    In this product review, we will have a closer look at two waterproof radios from Motorola.
    While we find a maximum range of 10 km (6.2 miles) listed on the package, in my opinion, such distances are only reached under optimal conditions (e.g. open line of sight).
    More realistic is to assume a shorter range, because houses, trees, and other obstacles can reduce the signal quality significantly.
    According to government regulation, PMR446 radios are not allowed to have a replaceable antenna, and can only transmit at a low output power of 0.5 watts.
    Because of this, it is perfectly normal that these radios perform best in close range communication.
    At first, a short range may seem like a disadvantage, but if you think about it, it also has advantages.
    In a city with many users, simultaneous transmissions on the same channel, are less likely if the radios only have a short range.
    The benefit, users are not constantly bothering each other on one of the 8-16 available PMR frequencies.
    In addition, the low output power extends battery life, and you can use the radios longer while consuming less power.
    Also, if your radio would transmit over longer distances, more people could listen in, which is also avoided by the weak transmission power. Because a potential eavesdropper would always have to be close enough to receive the signal.
    In my test, the communication quality was good, personally, I think the Motorola TLKR T92 is targeted at users who enjoy water sports.
    If you plan to use your radios in the US, please make sure to look at the FRS version instead, since PMR446 is primarily aimed at the European market.
    People in the US generally can benefit from a higher output power of up to 2 watts FRS, and 5 watts GMRS, please make sure to observe local laws and regulations in your country.

    Sounds OK and the performance and range seems reasonable. I’m getting a set for kayaking so anything more than 500m is a bonus that we probably won’t use. Range is never going to be as good as with the ham kit, but the use case here is to talk with my family and not other hams. Update: My set arrived today and they look very well put together and although they’re a bit bulky looking, it’s important to remember that the reason for that is protection and buoyancy.

    I have 6 of these radios for use in our aquarium, they're great bits of kit, however after about a years use 2 of them no longer charge, I've swapped out the batteries and know they are fine. I believe it is the charging port but I can find no info online about replacing the port. I have tried cleaning them with compressed air and a tooth pick but they still don't work

    this radio has a faulty design issue, I tested it in high mountains of the alps region, it suffer from high elevation and cold weather and humidity, the sound volume goes all mute hearing nothing when needed most, and battery drained as well, I've checked in the website where I purchased it only to my surprise my comments are the same from people whom faced similar results with their radios.

      Those radios are PMR446, they are designed for close range communication, for longer distances you need radios that have a higher output power.

    • @ReviewTechTV
      @ReviewTechTV  Před 5 lety +3

      For example,
      • PMR446 only 0,5 watt = very short range
      • FRS up to 2 watt = better range
      • Ham Radio 5~10 watt = best range

    • @ReviewTechTV
      @ReviewTechTV  Před 5 lety +1

      Those are other good radios:
      Retevis RT48 Waterproof (FRS = 2 watt)
      Retevis RT1 Not Waterproof (Ham Radio = 10 watt)
      Retevis RT29 Waterproof (Ham Radio = 10 watt)

    • @ReviewTechTV
      @ReviewTechTV  Před 5 lety +1

      Just keep in mind that every country has different laws on using radios, for example the low power PMR is mostly used in Europe, and FRS is mostly used in the United States.

    • @ReviewTechTV
      @ReviewTechTV  Před 5 lety +2

      For Ham Radio you often need an exam and registration with the government, also many radios can be programmed with a USB cable and software. Maybe you can figure out with frequencies people can use in Namibia… and reprogram one of the high power radios.

    is there any Motorola walkie talkie that can transmit up to 9 miles? If yes what are the necessary things to achieve that?

    • @ReviewTechTV
      @ReviewTechTV  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, Motorola offers walkie talkies that can transmit over significant distances, some claiming ranges of up to 9 miles or more under ideal conditions. However, it's essential to understand that the actual range you'll experience can vary widely depending on several factors such as:
      1. **Terrain**: Open, flat terrain allows for better transmission ranges compared to areas with many obstacles like buildings, hills, or dense foliage.
      2. **Obstructions**: Buildings, trees, and other obstructions can weaken or block radio signals, reducing effective range.
      3. **Power and Antenna**: Some Motorola walkie talkies come with higher power output options and better antennas, which can enhance range compared to basic models.
