    • @HVHY7
      @HVHY7 Před 4 lety

      @delia ratcliff No! Why? Because it requires you to spend more and more of your GDP per year to afford it. Why is this, because it removes demand restrictions (unlimited demand) Why is this bad? because in the unfortunate event that you overuse the Healthcare system...you end up spending 60% of your GDP strictly on Healthcare that means less funding for everything else. So no I dont want the government to tax me for services Im not required to use and that others are too lazy to work to pay for.

    • @HVHY7
      @HVHY7 Před 4 lety

      @delia ratcliff Youre making my argument for me...in the event you need an expensive surgery (complex healthcare)...and you subsidize the cost (M4A)...and the government cant pay for it, because you have a 250% raise in Hospital demand for problems like the flu the common cold etc...then you dont get your hc because no doctor will be available for you.

      gtpk35 True, but that’s a gross simplification of our (Sweden’s) laws.
      Yes, we don’t have a minimum wage. But we also have really strong union laws, which give stronger negotiating rights to workers in a given field as a group, rather than as individuals. So while we don’t have a national minimum wage, we do have minimum wages within different fields of work that has been negotiated by their respective unions (a so called “working agreement”, that also includes stuff like working hours, raises, payment during sick leave, vacation etc). 90% of available jobs in Sweden have working agreements like this that applies to everybody in their field, even people just starting out. And yes, even at places like McDonalds.
      Unlike in the US, companies can’t bully us around. We have rights, and we have people who fight for and enforce those rights. So when people use Sweden as an example of a country that don’t have a minimum wage, they’re leaving out a large (and critical) piece of the puzzle.

    Here in Denmark, not only does people get a completely college education, but college students actually get paid for going to college. And it isn't meant as a handout, it's to ensure that the students can study without having to work a full time job, just to pay their bills. However, unless they wanna live in very poor conditions, or are lucky enough to have someone who can, and is willing to help them out financially. Then they will have to get a part time job, or get a lot of roommates to spit their living expenses with.
    Our government does this, because they understand, that well adjusted students, makes for a more proficient work force, after graduation. Which in turn strengthens our economy.
    You can't expect people to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, if they can't even afford to buy a pair of boots.

    • @NColinCorfixsen
      @NColinCorfixsen Před 6 lety +3

      Yeah, and I never have to worry about my health care. Our cops are well funded so they don't have to perform civil forfeiture. In general, our emergency serves and education system is well funded. Our cops are well trained, so I have no fear of calling them. Cause I know that no one will get assaulted or shot by them. You can only get that if you pay into the system. And in the end, we pay less then we would if we didn't pay as much taxes. But no, we don't pay 80% in taxes. Right at the moment, we pay a little over half of any money we make. To be specific, we pay 55.8% in taxes, which is 6.5% less then we did in 2008. So we've actually been pay less taxes over the last 10 years. And we're still going strong. I would never in my life, dream of immigrating to the US. I have nothing to gain from it, apart from a worse life.

    I live in Sweden. People are not leaving* our country to find jobs. We don't pay 100% taxes. Normal tax rate is 33%.
    I myself run a small company, with myself as the only employee, and my tax rate is closer to 49%. That's 16% extra for health care, school, police etc.
    My country is not perfect. But I'm never afraid of not getting health care etc. I know my children can go to college even if we aren't super rich. College is "free" (we all pay taxes for that). You actually GET PAID to go to college. Not much, but a few hundred bucks a month. I never went to college but i gladly pay my share for those who do. Why? Because when I get sick I know that I will be taken care of thanks to all the doctors that went to college. My children will have education for 12 years (and then college). We have excellent roads. Low crime (of course there is still crime to certain degree). etc.
    And if someone want to go abroad and work they can do that. We live in a free country with open boarders to the rest of the EU and to the rest of the world. We learn english from the age of 7 or 8 so we can communicate with others etc.
    Half of my family is Swedish and half is American. Both countries are great and both have flaws. Let's learn from each other.
    *of course people move around and take jobs in other countries some times but it's not like we immigrate to find jobs. ^^

      Taxation feels brutal but still nowhere near 100% income tax, even in the highest tax brackets.

    • @davez5418
      @davez5418 Před 6 lety

      Maybe Not Norway and other European nations are not socialist period. They have some social policies but that doesnt make them socialist countrys.
      What western Europe does to pay for their social programs is raising taxes on everyone to pay for those programs.
      At the same time they attract bussiness by keeping corporate taxes low and the country bussiness friendly.
      If the US wants to have such a society they have to cut military spending almost entirely and they have to raise taxes on everyone in the US.
      Trump got the corporate tax rate to median European levels but to attract even more bussiness he needs to slash those taxes even more.
      Prepare to see gas prices rise with at least fifty percent and the list goes on and on.
      That is the only way to pay for those massive increases in government spending. I dont believe the American people will ever be happy to pay almost half of their income on income taxes.

    One of the arguments I like to make with people that especially Republicans but don't want to change is this. The world is changing and times are changing if you don't change with them you're going to be left behind. Republicans by Nature being conservatives like they are and it's not an insult but they want to keep the status quo. They look to be safe. Unfortunately for them that's not going to be possible. you can't stop the world from moving forward. If you want to see a good example of people who did not want to change, wanted to keep things just the same look to the Middle East. At least that makes them think.
