    You, my dear, are a lifesaver! I went to clean a “dog accident” late last night and our Bissell started making an awful noise. With the help of your video I dismantled it, gave it a thorough cleaning, and we were back in business. Thank you SO much for this wonderful resource!

    Have to say Thank You! I ordered my Bissell Carpet cleaner for $5 and paid $5 shipping-arrived in two days.I spent 50 minutes on taking it apart-putting it back together and realizing that you put both belts on while apart so apart again and back together so I now reconize all the parts you talked about and know it like the back of my hand now.I was following paper instructions instead of you like I should have done.Thanks because mine cleaner cost me $300.00 and now I am a repair woman.

      Timothy Zimmer So glad the video helped you fix your Bissel. Plastic keeps the product cost down but it does ensure repair. Americans complain about about quality but never learn to repair anything like our granpdarents did. Kudos to you on that! Little boys like to jump in the videos. Geared belt is the brush belt, pump belt is accessed from the top. A skinny screwdriver slothead works best to pry off the pump belt holder, that is another video... This is a good video, just wanted to note that brush belt was the one she replaced. Not the pump belt, but I suppose it hooks to the pump so it's sort of okay to call it the pump belt. There are 2 belts, mine had a broken pump belt when I bought the whole unit used at the 2nd hand store, replaced the pump belt and saved a lot of $$, it works great! People could have just changed one belt and it would have worked, but they went out and bought a new one I bet... My lucky day...

  • @Pat_Speaks
    @Pat_Speaks Před 5 lety +2

    Great video. Thank you so much for the easy instructions, I decided to do some cleaning and your video made it so much easier. I tried the manual and ended up saying "huh?"
    I think I have the same problem with the black clip on the left side, since it would not come off, but it will work at least for the spot cleaning (my 17 yr old cat will go head to head with any dog on making a mess...the great puker). Just a note, Amazon has a Bissell store and if you have Prime membership you can get the parts in a couple days with no shipping costs. I decided to order a new roller with the clips and both the pump and brush belts for Bissell Pro-Heat (older model) for the grand total $22.58 which included WA State tax.
    Thank you again for giving me the courage and the great instructions to take it apart and replace the things I needed to. .

    First things first. I hope that you are not offended if I say that you have a beautiful smile.
    That being said, I wanted to reiterate that the official bissell instructions are indeed microscopic, if not worthless. I am here because of them. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Something I thought might bear repeating is the fact that you MUST vacuum the floor before running your steam cleaner. This is the cause of many issues on this and like machines with plastic parts. Jamb up the works with gunk then rotating parts seize, plastic and rubber parts quickly melt. Best regards.

  • @dontswin
    @dontswin Před 4 lety +1

    So I take 3 screws out and I'm just about done, mine had all dog hair everywhere. It's tricky getting the belt on but mine had ridges. I did the job with the lever pushed in so the roller would flex and the vacuum upside down. It's smart to just take it apart and clean under the brush. I probably prevented breaking one of those plastic sides. You'd think there could be a better design there. Thanks so much for the easy fix.

    I am personally on my 4th machine.
    I purchased the first one in Feb 2014.
    5 1/2 months later, it started just not spraying water or the brushes stopped working. One thing after another.
    So I contacted Bissell who happily sent me another one.
    After 2 cleans with it, I turned it upside down to clean it and saw a sticker that said Refurbished.
    Disappointed it wasn't new, but continued to use it a few more times.
    Sure enough, after about 5 months again, started acting up.
    Contacted Bissell again. They sent me ANOTHER refurbish did NOT work right out of the BOX!
    they basically said too bad.
    Well, after a couple of videos and complaints on the web, the supervisor sent me a brand new one.
    Well, here it is 3 months later and the brushes stopped working.
    I give up.
    BTW, whoever decided to put those little cheap red pieces of plastic on the machine needs to be fired.
    The bend when you try to pull them out, and then they never want to go back in.

    Friction caused a buildup of heat, and caused part to melt. I always add a little bit of synthetic grease to the metal shaft and into the 'cup' in which the shaft sits, this keeps eveything lubricated and cool.

    Yeah, my bissell will not turn on, and I don't think it's the belt. I used it a few months ago and it had a burning smell, so I turned it off immediately. I put it away for awhile, b/c I had a busy schedule, so I cleaned it out, thinking that was the problem, and turned it back on, but now it no longer turns on -- checked out all the outlets in the house, and still doesn't turn back on. Looked for the problem online, and couldn't find the answer.
    Do you think it's a motor problem, and if so, is there a way to fix it? Thanks.

I took it a part because I noticed my problem why the bissell proheat wasnt releasing water was because the heater was full of white stuff im guessing hard water I cleaned all the hoses in the entire machine but now I can't remember where they go. Plus I can't find anything online that could help me.

