Richards’ tele usually sounds different than other guitars because he often removes the lowest (E) string from his guitar, playing with only five strings. That makes his guitar sound a touch thin, but allows the band’s bass guitar stand out more.
My thoughts are that the Gibson sounds more like the original recording, which is a great classic sound. The PRS sounds great too just a little different than the original. The Telecast also sounds great, just like a Tele should. I would say I like the Gibson best on this song because it closest to the original.

Depends on what it is, some things are total hype and others are critical. A good amp/amp sim, pedals, cables, and the speaker/speaker sims is probably the most important thing in a good guitar tone. Haha. But, besides that, pickups are important, and then build quality and are playability. I’m totally fine with a squire if the pickups are good/replaced and it hits those marks, it just totally depends, but most guitars nowadays are pretty solid as long as you don’t go bottom of the barrel. Although, if you’re a beginner, then anything that isn’t shaped super weird and doesn’t give you bad playing habits is good. Most everyone starts with that horrible practice amp and cheap guitar.
@@magicmark3309 you're forgetting the most important part, having the guitar properly set up. With fret levelling and a proper clean and set up, even the cheapest of guitars will sing.
@@fredzep01 well, proper set up should go for every guitar. Maintenance and setup is one of those things that I believe everyone should be doing. Strings are also another important part, but I include that in proper maintenance and setup. As far as fret leveling and such. It can for sure make a cheap guitar way better, but there’s only so much you can do. Electronics and pickups will make the biggest difference sound wise. I personally used to love cheap, hard to play guitars, that I could put better pickups in, but there’s a real limit to how much better they will be compared to starting off with a good guitar that already has a nice neck and fret job to begin with.
Apples and Oranges. There isn't a better choice. Just preference for your ear palette. That PRS sounds pretty soft and warm and crunchy. I prefer that kinda hum.

@zombiefrogg8542 fender actually made high gain pickups specifically for telecaster and they sound great! I run 2 teles and a les paul for gigs. One tele and the gibson have stock pickups/humbuckers, the other tele I dropped some twisted tele pickups in it and it screams almost as good as the les paul. The other tele I mainly play clean or with minimal dirt. But yeah in general teles are just OK with the high gain pedals and amps unless you swap pickups or drop a humbucker on the bridge.
Reading the comments I can conclude we all have our own opinion. I don't know which guitar was used on the original recording, all I can say the vocals and accompanying instruments made this a great song . If I saw the band perform this today at 3bdiffernet concerts and they used one of each per concert all I care about is the guitar was in tune.
I have a Tele Deluxe and a regular Tele, but I need a Les Paul. These guitars all sounded very close honestly, and normally there's a lot more variation between a Les Paul and a Tele.
Which breaks up the most when you dig in. Some guitars are more touch sensitive than others. But dig in at the end harder and the pickup voice will sustain harder.

That depends on a lot of factors. EVH would disagree. A Les Paul with P-90s is a beast and has its place. But it will never sound like Brian May's Red Special, Yngwie's Strat, or Steve Vai's Ibanez Jem.
