Canuck's Soucy Hit On Oiler's McDavid Is A Suspension, Re-visiting Leaf's Rielly Hit, Refs Just Bad

- A look at the double hit on the Edmonton Oiler's Connor McDavid from the Vancouver Canuck's Nikita Zadorov and more importantly Carson Soucy's cross check to McDavid's head. This is a suspension, no doubt, but how much will the NHL dish out? How much are they willing to dish out? Or, will the NHL apply its flawed Playoff logic to this all?
I also talk about what Soucy should get, vs what I think he will get in terms of a suspension.
Plus a look back at what has anyone learned from the Toronto Maple Leaf's Morgan Rielly Hit on the Ottawa Senators Ridly Greig.

What video did you watch? Soucy deserves 20 games and Hyman is not even mentioned? Talk about hypocrisy! Protect the star who escalated the situation with his two handed slash but a second or third pair defenceman is expendable? How about McDavid, Soucy and Zadorov get fines and Hyman gets 20 games since his was the only intentional head shot and the only one that caused an injury.
How about Hyman's crosscheck to Zadorov which required stitches? Saw McDavid interview after game, no sign of damage. Soucy's was retaliation for McDavid's two handed slash and only hit the head because he was falling after Zadorov crosschecked him. Hyman's crosscheck was intentionally at the head and you don't even mention it?
Doug, thanks for watching and the comments. All great points in their own context. Of course I could mention every head shot and every infraction, but then my 5 minute video would be 30 minutes. Look, substitute anyone you'd like for McDavid. My point isn't so much the player (and you can go back to a video I made a couple of months ago about Morgan Rielly on Ridly Greig. My point, my focus is head shots or cross checks to the face in general and the lack of accountability from the NHL. As fans of one team or another we all see what we want to see, but at the 50,000 ft level... it doesn't matter which player we use as an example... head shots need greater consequences. @@thecoachscall thanks for responding but the Hyman deliberate head shot was just seconds after Soucy's unintentional head shot so no need to mention every headshot, just don't ignore one that was part of the same incident like the league did
Two sets of rules for sure. Let’s see if Kane gets a suspension for cross checking Myers in the face.
If he does, he should because it's a legitimate NHL path to fixing their rules, not because it's meant to even anything out.
@@thecoachscall Where did I say to even anything out?? I’m tired of the two tiers of rules for and against certain players. Where is your same energy about that cross check?? It was blatant. Myers is 6’8”. Kane was clearly aiming for his head and he got it. But don’t touch mcdavid….
@@gordvickers348Gord, me thinks you’re looking for a fight where there isn’t one. McDavid is just an example I used, just like I used Rielly a couple months back. I don’t do a video on every idiotic head shot. I’ve got no skin in the game for any one given player. There was nothing personal in my acknowledgement reply to you, but there was my view about how the league operates. Any way, thanks for dropping by and the comments. Gimme a break. 6 on 5 hockey with seconds on the clock in a playoff game??? And a guy with no history of nastiness. Plus Zadorov’s hit put his head in scoring position.

I had it right, that he would get 1 game in the playoffs. I still think if head shots need to vanish from the game that it needs more serious discipline.

My view is that I've seen baseball swings with hockey sticks and this was not a Babe Ruth to the rafters by any stretch of the imagination. A penalty, yes. Should any play swing their stick in any capacity? No. Whatever the degree of the McDavid slash, a crosscheck to the face (hit to the head) is on a different level.
@@thecoachscall go pause the video at the top of the windup for the slash it’s a full on baseball swing I have a screen shot of it. Hands fingers wrists anckles all break with swings like that. Just like jaws can break from cross checks. Also hyman cross checks big Z in the head right after but no oilers fans want to talk about that.
I guess oilers fans forget that Leon had his wrist messed up vs Vegas with that same type of slash mcdaivd did last night.
20 games? Thats too much. Mcdavid is fine. I think 1 game is good. So Mcdavid shouldve got 20games for highsticking hughes?

I think because of the other missed calls, that could have been suspension, particularly Hyman on Zadarov FOR STICHES, seconds after. (Ie same cross check to the face situation) No games should have been assigned.
If you're punishing one you should be punishing BOTH.
Your review is not...smart...not smart at all. Soucy has no history, and the head contact was unintentional. (Wouldn't have happened if not for Zadorov) No way this needs 20 games🤦♂️...If a guy two handed slashed me, I'd go after him too - and He'd deserve it!
Hi Dallas, thanks for your comments and for dropping by. While I only focused on McDavid, if you've watched any of my other segments, I've consistently said shots to the head should have stronger punishment than what the NHL hands out. That hasn't changed, otherwise, we will keep having the same discussion over and over.

@@oliver-ci2ke You're probably right (see my comments that Refs suck!). Still, even without the penalty being called, I don't think we need an NHL with headshots. But, you're bang on in terms of the penalties... honestly, they've called things they shouldn't and vice versa. Some people will say it all balances out. I think it causes issues like this, where players try to "police" themselves.

Speaking as a Canucks fan here. Although I hope they win the series, I do have to say that kind of violence against one of the NHL's best players is wrong. McDavid is not completely innocent, but Zadorov and Soucy took things too far. Hope McDavid is okay.
The crosscheck to the face was a result of mcdavid falling at the same instant the nuck player was going to crosscheck/push McDavid. That’s unfortunate. So I see a game for it. But mcdavid needs to take responsibility for his own actions. (He won’t) BUT If not for mcdavid acting like a little slashy whiner….he wouldn’t have gotten a crosscheck to the face. That’s just a fact.
