    For me, I like the changes they made to fix the issues Air Raider had in 4.1.
    1. Only 2 weapon slots gave you very little freedom about what to take, since taking an air raid and a turret meant you couldn't bring a limpet gun, so that 3rd slot and improvements to make some gunships act more like conventional weapons really helps.
    2. The ability to reload some weapons/tools in the background lets you have a lot of fun multi-tasking and doesn't punish you for being in a vehicle like trying to reload turrets/borders/posts of old did.
    3. The restriction of not being able to take multiple of the same weapon forces you away from the cheesy double strafe plan / double turret strats that were so common.(The lack of a good conventional weapon in solo play pretty much forced you to run these and the Railgun on Inferno for 70%+ of the campaign.)
    That said, I do think he was over-tuned for this game. Instead of being a support for the more direct combat classes, he has become so self-sufficient and powerful that, aside from having someone be a decoy upfront, he hardly needs a team to beat most missions.

    Thats why i always have a support equipment in one of my slots atleast (powerpost/guardpost/assistguns)
    Because i want to feel as a helper and not one that does everything where the rest of the team can literally eat out there noses.

    What makes phobes strong is its call in time and attack pattern the V shape and the 3/5 second call in time are insane if the call in time is was 10sec like the mortars things would have been quite different also if its attack pattern was like km6 in a straight line its effectiveness was reduced immense if we turn the call in times of phobes and mortar around you would probably see mortars used way more, also the strafe time of phobes is so quick if they made that one slower too like the cluster variation it would make it also better (less OP)

    Note that the last rocket truck does around 880 damage per rocket each rocket divides into 5 to 6 rockets witch is between 4.5 to 5.5k damage.
    against flying aggressors its pretty good (note that you need to have proper distance to not get taking out by 1 xD).
    Use a guide gun and you can do 45k/55k damage per salvo and 450/550k damage total to one target.

  • @speedanime8499
    @speedanime8499 Před 5 lety

    Tempest damage is ok in my opinion note that only the cost is really cheap 3600 on its max thats like 50 black ants the godzilla monsters are good for 5400 points so killing one of those gives it immediately back note that on inferno these monster have a little over 2.000.000hp wich is 5x tempest also the call in time is pretty long and on the crowded missions it’s really hard to maintain the laser and aim it at the right target 5 out of 10 times my tempest misses its target it hits a abject along the way (drone) or something flew by my pointer and it hits the ground 200m in front of it xD
    I just want to see its points increased because you can call that one in far too often damage wise im pretty happy because the 100k on 4.1 was good for crowds but anything else it was a no go, not something you would bring often in 5 i really like it though

    • @KevinEDF
      @KevinEDF  Před 5 lety

      You might know this but if you wait awhile after you call the tempest in to where it is very high in the sky (usually about 15, 20 seconds) and then aim your laser, it doesn't hit mountains and building as much. If you aim the laser right away after it is called, it will come from a lot lower portion on the horizon and tends to hit things

    Honestly imo, air raider needs to go back to two general slots, have the 3rd one be dedicated to self defense weapons like the limpet and suppress guns, and given PDWs and SMGs that are effectively fairly worse ranger ARs so you have an option that isn't choosing between risking blowing yourself up if a bug gets too close, or a single shot confetti cannon that takes 3 seconds to load. It gets rid of the problem of having to justify a sticky bomb launcher over a satellite laser that can kill 10x as many bugs 2x as fast, gives them something so to work with for immediate threats for when they're the last one up and they've got a caliburn, a barga on cooldown or the like that isn't bomb and laser flavored mutually assured destruction, but most importantly it (at least better) justifies the nerfs air raider kinda does need so that its not just a straight nerf, because i see air raider as very front loaded, both damage-wise and tactically, no point in supporting if you can just turn it all to ashes before it drops from an anchor. It'd also give even more incentive to buff some of the limpet guns in fun and interesting ways, because now its an actual choice, maybe something like, i don't know, the air raider is immune to the damage of his Limpets, but not the knockback, giving him a hilariously dumb but effective means of transportation that isn't purely vehicle based?
    Heck you could even make Limpet sub effects a thing and not bother with the PDW idea, set your limpets to "Spiritually A Demoman" for faster movement, or a short range box tether that pulls in all the armor and weapons around it into the center to assist collection, because the way i see peak air raider as a class is someone who already knows what the bugs are gonna do 15 steps before they it even gets there, and plans, with help of their team, to have it dead by 7

    • @KevinEDF
      @KevinEDF  Před 4 lety +2

    Anyone soloed through as an air raider - can you recommend anything for the mission where you defeat the walking base? (I think its 41) he seems to have nothing suitable for shooting off all those lasers so you can safely go under it - and also deal with all the various crap it drops? All the stuff he calls down would be useless and hits its top- the sniper limpet isnt good enough, the vehicles would just get wasted from across the map by the green tracking lasers - etc.

