Well explained about how to go faster in the Ami. I don't think I would feel safe going much above the 28mph it was designed for but I expect there will be some people out there who are plotting to get the things to go faster and end up getting the Ami banned.

You think 28mph is safe on a 50mph (80km/u) road? I certainly don't. Some driver who isn't paying attention is going to slam into your back. Furthermore you're creating dangerous situations driving that slow and irritating other road users who drive normal speed. I would have it tuned the day i received it (it's very simple to do so); much safer that way.

Mister Me & Mister Boo & Elton a very very well explained vlog on the 28mph limit of the Citroen. 👍it wouldn't surprise me if someone hasn't already got something to increase the speed capacity 🤔tbh the part of the charm of the Ami is its low speed capabilities & it is a fantastic change from the usual 'I need to be somewhere like yesterday' brigade. 28mph is plenty fast enough given the design of the car & the younger generation who are allowed by law to drive it. Thanks again for another great vlog & looking forward to your further adventures in Elton👌

My Opel Rocks-E usually has the regenerative braking kick in at 71km on the range. It has waited till 65 once, but I guess it has a sensor to check how much energy you're using. Going downhill you wouldn't be using much, so it'll kick in later. I live in the flat Netherlands though. The biggest hills and valleys are viaducts!

First being that I believe the Roll-over potential increases with the square of velocity, and the Ami being a light vehicle with a short wheelbase, less than proficient steering inputs at higher speeds could end in an undesirable outcome. I;ll drop the designer of the Twizzy 'Power Box' (A performance tuner that plugs into the ODB port) a message to see if he has anything for the Ami.

Takes me back to restricting motorcycles in the late 70’s. 30mph was brought in for mopeds as we appeared to keep trying to kill ourselves doing exactly what you do in Le Ami 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.
Downhill with a chubby sixteener astride it the moped’s could all exceed their maximum legal speed quite considerably. Find a sixtyish British mske and I guarantee his eyes will mist over at the memory of it all.

I ride my old bicycle quite quickly (average 20mph) because I hate cycling and want every trip to end as soon as possible. (I do 70 miles per week, every week, and have done for almost the last 15 years.)
When I was a car driver I didn't like following a dawdling, dithering, wandering bike at 10mph, so I ride now as if I were following behind myself in a car. I keep close to the kerb so that nutters can still get past.
The Ami's top speed seems good enough for most daily drives. It's nice, though, on a bike, when the traffic's heavy, to be able to stop, get off, and leave the way clear for raging White Van Man, who always does 50 in a 20 zone.
It's difficult to move aside in an Ami, and as there's no tolerant 'sans permit' culture here in Britain, I'd be worried about being nudged into a ditch by Mr Angry (and his two mates and their pickaxe handles).
The fastest I've gone here [in Yorkshire] has been 47 mph, and that was quite fast enough. The thought of a wheel collapsing and my luscious squidgy bits sliding along the tarmac for 30 yards without the protection of a motorbike rider's leathers, gauntlets, and crash helmet makes me go all... unnecessary.😳
I imagine the Ami would cope pretty well with higher-than-designed speeds, but I'd be concerned about its stability on public roads; drifting across into the oncoming traffic at 70mph could really spoil your day.

Close to all sport scars here in Germany (i guess in other EU countries as well) are electronically limited to 250 km/h which should be fast enough for any practical purposes, but there are lots of small IT tuners which will just hack the software and take out this limit. The main problems are the tires, which of course are matched to the specification ex-factory. In general, it's a stupid idea to eliminate safety features.

BTW, my BMW i3s does a similar yet slightly more elaborate thing by automatically using the disc brakes to simulate the effect of regen braking when the battery is nearly fully charged. You notice that when touching the brake pedal and instead of the softer feel of regen braking the pedal feels much stiffer from the first inch of pedal travel.

For me it’s not even a higher top speed, but as you will have likely experienced at some point, some of the roads in and around Monaco can be quite steep, and the 45 twizy for example has at points just not wanted to get me up the hill…during rush hour 🤦🏼‍♂️ and of course driving up to la Turbie is also a little nicer if you have a little extra power. The Twizy 80 was great for that. Well, just ordered a Topolino, and there is a place near Nice that will “tune” it from 8 HP to 10 and 2 more Nm.

