- This video is about Mike Icee replacing a blower motor in a W212 E350 because the fan is making noise and he is sick of the noise! You'll see a step by step DIY to know what's involved. Can the old unit be fixed? No, because the bearings are damaged and oiling them will only silence the squeaks for a month or so.

You directions were spot on and very clear. I probably saved hundreds of dollars at a dealership so thank you.
Thank you Gerald, LOL this video was three years ago. I'm glad it helped. I still have that E350 with 301K miles.
I have been trying to know how reliable this car is, because the one am trying to buy has 96k miles and has the same blower motor problem. I’m glad I found this video it really going to help me. Thanks you sir.
Mike, this video just made my day. I'm driving a W212 Bluetec 4Matic. 174,600 miles. Blower motor started to sound like a blown bearing. Now that I viewed your video my confidence just went strait up. Now, to buy a blower motor. Thanks,
Thanks! Clip on the old one was a pain to release, but I got it an my E350 is now once again equipped with a working fan. Having nice film of how things are supposed to work was very helpful.
I'm glad it was helpful
Thanks for posting this video. My air/heat quit blowing so I am going to replace the blower motor. One thing I am going to do different than your video is that I am going to test and make sure the blower motor works properly before I put my glove compartment area back together. I would be highly upset if I put everything back together and then tested it and it didn't work. Thanks for the great video, you're saving tons of people a lot of time and money.
you better make sure you the blower motor is back securely in the housing before trying it.
This was the best of several videos I found for this repair. Pulling that tab and twisting the unit at the same time was a bit rough because of the limited space.
Im glad the video helped you. Thank you for the comment and like.
Mike, Thanks for taking the time to make and publish this video. I have the cryptic manual pages from MB, with your video I am ready to replace the fan. Thanks again, well done
Just completed the replacement per your instructions, all went smoothly!
Thank you very much, just saved an easy $350 in labor!
Yo Mike! Thank you for the video. I’m currently out of town, my blower cut out on me. My mechanic is 1800 miles away. Your video save me getting ripped off. I did it myself and I’m not technically savvy. Thanks bro!
Right on LOL Glad it helped you!
I replaced my blower motor and now my air is working again. I'm so happy! Thanks for posting the helpful video!
You are a frigging Saint for these videos Mike! And pretty cool you are a fellow Washingtonian. (Puyallup here)
Just replaced mine. 23 minutes total including looking for the tools, the cable tie to replace the one I had to cut off. Super easy. Thanks Mike!
Nice work! Glad the video helped you!
Well done! Appreciate your help, I cleaned mine up, squirted silicone lube in both shaft bearings and it’s quiet as a church...30 minute job!
Thanks a ton! Saved me from a more expensive repair!
Tanks a lot for your hint about the secret tab (4:16)! Tried to removed the blower but without a success. Now I know why. 😀
All done thanks for taking your time to show the world how to replace it 🙏
Nice job! I have to replace mine now - thanks for the easy step by step instructions!
Thank you for your kind comment Eichert!
Of all of these videos on this I've seen I think yours was the best. Managed to break an electrical connection minor way but hopefully with the part I can find epoxy will fix it.
I couldn't figure out why the damn thing wouldn't budge and you mentioned that tab so I'll try that tomorrow.
Thanks!
You did an awesome job detailing granularly the task at hands. I'm ready to go for it! Thank you.
You can do it! Well... did you do it? LMAO
@@mikeicee Sure did, works like a champ! Thanks.
Amazing stuff! Can't wait for more videos!
Thanks for the advice. Worked perfect for me. Thank you very much!
Thank you so much man! I just replaced mine and your video was a big help!
Paul Wright glad it helped. That noise is too much!
Thanks for the details video. Helps a lot! Hope you have many more videos to help the community.
Yeah I have 2 more coming
Mike thanks buddy for the video, helped me change one today.
Battery and Front strut video coming soon!
Super helpful, most appreciated!
Thank you for the information....Just had service B completed and I think that something happened when they changed that cabin filter...E350 is making that same noise now....Now I know what the problem is, again thanks for the info.
Thanks for the video. it was a great help.
I wish I had watched yours instead of somebody else's. I managed to break a little plastic piece where that wire is supposed to slide in to the mount. Thumbs up for you
Thanks for helping me out.
Loved the video very intuitive
Glad you enjoyed it Mashell!
Can’t believe I found this. Dealer quoted me at $650!
