      it's a pretty neat little strap. Peak design also has a new one in Kickstarter that looks cool.

    I bought this setup, on your recommendation, for some upcoming family trips. I’ve been wanting the Fujifilm x100v but it’s been out of stock forever so I am giving this setup a try. I really like the 24 mm macro! Still getting used to the crop sensor, and I wish it was a little more compact overall, but I’m happy that I can use all the same Canon batteries and I know my way around the menus. I have been putting it on aperture priority and letting my kids use it, so that’s fun. I’m thinking about unloading my full frame backup camera (I’ve literally never required a backup camera in over 10 years) and using my new r7 as a backup instead, why not? Thanks for the recommendation! Now I just have to learn how to shoot and edit video with it…

      My 8 year old and 5 year old love to runaround and take photos with it. Makes my dad heart happy :) enjoy and. Heck back in to let me know how it goes!

      @@GaryHughesOfficial my kids figured out that you can flip the screen around and take extreme close-up selfies, so I have 100+ silly face photos to sort through. 🤦‍♀️ I’m thinking about making the selfies into some creative wall art so I can see how they look in print. I’ll report back!

    I've got that peak design strap that I swap between the Fuji X-T2 and XH2. Love it!
    For travelling light, I still love the now long in the tooth X-T2 paired with the great little Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 (eq to 27-75mm). For a bag mines some thing that I grabbed in a quick rush through a camera store one day. Not awesome, but fine.
    Being an older mirrorless, I tend to also throw about 3 extra batteries in the bag. Good thing they're small.

      you know what? I actually stopped traveling with a charger! I use the USB-C port to charge the camera while on the road now. Such a weird change from pro work.

      @@GaryHughesOfficial That's where the newer gear like the Canon R7 holds advantages over older gear. In longer trips I add a little charger for the X-T2 batteries. More devices being standardized around USB-C is fantastic.
      I'd love to upgrade the XT2 to Fuji X-S20 as a X-H2 backup and new personal camera (nicer evf, ibis etc)

      yes, fuji is doing some very cool things with their lineup, for sure

    It was great to hear your thoughts and tips great stuff particularly as the R7 is the camera I'm aiming to upgrade to after 9 years squeezing the max out of my Canon 700D. Im tempted by the R8 for the full frame - but due to budget I cant splash out on a new set of lenses and my understanding is that the R7 with adaptor will work great with my budget EF and EF-S lenses -

    • @GaryHughesOfficial
      @GaryHughesOfficial  Před rokem +2

      For my money, I would take the R7 over the R8 any day. Image stabilizer, more tactile controls, better grip, no contest. Unless you need a really small camera or plan to shoot a lot past ISO 3200, the R7 is a better camera in almost every way.

    How do you trigger the Godox lights with your light meter. Thanks

      I don’t. I hold the trigger in one hand and the light meter in the other :)

    Hey Gary, would the R7 make a good headshot camera?

    • @GaryHughesOfficial
      @GaryHughesOfficial  Před rokem +2

      yes absolutely. The biggest hang up might be what lens you like to use. That cropped sensor would make the 70-200 a 110-350 essentially which would be way too much for a lot of spaces. The 24-70 or 24-105 would be a great headshot lens on this camera.
