    Amazing work Salem! It was great meeting you at the Longs Park show this past weekend. Thank you again for taking the time to answer my beginner sculpting questions about the die grinder bits and finishing techniques. I always learn so much from your videos, but being able to ask questions in person was the best part of the show that day. Keep up the great work.

      Thanks, and thank you for stopping by. The silver Kutzall burrs are the most useful to start with. Depending on the shapes you're making and the material, you'll be able to go up or down in the grit grade. Also, any electric chainsaw will work for this. The Makita is expensive, so you might prefer a cheap used one until you decide upon the higher investment.

    For this particular piece what was the thickness of the single plank of spectraply you started with? And, I assume that it took a single plank for each of the two sides right and left?
    Thanks in advance. Amazing work.

    • @SalemBarker
      @SalemBarker  Před 2 lety

      This was made from a single plank of Dymalux panel. I should have bought spectraply.
      I think the plank was 42" x 10" x 1.75". I cut it in half and glued it to make it thicker and then cut it diagonally to make two triangles.

    Amazing creation!!! Wow. Where do you get Spectraply in that size?

    • @SalemBarker
      @SalemBarker  Před 5 lety +2

      Cwp-usa.com . It's a 42" long plank, cut in half and glued to double the thickness.

    Love your work. I had a pool cue made out of that wood. What is it name?

    • @SalemBarker
      @SalemBarker  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks. The exact product is Dymalux Green Mountain Camo from Cwp-usa.com. spectraply is a less dense product, which is what I should have ordered but I didn't understand at the time. Dymalux is VERY hard and heavy. And the dust very toxic.

    What type of wood is this? Nice piece !

    • @SalemBarker
      @SalemBarker  Před 3 lety +1

      This is Dymalux Green Mountain Camo from CWP-USA.COM. it's hard like acrylic. I should have bought their Spectraply for this project but I didn't realize what I was ordering. Spectraply is more like fine plywood. Dymalux is vacuum impregnated with a plasticizer and then baked to harden.

    How do you color the wood first

    • @SalemBarker
      @SalemBarker  Před 4 lety

      The thin layers of wood are colored individually prior to being glued together. They're soaked in a water based dye in a vacuum chamber and glued after dyeing. I acquired the equipment to do it myself and then just decided to buy the finished product from cwp-usa.com

    • @SalemBarker
      @SalemBarker  Před 7 měsíci

      The finish on this one is Minwac Wipe-On Poly, but these days I spray Ilva Acrylic Urethane. Here's how: czcams.com/video/lYA4V5pel-I/video.htmlsi=PiI6YoOuUAZIxP3w
