  • A doctor has spent almost £70,000 building a replica of one of Germany's deadliest fighter-aircraft, the Fokker Dreidecker.
Peter Brueggemann, 53, is in the eighth year of his painstaking project and hopes to take to the skies once his scarlet triplane passes safety tests.

I saw a full hour documentary on Amazon on the building of this aircraft. Quite a labor of love.

Agreed. This may be an precise replica, but it far from the best-looking.

Absolutely. Without the rotary Oberursel and its unique look and movement, the plane has a lack of personality.

pity it is not chosen the best aircraft of the war, the SPAD.
Especially since the spad was also the plane of the 4 best aces of the war all countries combined.
The French hard scoring system being truncated compared to the other country because otherwise, the true 4 first aces of the war would be French, the red baron Richthofen only coming in fifth position .....
    1-RENE FONCK :127 Victories
    2-GEORGES MADON: 105 Victories
    3-RENE DORMES: 94 Victories
    4-GEORGES GUYNEMER: 88 Victories
    5-MANFRED von RICHTHOFEN: 83 Victories

Actually, the Fokker DVII was a much more capable and deadly fighter and the only one mentioned in the Treaty of Versailles. The DrI was a good dogfighter but was pulled from the front in 1918 because it was too slow.
