It's a real shame that the timing of this episode is massively overshadowing its content, because that interview with Elle Reeve is genuinely one of the most interesting Offline interviews I can remember. Really fascinating stuff, I'd never thought about those differences between old school skinheads and the digital alt-right before, and how it might impact their wider movement. I hope people don't just discard this episode as 'already outdated' and give it a proper chance.
That being said, I feel like just adding a brief disclaimer to the opening of the video would have worked very well. I know there's one in your comments, but a lot of people won't ever read that comment whereas everyone would have seen a start-of-video disclaimer.

We care very much. But we’re not hearing anything about a plausible path to replacement that is any less full of risk than keeping Biden at this point.

    • @jmhorange
      @jmhorange Před měsícem

Good, now you know how the other side feels when we are accused of not caring because we want Biden replaced. We were told we don't care when we said he should have been replaced before the primaries started. By the way, Trump just had an assassination attempt against him. He moved like a young man and raised his fist up in defiance as he was led away by the Secret Service. The AP took an iconic photo of Trump lifting his fist behind the American flag. Even as someone who's not a fan of Trump, he looked Presidential in that moment. His poll numbers are going up.
But I guess we are going to stick with old man Joe. I'm sure a guy who can barely get thru speeches is going to beat a guy who risked his life to run for President.

I listen and trust people in both sides of the "Should Biden stay or go?" and did watch the entire debate. I've been back and forth. The debate really threw me for a loop, but I've finally decided that I'm staying with Biden. The debate was horrendous and I didn't like that, when on Morning Joe, he used audio only. I would have preferred seeing him live. The Zelensky/Putin and Harris/Trump gaffs did not bother me as much. Gaffs are not unusual for him. I've come to my conclusion that a convention decision would be less than helpful and that I will stay with the incumbent. Harris will be there to back him up and take over if it becomes necessary. It is imperative that Trump is defeated. My major concern now is that Trump will or has already said that Democrats sent the shooter and that now Magas will take that as orders to get retribution.

i love you guys but you didn’t just talk about what you saw, toy talked about what we should do before checking in with the grassroots of our party. maybe you missed this - The latest numbers from PBS/NPR/Marist polls actually show that Mr. Biden is now leading former President Trump 50 to 48 in a head-to-head matchup. When third parties, however, are factored in, he slips slightly, but it's still a statistical dead heat there, with Trump at 43 percent, Biden at 42.- 2 days ago

I'm so fascinated for the people who say we need to drop Biden to provide a even slightly realistic play by play of what that process would look like and how the democrats would be able to decide on and unite behind another candidate in time for the deomacratic convention.
It's no good prioritising getting rid of Biden if the rest of you plan is based on vibes and magical thinking.
I honestly think so many democrats looking down the barrel of fascism in America have just lost their minds with fear.
If you want a candidate that can assure you, things will be fine tough. That candidate does not exist.
People like me get very frustrated at those who want Biden out not out of some strange loyalty or tribe behaviour (but thanks for that patronising dismissal) it's because there is no realistic plan as to how to do it and then resolve it without handing the election to trump.
You'd make lousy doctors, if you can't help then the least you can do is no harm.

You can criticise Biden all you'd like, go nuts. But that doesn't insulate you from criticism that your goal is to overturn an election and force out the candidate that millions and millions of people showed up to vote for. Nor does it make your idea of replacing him with *just 29 days* between the convention where a new candidate would be picked and early voting starting, any less impossible.
Joe Biden is insanely old, and literally everybody knows that. Every single person who showed up in the primary, and checked off Biden's name instead of Phillips or anyone else knew he was old, that is not new information to anyone. But you seem to think you're just going to be able to insult the rest of us into getting your forcing your way. It's not "speaking truths", it's just the same 'burn it all down, consequences be damned', attitude that Trump and his supporters have been pushing for nearly a decade now.

Yeah, obviously some white nationalists have a 100%-English cultural heritage, but they’re still happy to ignore that most of their compatriots don’t, in order to support the fiction that “white” isn’t an invented grouping and has a distinct cultural heritage that is so broad and ecumenical it can include basically all of Europe, the US and Canada, and Australia and New Zealand, yet also so specific and narrowly drawn that people who’ve lived in those societies for centuries or millennia aren’t part of it.

That is partly because the idea freedom from governmental interference with speech always had an inherent contradiction. It is no big deal to protect fringe speech that is not very effective. It is when it is effective that then the government often finds an exception applies that lets it intervene. But the philosophy and scholarship has (to my mind) always been caught short or flat-footed in trying to deal with speech by powerful nongovernmental entities-like advertisers or the Heritage Foundation.

The idea that people who come from Mexico City vs. people who come from Anglo-Saxon countries have different cultures isn't racist at all, that's what culture _is._ The difference is whether you think it's good or bad that different cultures mix together, whether one _pollutes_ another or they _enhance_ each other.
The idea that culture is passed down genetically, though, is obviously stupid _(and presumably racist since the racists seem to believe it)._ People who think culture works like that must never have met a white person who grew up in a black neighborhood or an American who grew up in Japan or the UK or South Africa. Culture is place and people and what they do and how they act.
The whole discussion of "culture" and whether one is superior to the other _(and the neo-Nazi assumption that white "culture" is the best)_ reminds me of my favorite Teddy Roosevelt quote: "Comparison is the thief of joy." One culture doesn't need to be "better" than another. They can all be good and valuable and amazing in their own ways. The one you grew up with will probably mean the most to you, but other cultures are great too. Nobody needs to defend the "white race", or "Western European culture" or any of that BS. We can just enjoy what we have and what other people contribute.