      Use the vulcan of the gunship when the base is on its legs it shoots right through the base hitting the turrets underneath.
      In the first stage of the mission it cannot shoot through it wich makes it hard to destroy the turrets on the lower end but once thats over even if turrets remain you don’t feel them that much since most of the time you are underneath it to destroy it ;)

    Does the air raider have anything good for drop ships or do I have to take the limpet sniper? Or use a vehicle? (which means waiting). I thought spritefall might go through it like the base but while it does go through to the ground below, it does NOT hurt the drop ship itself.

      You're certainly much weaker, but luckily Depth Crawlers don't have a very high credit cost and they're rather good in this game. Defense/Attack buffs and turrets also help a lot, although you'll need a Limpet gun of some sort to last you at least long enough to get that first Depth Crawler. I think there was only one underground mission I struggled with, and abusing the Depth Crawler's ability to run away up walls is what let me beat it by constantly retreating. The spiders could follow, but their pathing wasn't good enough for ALL of them to do it successfully.

    @Krimstar Před 5 lety

    To me, Air Raider was always the wizard of the group, with fencer being knight, wing diver as elf, and ranger as hero. He has a unique resource to manage, huge damage spells, powerful summons, tons of situational utility, and can completely break the game at high levels or in the hands of a knowledgeable player. He has a tool for every single job, and every mission is a problem to be solved rather than a fight to be won.
    I do agree with you in that Phobos and Nix are just way too strong, but I am on the fence as to whether or not anything should be done about them. I think it is nice to have them for playing solo, then switching to other things when playing in a group, but I know people, myself included, will often pick the easiest loadout if it is available. I wouldn't be upset if they had their health and power reduced though as I tend to use other things instead, saving Phobos only for asshole hornets, and AR still has the tools and tricks to counteract those nerfs.
    There are two things I am surprised you didn't mention. The first is that you can now place bunkers on just about anything without them falling off. This is pretty important considering how much health they have, combined with guard posts, to make your vehicles into miniature Balams. Put them on helicopters! Put them on bikes! Put them on Fencers!
    The second thing is just how easy it is for AR to get into inferno since all of his inferno gear is scaled to deal with inferno conditions. All you need to do is clear one inferno mission to get vehicles with inferno health and damage and you are good to go, regardless of your ARs health. Place bunkers at the start, get points, summon inferno vehicle, and you can clear just about any inferno mission with only 1 health I bet. The first thing I did after clearing hard was to do a high level underground inferno mission. I forget which one exactly, either one with a ton of scripted spawns and ambushes or one with a bunch of anchors. With my terrible memory, they are probably the same mission. Anyway, that gave me all the stuff needed to go through inferno and completely skip the hardest health grind. Although, Even with my low health I don't remember it being too much of a problem as I could still take one or two hits before failing. I know it makes sense to be able to do inferno missions after getting inferno gear, especially high end inferno gear, but usually there's a fair bit of health farming involved, even for skilled players.
    Actually, a third thing to mention is just how strong AR is underground now. Having a third slot, flame turrets, smart roombas, auto reload, and beefier depth crawlers, it all combines to turn him into the absolute fire king of zone control and safety underground, dethroning the once-mighty lightning queen. Even that little shotgun can get some use down there since it will pierce and clot up tunnels with corpses. A turret would still be preferred in that slot, but it helps for when any reds/purples break through your firewall.
    I'd join your Naegling brigade anytime if I played online, maybe when the PC port is released.

    Well, your prayers have been answered I suppose, Air Raider has been nerfed to oblivion for EDF6. No Phobos, at all. No Nix either, you get a tonka truck instead.

  • @speedanime8499
    @speedanime8499 Před 5 lety

    Think about it now Kevin i think air raider became this way because of offline solo play.
    In 4.1 it was almost impossible to do some missions seeing the points cost reduction and the reload on some weapons it makes sense also the background reload on weapons.
    For some reason they didn’t take in consideration the effects it had on online play.

  • @acetraker1988
    @acetraker1988 Před rokem +1

    I highly disagree with your opinions and the logic you have on the nerfing part. Being unique is not an issue with a class or system. Just cause you want to "feel special" while playing should not be a valid reason for a change in the game. That kind of game design is cancer. Rewarding player agency is far better than nerfing a class into a one trick gimmick... Ergo play how you want to rather than trying to force everyone to play how you want to...

    If it's "too easy" for ya, here's a simple fix: go Solo while Online on Inferno with AR and don't use any DLC weapons or have Limits Off.
    Just saying "AR isn't a team player" and "is boring", literally lost all credibility at that point. AR helps so much in so many ways, can literally mow so much down without any effort. To me that helps, and that's literally being a team player.
    Again, if you want a challenge, do what I said earlier: Solo, Inferno, Online, AR, Limits On and no DLC weapons

    • @KevinEDF
      @KevinEDF  Před 4 lety

      I like to do this in my challenge run videos. I have limits on and lower my health sometimes. This can be pretty fun. I think if the nix wasn't so fast and strong it may make air raider a bit more balanced. But with the nix he is just as fast as the other classes with 100k health lol either way EDF 5 is a great game
