why are you more interested in leaves than the Brussel sprouts?
Great video,
What size containers are those and what size do you suggest is best?.
Thank you, these are 10 liter size containers. 20l will be enough to grow same size plants as you would in ground.
@@Liap I grew Broccoli in 25 litre buckets last year and they did rather well and grew then inside an old netting of a 6 man tent as this kept most of the pests at away so might try some Sprouts s this video was helpfull.😊
Never had Brussel sprouts. What do they taste like?
Kind of hard to compare the taste to anything. A lot of people don't like them. But I do 😋 it is a bit sweet and smoky if that makes sense 🙂 when cooked.
Once harvested, would they regrow?
No, once you harvest brussel sprouts, they will not regrow on the same spot. But they will continue growing upwards. I still have some in the garden and as it is around 1°C to 6°C they are still productive and I am harvesting decent yield every week.
Does the plant die once all the sprouts have been picked off?
Brussels sprouts are biennials. They will produce sprouts during the first year and bloom in the second one. After they produce seeds, that's when their life cycle ends.
@@Liap Soooo "IF" One can Keep the plant Alive through to the 2nd year... The Seeds it produces Can be Planted?!?!? And Hopefully GROW?!?!?
@@KatheeWilkinson-yy6ry Well, yes. But their flowers need to be cross-pollinated. So You will need more than just one plant flowering at the same time. Also, all cole crops are same species and will cross with each other. So in order to have the same plant, You must ensure that only the same type of plants are flowering at the time.
Which month we have to plant them
So they mature during cool weather. Where I live we plant these in summer for autumn/winter harvest.
I want seed
What type of Brussels Sprouts are they?
I think I don't understand the question 😕 If you ask for variety I think these ones were called "Groninger"
Hope this helps 🙂
@@Liap Yes, that was my question! Sorry for the confusion, and thanks!! 😂😂
Can we grow it in Kerala, South India?
Well I can't say for sure, but I would suggest you start them in october and grow them during winter time. Try to find them a spot with morning sun and shade when the sun is at it's strongest. There are also quicker-maturing varieties which have been created for warmer locations. I know some people grow these plants in Florida during winter months succesfully. You should give it a try, there is nothing to lose and I would love to hear from you about results 😉 Good luck!
Thanx a lot for ur sincere reply. I want to give it a try. Bt where can i get these seeds? This is totally a new thing for us.
Hi where can I buy the seeds
Here in Europe it’s quite common vegetable, so it’s pretty much in every garden shop. Also it’s available online. Where are you from?
Dont just eat the sprouts the leaves can be esten too
Next time you're picking out caterpillars by hand, do it at night and use a blacklight (just a little flashlight one will do). They glow under black lights so they're easier to spot
Thank you for an advice! 🙏🙂
@@Liap Thank you for a great video! I'm hoping to finally grow some brussel sprouts for the fall, so this was great! I've attempted brussel sprouts for two years and they always fail, so I'm hoping that the third time is the charm!
@@midnightlightthevamp Any idea why did it fail?
@@Liap One time, bad soil. The second one, the starters didn't get enough light since I was only growing them by a window. I'm going to sow them as soon as I get the seeds outdoors this time, and I think I should have more than enough time before our first frost.... and even then, they only get better after a bit of cold!
@@midnightlightthevamp Yes you have enough time for them to grow. Thank you for your feedback and good luck! :)
