About Etta May:
Etta May has performed her brand of clean-comedy on Oprah, Showtime, Comic Strip Live, MTV, and as a guest commentator on “CBS Sunday Morning,” Winner of the prestigious American Comedy Awards “Comic Of The Year,” and so much more. In addition, she headlines the successful all-female comedy tour, “Etta May and the Southern Fried Chicks,” selling out theatres all over the country. Think Blue Collar Comedy Tour with better hair and a bigger attitude! In addition to television, Etta May is a regular on Sirius-XM Comedy Channels and the syndicated Bob & Tom radio show.
Born and in Bald Knob, Arkansas, Etta May grew up alongside nine older brothers, who referred to their baby sister as “the human sacrifice.” Etta May’s parents - her father, a potpourri farmer, and her mother, bedridden by constant childbearing - didn’t realize she was a girl until she needed a training bra.

She met her husband, Delbert, an aspiring truck driver, at a friend’s kegger. From across the yard, their eyes locked in a loving look, you know that stare that lasts a moment too long. Nine months later, she was blessed with a boy, and three more kids followed. “That’s where my comedy comes from. I just wait for my husband or kids to do something stupid, and then I write it down.”
Before finding success as a stand-up comic, Etta wandered from dead-end job to dead-end job, including a 10-year stint as a school bus driver. She says she learned how to handle unruly kids by Armor-Alling the seats and slamming on the brakes all the way to school. Her theory: “Kind of hard to pick a fight with the kid in front of you when you’re just holding on for dear life.”
Then she decided to take a chance on herself and follow her dream. Lots of hard work and drive, and a few years later, she wins “Female Comic Of The Year” at the American Comedy Awards. It’s the American Story we are all told that you can become anything you set your mind to in this great country, and for Etta May, it worked!

DRYBAR comedy shows in Provo, Utah, has great but clean comedy shows. I wish I could make the 300mi. trip to take in those comedy shows but having to relocate to So. Utah to provide care for our elderly parents makes it impossible to take in the shows....at least for a few more years. Family first!

Even though I'm not American, Etta May's character is every woman I saw at Safeway growing up in the seventies.
As a southerner (Georgia) who moved to Australia, coming across this was such a breath of fresh air 😂 no profanity, just comedy derived from every day southern living. Bless your heart, sweetie ❤

I loved the 8 point buck comment about the hair. Back in the 70s my cousins from South Alabama had big hair in the form of Dolly Parton type wigs. One weekend we had a pool party at my cousin's house and drinking was involved. I was dating a Texan new to Ft Rucker. When they started tossing folks in the pool and girls started pulling off wigs, the poor guy freaked. All he could say is "does anyone have their own hair".
So funny. My Mama still has the same hair do! She goes through a whole can of hairspray a day. 🥰
In the 60s big hair got wrapped up in toilet paper every night to keep it pretty til the next trip to the beauty shop on Saturday.
We went through so much toilet paper and hair spray, it was figured into the weekly budget.

Omg Brandi, I met them after the show. If you look close at Skeeters right wrist, you will see a hospital tag. They had their tickets for a long time and then Skeeter got sick. Yet They were not going to miss the show for nothing! They were so thrilled to be a big part of the show. It made me believe in magic again. I was so thankful that I picked on him. I don't know how things finally turned out for that sweet man. All I know is he will live forever by being apart of the taping. It's so funny, I've had some KAREN'S Scold me for picking on them. I say to myself, "Oh Honey If You Only Knew What Was Really Happening!"

I noticed that wristband and I'm a nurse but I thought it was on for security to know where people should be sitting with color-coded bands or something. God forbid somebody in the nosebleed section sneaks down to the front row. It's a great and heartwarming story that you got to meet him and his family and make their night! It is true that laughter is the best medicine so you were a big help to Skeeter. I had a guy friend in high school named Skeeter and I don't know why we called him Skeeter but he was a really good guy. I'm glad to see more people are discovering your clean, hilarious humor. Keep it up and focus on how many people love you and ignore the haters.
My four kids and I grew up at the beach in Southern California. We left before that state before it went off the rails. We moved to Georgia and that was our first experience in the South. After high school, my youngest daughter was a sex trafficking missionary for three years in central and South America, and Asia. She met her future husband as he was a fellow member of the missionary team and he is from a little town just outside of Louisville, Kentucky, so my baby is in touch with the Kentucky people and they're going to make little Kentucky babies 😂❤

Not since Moms Mabley have I seen a woman comedian that uses her ethnicity, (white Southern lady) to cross that line that makes us realize that we are all the same. Whether she talks about children, husband, school, religion, work, home, we all share the same experiences. She is smart, witty and insightful. She does that by being funny. 😂😂🤩

I lived in SW Kansas when I was a kid and the console TV story was the one that made me lose it! My mom won a black and white console TV in 1959 from an AG store contest. We watched that TV for 14 years until 1973 when the folks moved to town and they got a little color set and put it right on top of the console TV. LOL

I was a movie producer in LA for over 20 years and was pretty successful - i am from VA and often got underestimated bc for some reason, our accent, equates "dumb" lol but like you, I used it to my advantage. I told him their shat wouldn't stink for about a week then one day there would be some hard round little turds so smelly he would puke. He looked at me so weird and Iaughed bc I really didn't know all that about raising kids. He came up to me a month later and told me how right I was...his kid shat the hard turds that morning and he gagged and puked. 😅

Hey Etta Mae, I didn't even get a pillow case for my candy at Halloween - just a Safeway paper grocery sack! One year it had rained and the grass was wet. Bottom of sack got wet and all my candy fell out of the bottom in someone's yard in the dark. No flashlight either! 😂
My uncle who was connected in our little town would do re-con to find out what everyone was giving out. He took me around in his little hillbilly cart (an old studebaker stripped to the frame and turned into a tractor) and we would only hit the houses giving out the good stuff. We would divide up our loot at the end of the night

Bill Engvall had her on a special a few years ago with other up and coming comedians. I'm glad she's still going strong. Underneath all that cover, I would bet she is a better than average looking woman. You go, girl!