Not as bad as $200 band aid in the ER. 🤣
Thanks. I'm going to do this when it warms up .
Darryl, thank you for watching!
I'm super stoked now after seeing this video! I got this. Thanks much.
Did you get it done? I know you had some issue with it.
@@mikeicee they sent 2012 model. Different connection. Sent it back.. Waiting on 2011 model any day now.
@@JCoz-hn8eo Did the connector look like round style instead of slots?
@@mikeicee yes, EXACTLY. Huge filter just came!
Thanks for the vid...it helped!
Thank you saved me so much
If you are also changing the cabin air filter there are two silver metal clips on each end of the filter bottom and housing. These will be removed with a screwdriver and discarded.
Thank you sensei
Thanks. The plugs into blower motor resistor btw.
Thank you
Welcome!
Very pedagogical and straight forward 10/10
Any idea why the blower motor might be really loud after replacement
Hey! Nice vid. Can you help me with the part number of the motor and does it come with the fan balanced?
Thanks a heap!!
Im glad it helped!
Where did you purchase your Behr blower motor from? I’m finding a large array of prices and I’m not sure who to buy from. Thanks for your input.
Do you have any info on diagnosis for assigning fault to the blower motor vs. regulator/resistor? My blower is starting to occasionally not work. Previously, it has been squeaking very faintly occasionally for a couple of years when very cold, a little louder when taking turns (I guess the fan acts like a gyroscope?). If I turn HVAC system off, then tap underneath the fan/resistor area, then turn the HVAC on again, the fan works again. So I'm thinking either there's some sort of relay in the regulator that's lazy (if it even has any), or the fan is binding just enough or in a position where the brushes maybe aren't making good contact. Plan is to remove the cover under the glove box, disconnect the motor plug and see if voltage to the motor is reliable and consistent (obviously changing with fan speed selected). If so, that would indicate the regulator is fine. Then I plan to apply voltage to the motor directly and see if it performs reliably. Anyway, is this a good plan to find the culprit? Sorry for the long post but trying to cover all the bases.
Be careful when applying voltage to the blower motor Because it will want to move around and dangerous for fingers.
Thanks for the video bro. I have the cricket in my AC vent. Now I know how to get him out!
I have a 2011 E350 Sedan. How can I tell what part number I need to order? Thanks
Mike, great video. Thank you!
B.U.
BU, Glad you enjoyed it! It was a longer video but I think it gives a realistic view of changing it.
@@mikeicee I was able to clean and lubricate my inop motor and reinstall. Time will tell if it was worth the effort, but this motor is a very robust piece of equipment (compared to my beloved GM cars' blower motors). I'm optimistic. Thanks again, Mike.
Thanks for this. They just told me to replace all that was going to be $1600 which is ridiculous. I can do it myself for less than half that.
Damn that’s a lot, I saved so much money just watching CZcams videos, I did my serpentine belt, tension pulley, hub bearing all my watching CZcams videos, easily saved myself 5k. I’m no mechanic by any means but some stuff to easy not to do yourself
Yea man you have to research some of these repairs because the want their profit margins and inflated labor cost a 50 dollar part cost 1000 dollars to install total BS at these dealerships
@@gordendavis3585 yeah I had to have my new ‘22 GLE350 sent in for repairs after being hit by some lolo in our neighborhood the insurance company didn’t want to pay their labor rates because they were so high… like $280/hr
Ugh. I thought for sure this was what I needed to do for the noise. But it’s coming from the dash. I was told to look at the aspiration fan. Heard/know anything about that?
Good video, would be even better if you stated the year of your car and if it is a 4Matic or not, though I suspect the blower is the same either way. Also a link to the place where you bought yours would be awesome too.
Thanks for the honest feedback. 4 Matic probably the same.
Hey, I have a 2014 E350 and the blower stopped a together but it all still turns on which is confusing.
Side note, how did you get a push start, mine only starts with the car. Is there an aftermarket I can grab one?
Perfect
Bless you for this video.
Well Thank you! I'm glad it help my brother!
Tried getting a local dealership to fix it and they said “just lube the fan” with no instructions or help. I figured it had to be more than a spray of some silicone lube and this is exactly what I needed. Do you know if it would be the same for a 2014?
@@A_Guy123 Yeah for the sedan, the E-Class coupe may differ because its built on C-Class sedan. I remember a lawsuit on that.