  • @mommymilestones
    @mommymilestones  Před 11 lety

    It sounds the pump has failed. It could be that a hose leading to or from the pump also. You can check the hoses for damage once it's apart but the pump is most likely the failure. Still replaceable though and cheaper than a new cleaner. Good luck!

I seemingly have nothing holding mine in, other than than that broken stem and a so-so tight space (cuz my brush didn't spin as much with it fallingdown.) But I have the one without handheld nozzle. FYI, I had to super-glue the small metal gear that spins belt and brush. (filled hole with glue, then placed)

    Hi mom, I have a question. My friend let me borrow her cleaner that is just like yours. She said it has been in the garage for a few years and she said she thinks it works as far as she can remember.
    I was checking out the machine just now and I noticed that the switch on the side for adjusting the carpet length or beater bar is stuck on high. I want it to be on the lowest setting to get the best agitation to the carpet and it won't move at all.
    I don't want to put water in it and it not work... Is it normal for the setting to be stuck like that? Do I have to turn it on before I can change the setting or is this one broken? Please help....

    • @mommymilestones
      @mommymilestones  Před 8 lety

      The adjustment is so minimal it really does not make a major difference if it is stuck. Tip it up, like a wheelie, then adjust it. You may not be seeing it move up or down as it only regulates the beater bar not the rear wheels.

  • @MzLadyDee1
    @MzLadyDee1 Před 9 lety

    So how did you find out it was the brush?

  • @mommymilestones
    @mommymilestones  Před 11 lety

    I would purchase the lint screen to save the life of the machine. My cleaner solution dispenser quit once as I had turned it too far and dislodged it it the water only position. You have to take it apart to fix it or you can add the cleaner right to your water tank. If you have the heat version solution can get dried between use in the hoses. You can flushes them out with hot water if you take it apart. I clogged mine once trying to use oxyclean with water in a test spot.

      I would guess that that black rubber gasket that meets the clear plastic and solid p km a stick is loose , damaged or missing. It is a rectangle gasket near the top arch .

      Is it that gasket that is under the gray plastic that moves up and down based on the knob labeled hand tools or vacuum?

      +Crystal McClain If you mean the part where the water goes in there are Philips screws along the edge.

      Don't forget to clean the suction filter on the top part. If it's plugged it won't suck.

    On mine, it was squealing a lot and giving off a motor burning smell. It turned out to be the small motor that spins the beater brush. It had been exposed to water and that had dispersed any bearing oil. So I took that portion apart and gave the motor an oil job. After giving the motor oil job was completed, the little motor had a big smile on its face, and was smoking a tiny cigarette. Just kidding LOL. Anyhow, everything was back to working up to par.

      It has a screw holding it in place. Lift out with needle nose pliers. Good luck!

    I have the same cleaner, the issue that I'm having is that it will not suck up the water. What do you think that could be?

      The pump controls suction. I went straight through Bissell for my replacement. Easy parts list reference when you enter your model number. For me they are an hour away but no local pick up, I ordered it the evening and had it the next day. Easy repair and such huge savings over a new machine. Especially for me, I did not want a heated version as the failure rates are fantastic and the unheated versions are small and cheap.

      +mommymilestones Great video; thanks. Do you also have a video where you follow the suction and work on the pump? I have learned so much and saved so much money from home repair videos on CZcams. No worries about the kids, btw. That's a Mom's life!

      There are screws along the bottom and a rubber gasket at the top. The 2 comined create a tight seal over years of use. If it is dry it's all the harder to get off. Best to remove when freshly used with hot clean water.

    I was using mine and in the middle of use it stopped running? Turned it over and the belt had broke. Would this keep it from turning on?

    • @mommymilestones
      @mommymilestones  Před 8 lety +1

      The belt powers the pump not the motor. Check another outlet in the house to make sure it is not a breaker or fuse in the basement.

    If that last thing isn't spinning.. what does that mean exactly, and how do I fix it? I have a slightly different model than you do.. but those basic parts you went over appear identical.. so I'm at a loss. Water is coming through the bottom.. but it's not spraying. I have the proheat pet, and I cannot find any info anywhere.. Bad when you can't find it on youtube..

    • @mommymilestones
      @mommymilestones  Před 9 lety +1

      Hellnogizmo It sounds as if your pump is bad. The pump pressurizes the water through the machine , without it you only get a trickle. The pump also is the driving force behind the beater brush. The only way to know for sure is look at the parts after it is taken apart. The beater brush can fail independently of the pump but when it does and you continue to run it it usually burns up the pump. The cost of parts is well worth the repair and it is fairly simple. You can complete the job in 20-30 minutes with kids distracting you, which is less time than running to the store for a new machine and putting it together. Look on Bissell.com for your model number and a parts list. They ship fast and you will fell accomplished in your repair.

      That sounds amazing. I'm sure it's also way cheaper than a new machine. Lol. Thank you so much. Yea.. the water just runs out of the machine if I pour it in the bottom.. thanks again for the tip. Bissell.com, here I come!
