  • How to weld a magnetic ground clamp for mig welder out of scrap : invention tool.
Today we build a magnetic ground clamp for my Titanium MiG Welder. My ground clamp on my welder was bad and decided to do a quick invention using scrap metal. The magnetic ground clamp uses a magnet from Harbor Freight with a rating of 65lbs but a 95lb is preferred.
Easy welding projects to come including DIY tools and other inventions.

Hey Jorge. That's a cool ground you made. I might have to build one. Thanks for sharing. 🍁👍👍

I love magnetic ground clamps. They're way easier to put on than the regular clamps

This magnet clap worked better than the one I bought at tractor supply. I do plan on build a different one later but this has worked great.

@@cutweldngrind i had ones like in your video that i bought but is a chinesium. It had a neodymium magnet. Worked great, until I welded close to the magnet and it melted the adhesive on the magnet. It stopped working well after that. Bought another one, but beefier. Havent used, but i hope this one is better.

FYI welding near a magnet will induce severe arc blow, it would be a good way to show newbies that problem

Yeah, you are correct. I sometimes weld on oil field pipe that's really magnetized and that arc just goes crazy.

Ok. But I was trying to find a build for one that I could clamp my regular clamp to. This one becomes not as useful when welding small diameter pipe. Maybe? Depends on the strength of the magnet.

That's a pretty awesome idea there. I'll be making one of those😉☝️

Here is a quick project I did since the ground clamp went out on my Titanium MIG140. Hope you enjoy the short video.

So just one piece was scrap... bought everything else?

Scrap yards tend to supply most of the parts and metal I use at no cost. Actually I dump my plasma table scrap pieces and I trade for equal value material.

Thanks. I sometimes get bored and have to do stuff to keep me busy lol.

What size bolts, and what thickness strap metal did you use?

Why not just clamp it to the magnet