I have a Move Vigorous, its also an electric vehicle.
Also 2 seater, but more like a scooter with a roof kinda thing.
Carver in the Netherlands also makes a similar kind of vehicle, but it can hang in the corners, like a motorcycle would do.
    Anyway, same story here.
You can buy one of 2 types: one where you do need a license, and one where you dont need a license.
However: Both can travel 45 kilometers per hour.
And between the one i got, which is the license free variant, and the one where you do need a license, well, to be honest i have not yet found any differences between the 2. (talking about the Move Vigorous 1500 or something like that it was.)

The carver which i mentioned is also a nice design, and can hang over in corners. You can take corners with that one pretty fast. With mine you risk flipping over if you are not careful.
Anyways, i think you guys have a better system, this Ami. But i will only buy one if i can get it to drive a bit faster without too much hassle. It has to at least be able to go 60 kilometers an hour, so i can drive it safely on the roads over here. (people are very impatient in the Netherlands. so don't wanna create a traffic jam)

A speed limiter is present as well on the forthcoming Citroen Oli, the SUV companion and big brother to the Citroen Ami, which is set at 68 km.. The real reason for the limiter is safety and the Ami wasn’t designed with speed in mind. Of course, the other aspect is to save battery life, a must with any kind of EV. Now if that’s too confining for your needs and you want to drive faster, get a driver licence and drive a car. That’s the only sensible way of being a competent driver on the roads. If you’re happy with the limitations inherent to a quadricycle, then you’ll never need a licence. I have one for two reasons: a situation may arise when I have to drive and I also will need it for ID purposes, which is why people carry one. Anyway, a good review of what the Ami is capable of but I think folks who own one don’t want to push it at a speed they don’t feel comfortable going. Being safe is more desirable than going fast.

In the UK I'd not worry about going a little faster down a steep hill, the laws in France don't exactly match up with UK laws. In theory you can drive an Ami on a Full Moped licence in the UK, but Citroen's own insurance will not cover you unless you have a car licence (Ami store disclaimer to check you can get insurance). If you have a car licence then you are allowed to drive a much quicker vehicle anyway. Regarding safety of going faster than 28MPH, many things can go quicker including a bicycle down a steep hill, how sensible it is to try going as fast as possible down a twisting decent in an Ami is very different than letting gravity give it some extra speed on a straight road.

When I got my NIU NQI Sport EV moped, it has a top 2hp generated Bosch hub motor with 120Nm torque - it pulls like billy’o but restricted to 28-30mph. Due to its Field Operated Controller (FOC) the Asian market quickly, as they do, hacked it and it can do easily with its power 45-60mph. Now, like you said, it’s messing with everything legal. Insurance etc. it also messes with the battery (it’s not powerful enough to sustain the draw and it’s dangerous) the brakes are also dubious no doubt as the 125cc version has braking applied to both wheels with one lever on each side pressed front/rear. Then the big one. It’s tyres are rated at 30mph. That’s the first thing you must check is the sidewall letters. Faster tyres are heavier to maintain their shape at speed and not deform centrifugal rotation like slower tyres, heat and load bearing also comes into it, faster corners more load and friction. Then you have wheel diameter. The 125 versions have 14inch wheels, mine is 12inch. So there’s a lot to take in when messing with what it’s designed for.
Your Amy could become quite a handful at corners at higher speeds, I’m sure you’ve seen how easy it is to tip over? Brakes is (as has been mentioned by another poster) a serious issue. Heat buildup (braking at higher speeds) can cause brake fade on standard discs that are not ventilated. If that happens you will know all about it. The pedal will go to the floor with no braking power at all! Best get read y to use the handbrake and for gods sake DONT lock it on, keep the thumb button pressed in and use it like a horseshoe brake on a carriage apply slowly and release , apply, release don’t pull it full on otherwise it will lock on with the trailing shoe on the drum.
Or best just don’t go shooting down step hills faster than permitted 😉
