I am Indian Malaysian born in Perak. I was treated like a second class citizen in Malaysia. Opportunities and Wealth were set aside for Bumiputras. At 26, sick of this discrimination I went to study in UK. I was treated better in UK then in Malaysia. My talents, skills and contribution were valued and respected. I have now happily settled in UK. If Malaysia wants to develop as a viable nation, the Bumiputra non-Bumiputra status must be abolished. Brain drain is crippling Malaysia.

For that to happen you need to abolish the whole system of government including the parliment, monarchy and constitution. That means a coup de tat and potentially civil war. But then every single human being in Malaysia, especially born in Malaysia, especially the PRs will be eligible to be in this new Malaysian country whatever it may be called to lose the prefix "Malay", including the many pakistanian, bangladeshis, indonesian, myanmarese and filipinos. They will argue that they are non-bumi that is because they are still less than 100 years apart from the previous non-bumi in term of claim to the land.

For decades, I have been against the NEP. While the inception of the policy was good and sound, unfortunately, it has also given rise to discrimination and abuses. Politicians from the ruling elite and their cronies have abused the policy to enrich themselves and their dynasties. To mislead the ordinary Malays to prevent turning against the Malay elites for monopolizing the NEP and leave the former with just crumbs, the latter have been overdosing the ordinary Malays with ethnic nationalism and accusing the non-Malays of attempting to steal Malay wealth and power, which is sheer nonsense. These false narratives have turned the ignorant Malays to vent their anger outwards towards the non-Malays while the elite Malays are happily enriching themselves away from prying Malay eyes.
Thousands of Malay elites have benefitted from the NEP, making them multi-millionaires and even billionaires. How many have ever been investigated, let alone prosecuted, found guilty and imprisoned, and fined for stealing the national wealth? Yet, many ordinary Malays, especially those who are less successful, are 'red-eyed' at seeing non-Malays who work hard to earn a decent living and are envious of them for being relatively successful in life. These Malay elites, realizing this discontentment among ordinary Malays, add more fuel to the fire by accusing non-Malays of monopolizing the country's wealth and unwilling to share it with the Malays while the former quietly stole the wealth from their own brethren.
Until the Malays start to think independently and stop listening to the narratives put forth by their own elites, they will not progress much. Stop being made a fool by the Malay elites who stand to gain from the feud between the Malays and the non-Malays. The non-Malays work hard under trying circumstances to earn their wealth and deservingly so. The Malays should focus their attention on their own elites who are stealing from them. They are the ones who are hiding their hands after throwing stones at them. The Malays should question their elites how and where they get their wealth from and why most of them become instant tycoons after becoming politicians or being close to politicians. They should actively seek the truth and not foolishly believe in false narratives.

MY was very unfortunate to live with leaders who were only interested to enrich themselves and their family members. However, it took 2 hands to clap during those few decades. The voters have to be blamed too for supporting them for so long. The worst combination for any nation is to have unscrupulous leaders + gullible rakyat.
Moving forward, hope that PMX and team will be given enough mandate, time to correct the almost impossible deep seated problems like the NEP, entitlements, corruptions, cronyism and nepotism. Again, it needs 2 hands to clap too to be successful.

In 1969 Universit Malaya in KL was desperately looking for staff and recruited many from several countries includin India and Britain. The University contacted me in Australia where I was on a presitigious fellowship doing a postdoctoral research. I was offered PR in the country but I decided to come and serve my country of birth. Within 5 years I realised I made a serious blunder but stayed on to see young Malays working with administration to make life miserable for non Malays. Pity a pretigious Univrrsity with high quality staff snd resesrch lost its focus. At one meeting of finance committer I was asked by the VC to reject US40000 offered by WHO for my research work. I accepted the grant and gave a suitable reply to the VC. It was impossible to receive research funds locally. Nowadays the universities give out 200 to 300 PhDs annually and most students endup working as Grab delivery boys.

What sort of Malaysia would they raise their Children in ? Will Malaysia provide them a fertile environment where hard work and efforts are rewarded ? Today we have more people believing in the Clerics (most of them are political) and this is concerning as no one trust politicians anymore. Even the smartest people will have to kowtow to the Clerics and this is a cause for concern. Our country is at risk of being headed by Clerics one day (which I pray will never happen), we have a lot of examples of countries that has taken this path. I cannot help but feeling it is a matter of time. With more malays sending their children to religious schools, where national school is emphasizing on religious activities. Look at our political landscape. There is a race to be the holiest of persons or country instead of doing what is right for the citizens that is suffering and more poor Malaysians will suffer and being kept poor. Just shows why corruption is so prevalent in Malaysia.
Same happened when the USSR dissolved.
The rise of the oligarchs who accumulated state enterprises because the public were dumb enough to sell their shares in these for a song.
