In UK engineering apprentices used to make all their own tools as part of their training on the fitting bench. I still have most of mine, and they have had 45+ years of use. (the ones that have not been "borrowed"). If you buy cheap tools you must expect them to break from time to time. The tap-wrench you have made will be with you for the rest of your days.
I forgot something -- Your Video Footage is Excellent - No wasted time -- but your message is absolutely well delivered . You may be in Vietnam and I'm in the USA -- we are connected . More Video's Please !
@ IMHO your machining videos are right up there with the very best on youtube along with Abom79, ThisOldTony, and Stefan Gotteswinter. I'm delighted every time a new video from Cà Lem arrives in my inbox!
Very clever way of making your tap wrench. You demonstrate great skill and enthusiasm with your hand made tools. I made my own thread die wrench years ago from a piece of 4140 as I was tired of the bought holders failing, threads stripping, and handles going loose. When I finished it, it was bead blasted, polished with steel wool to high light worn edges and blued it with selenous acid. Best thread die holder I have (biased of course)
Thank you for sharing your time in the shop and more importantly your time spent editing the video. I look forward to your next project, always learn something new.
My friend - I just stumbled across your channel yesterday and had to Sub right away. The combination of styles between ToT, Diresta, Abom and a few others, plus your own --- great content. Keep it up.
Indeed! It's a technique called 'broaching'. There are 2 main types: Linear (most common, used to make angular cuts (most commonly for keyway slots)) and Rotary (for square /hexagonal etc. holes).
I can't tell if you're an artist, a machinist, a designer, sculptor, or all that. Certainly a musician. I do know I am a big fan of you work/art/designs. If you ever start a catalog of things you build for sale, I'd be interested. I'll take one of your vise-anvils and a tap wrench, please.
i'm still not clear on how you made the adapter for the four-jaw using the tap wrench you made with the four-jaw. [ is this one of those This Old Tony time machine lathes? ]
1:46 first time I've seen that trick for centering on the lathe. Thanks for teaching me something new.

Such a shame they stopped teaching metalwork in UK schools.
