Back in 1981 I spent 3 weeks in Olympos, the village in Karpathos. We spent evenings in the taverna listening to and dancing to this music, as well as some private gatherings of the villagers. The island postman, who was an exceptional singer, used to stay overnight in the village and he played the lira and sang beautifully. He had a group called The Eagles of Karpathos. I still have the cassette he sold us.
the song at the beggining is called Panw xoros or in greek language Πανω Χορος. If you look in youtube you will find many videos with πανω χορος. many greetings from Olympos Karpathos!!!
Probably he wants to say that back in that time, when Greeks referred to other nations, they mention to them as Barbarians, but the meaning was not exactly the same as today. Of course there ware great civilizations at the same time and before.
