Yes, the mention of Jogja in everyday life is true. In Jogja, you can visited Borobudur Temple and Prambanan Temple. Borobudur Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in the world. Prambanan Temple is the prettiest Hindu Temple.

Indonesia used to use dutch spelling. So back before 1972, "j" was pronounced "y" and the sound of "j" was written as "dj". So before 72, Jakarta was writen as "Djakarta". But seemingly, as the change of spelling system happened it confused people. This happened also in many aspects in indonesia, i had an old lecturer named Judjono (writen form) back in my unis time..the students called him Sir. "Jujono" but it was supposed to sound "Yujono". Likewise, Yogyakarta was previously writen "Jogjakarta" in the dutch spelling system. After the switch of the spelling, most people pronounce it "jogja" although it should be "yogya". Nevertheless both ways are completely fine, people can easily understand.

I just found your channel, and like it. My wife is from Malang, and I plan to retire there from the U.S. soon. I have also been to Jogya, and one of the things I think that contrasts it from other cities in Indonesia, is it is cleaner and a little more pedestrian friendly. Having special status in Indonesia, and the home of the sultan you would expect that to be the case.
I have also been to Borobudur, I thought it was amazing from a history perspective, however my wife thinks we were overcharged, because I am a Bule. I also thought it was excessively hot, even for Indonesia. I think all of the black stone of the temple creates a heat island effect.
Well keep enjoying your travels throughout Indonesia. Stay safe and stay well.

FYI, at the time of this writing, Jogja is in PPKM mode. basically means it's in local micro lockdown due to surge of covid-19. most of tourist destinations are probably closed. you should call them first before visiting to ask if they open or not.
Same situation for shopping centers/malls. Most of its non-essential tenants are closed; clothing stores, arcades, playgrounds, etc. The only ones that open are restaurants (for takeaway only or delivery), pharmacy, supermarkets, and ATM machines.
So it's not the most convenient time but nevertheless we hope you enjoy your stay and make the most out of it. Stay safe 😀

Yes! It was lovely, booking online was not possible because they didn't accept credit cards, only local debit cards