Perfect! Thank you again brother! You’re a savior to my wife’s ears! She was complaining so much lol
@@A_Guy123 If you gonna sell the car a drop of oil will silence it for 3-7 days LOL.
Thanks for the video, since replacing my blower motor and resistance my car only blows hot air.
Do you know why this could be happening?
Did you remember to plug the tiny air temp sensor that goes in the panel?
@@mikeicee yes I did now my new blower motor only runs for about 20 seconds before shutting off no cold air at all
Hey Nice video! i want to ask you? My blower motor dont work once and a While (totally dead, cant regulate) but when it work no noise at work (as it Should) is that problem maybe regulator or controlpanel? Fault code says “blowemotor malfunction” but it could be anything maybe? Please help!
I dont want to replace to a perfect working motor and Then a regulator...
Were there any screws holding the motor in?
Mine only squeaks with the heat running, not w the AC. Why is that?
So im getting this loud noise but when its out vent its also blowing on defrost outside the car. Only on high setting would this cause that
Hmmm... maybe remove the battery cover, and see what's happening while the car is parked.
Where can I buy the part?
In the US we have two choices for the Behr blower motor, one cost $300, the other $150. Did you buy the cheaper or more expensive one?
So I bought one from Rock Auto but the plug didn’t match so I returned it and bought one from the dealership. If that one ever fails I’ll probably buy a Behr from Pelican Parts.
@@mikeicee Thanks man, i ended up ordering the Continental one from RockAuto yesterday. Hopefully the plug matches.
Did you disconnected the battery or any electronic system to do this? Is it as easy as just unpug?
I just turned the car off, I did not disconnect the battery.
I'm working on my 2011 E350 right now. I'm having trouble twisting the motor out. More elbow grease??
No! It doesn't take much force. That tab locks it in place.
I'd say roughly the force to open a pickle jar that has already been opened at least once.
why didnt you test the fan was working when installed before you put the panel back on?
I bought it from Mercedes-Benz, and replaced it because it was making a noise.
What about heat not coming out of the blower?
I'm having the same problem on my w212.
Just curious - why'd you go with the genuine MB one as opposed to straight from BEHR?
house67 I did it because I feel sometimes the various companies cheat or adjust quality. If it goes bad I’ll get a Behr. I get 10-25% off at the dealership. I NEVER buy the dealership wiper blades because they go bad like clock work in 1 year.
@@mikeicee
1 year is actually very good. MB suggests changing them twice a year. In my experience, when I bought the OE Bosch Aerotwin blades they went bad much faster than the MB blades. Keep in mind wax on the windshield from car washes can often cause skipping/noisy wipers which we may not be worn blades after all.
@@shivraj67 My Valeo wiper blades have lasted like 4 years and work great! I remember on my W126 MB Dealer would sell you just motor, just brushes or entire blower unit! That was so nice! Oh, you can also remove the battery cover on the W212 from under the hood and it will let you see the blower motor in action!
I’m hoping this my issue, heat was working on an off, now A/C not blowing nothing , I’m hoping it’s the blower
it could be if it’s not blowing anything, the blower motor is not too difficult to test.
@@mikeicee this morning full blast then I shut it off tried again and got nothing. Idk what the hell going on

Has anyone had problems with their actuator letting the air blow through the vents? I’m 115K miles on mine and the blower fan is working properly, just no air through the vents.
Did you check if scroll wheel on vent isnt closed?
@@mikeicee yeah. Lol. All vents are open.
@@ronbarber6672 so they open, you manuals request center vents and hear blower motor but no air?
what year mercedes are you working on ??? I have a 2012 e350. Thanks
2011, most likely same blower.
@@mikeicee Thanks MIke
*2011 E350 sedan. These cars have a different blower depending if you have code 800 or don't have it. The units look pretty much identical but the electrical plugs are different. Mine has the blade style connectors while the other has the old fashioned circular connectors.
@@mikeicee Mike what the heck is "code 800" . My head is spinning.
@@mikeicee Got it. Yes I saw people complaining that the plugs don't fit. Great...uh how do I tell if i have a "code 800"?
Squeaky noise the one that you and me are going to make Mike :) wink wink
regulator??
Where is the regulator, in same location as blower motor on w212?
Okay...okay? Okay! Ok.
Si
BTW, dealer quoted me$1,065 for replacing. 👺😬🥴
Hope it all worked out for you! $1k special at the dealer?
Thank you
Welcome! Thank you too brother!
