  • In This video, I show you how to configure your GPU fans using MSI afterburner.
This is a detailed guide that anyone should be able to follow. If your graphic's card is to loud or overheating, this is the video for you. This guide should help you to understand how FAN curves work for your GPU and for the rest of your PC.
Your fans for your GPU can be configured in a couple of ways:
Change GPU to Low RPM: Your Graphics card will Run quieter but this will result in higher temperatures and a risk of the card thermal throtling.
Change Graphics card to High RPM: The graphics card will be louder however you will have much lower temperatures on your graphics card.
Note: If your GPU fans are not spinning, this might be because the graphics card is faulty.

Just wanted to say thank you very much! I built my first PC a few months ago with an MSI 3080 gaming z and I was made aware about fan curves but wrote it off due to beginners fear of ruining something, but this is one of the few videos I have found that explains what we are tinkering with and how it is affected. This tutorial was easy to follow, thanks man good luck on the journey!

Just wanted to say if you check 'Use firmware control mode' the fan curve will be saved to your GPU if this supports it, that way you don't need to use MSI Afterburner at Windows startup or have it running in the background. Just verify the GPU fan keeps running at the same RPM after closing MSI Afterburner, you can just hear it.

In the fan curve the last point schould always be 100% fan power at the hottest temperature that you allow your gpu to reach. For me its 85*C and the lowest Point is so that the gpu has all fans off when im only use the Browser. So below 35*C all the gpu fans are off.

hi man. i´ve got one question. how do do to turn the middle fan on? or configure it ? i was checking my temps on my 3090 rog and it shows "GPU 39°C; Memory 48°C and HOT SPOT 45°C" while fans are like this FAN 1: 1000 RPM - FAN 2: 0 RPM and FAN 3: 1243 RPM.
How can i enable or configure the number 2 fan (i think it´s the heat disipation fan)

Hi. I have this issue where when I boot my PC the fans will run at 100% nonstop. Whenever I unistall the driver, it stops, but reinstalling it being either an older or newer version the fans star running again.
I tried using the afterburner, but it won't let me config the GPU fan...
So I don't know if I haven't done something that's on your video or if you would consider this method will work.
    Some specs are:
    RTX 2060 12gb
    Ryzen7 Pro 4750G
    Windows 10
I've had this GPU for roughly a year. Thanks and good day

you need to change the fan curve on the motherboard (BIOS) -> this is what is used until the msi afterburner app is running

before that i had a silent tower on maximum 70degree on highest settings ingame with 165hz... with your setup i have barely the same temperature and its loud like a jet engine...i watched about 30minutes and i can tell it was sometimes 3-5 degree colder!? dude thats not worth in the cards lifetime.. you just fuck up your gpu/cpu/chassie fan much faster than your card would die because it run on 70degree? or i get something wrong here?

Hi Sir, this is exactly what is explained in the video. You can have cooler temps but the card will be louder, or you can have hotter temperatures but the card will be quieter.

Got the same problem on my RTX3070 after 1,5 years. GPU is getting to 83 degrees. When hitting 84 the fans spike from 2900rpm to 4000rpm for a couple of seconds and then it's fine again for a minute. I figured out that if I downvolt my graphics card it stays cooler (just a little) with kinda same performance, but it's still pretty hot (over 80). I thought about replacing the thermal paste but I think I am not too confident because this card has thermal pads as well. Replacing thermal paste on my 970 was no problem tho... What do you think?

@@xaqlim ah I don’t know like when I boot up my pc it’s silent but after 10 minutes or so the fans start kicking in and then everything cranks up by itself even the wattage goes to 150 watts without using any programs or playing games, but when I do reinstall drivers on the GeForce experience it goes back to silent and everything goes back to 0%
