I dedicate this to one of my closest friends, who commited suicide a few weeks after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I respect your decision, Jason, but god damn do I miss your goofy ass. Happy hour just isn't the same without you. :'(
Just noticed this. If you listen really closely in the first half second or so, there is a hearbeat like sound. This is from the end of unbound, which comes before it in the self titled album. If you listen to the album on a cd player, they seamlessly transition and it's beautiful. Another reason why I love this band :)
Every time I listen to this song I think of the unreleased version and how much it speaks for what The Rev was going through. For those of you who don't know, the intro USED to have two extra lines between the main lyrics. Shadows: "Doc," Rev: "I'm crying out louder and louder." Shadows: "I'm dying." Rev: "But nobody can hear my scream" I remember hearing this before The Rev died and just thinking it was rad and wishing they kept it. But when I think back now, and knowing exactly what The Rev was going through, the fact that the lyrics AREN'T in the song makes the lyrics true. You know what I mean? It played out like a designed, destined tragedy. For those of you who have never heard the song this way, just watch A7X's Making Of Brompton Cocktail. It's in that DVD, and the clip should still be on CZcams.
''I wanna meet my maker in piece, I wanna feel alive again, so put that smile back on my face, and mix it strong, my friend'' is my favourite part of any A7X song. I wish The Rev could be here, not having to consider his death.
Michael Mitchell I'm sorry but he did it becuase if his inlarged heart(you probably know that) but it was causing "The Rev" so much pain he could not take it...I know he let everyone down but still his heart was so big because it was full of love ❤️ so don't be triggered on my please...I was just saying all of this BEA uses I'm a big fan of a7x that stupid 11 year old that absolutely loves metal and rock but I hope you had a good day my good sir and R.I.P Jimmy-"The Rev"-Sullivan...he will still be out there somewhere in our hearts...btw I used to hate a7x but now I cry almost every night becuase The Rev died soo have a good one bye!!
Lord Daisuke Toxicology Report said he died from a mixture of Percocet, a metabolite of Percocet, Valium, a metabolite of valium, and alcohol. This song came first. Then when he secretly wrote his suicide note, which became the song "Death" for the Nightmare album, and was later changed to "Fiction" after he died. Rev committed suicide. And seems like he'd been planning it for a while with that song, and this one. My opinion of course but still seems pretty fucken spot on.
The Rev would've not lived older than 30 anyway because enlarged heart. and it would've been a painful death so he decided to die painlessly and peacefully.
I love all of their songs....R.I.P. Jimmy ''the rev'' Sullivan, one day you'll come back from the woods as the best knife master ever and we'll all be here to see it.
I have a ritual of listening to this song literally 50 times every day. I have been doing this since Jimmy died. And I plan on doing it for a long time to come. Rock In Peace Jimmy The Rev Sullivan. Love you, brother.
This is obviously about the Rev because he drank a brompton cocktail before they found him, and took further support this, the song begins with a heartbeat. Jimmy had an enlarged heart. Rest in peace bro
I believe it WAS about him. Usually people think MOST songs are about him, which I find faulty, but this I strongly believe is about him, regardless of when it was published. Yes this song came first, but remember he knew he was dying HENCE in the song, it says basically its his life, he shall choose how to go. As CoolCat said, the beginning has that heartbeat, which I always picked up on although not too many hear it, and the fact this is about a Brompton Cocktail, which is what he consumed. Also note he sings a large part of it, which would be normal for someone to talk more action in a song if it was your own creation or it if reflected you. Honestly to me it really doesn't make too much difference what its about, I enjoy the amazing work they've always done, just figured I'd help in an argument and really it doesn't change the fact this is a badass song, like most of their stuff! Enjoy the music, have a nice day, and continue to listen to Avenged Sevenfold forever! ^~^
I do not like spamming just as much as you do, however make yourself a favor give it a shot *watch?v=fKTYND_4x2U* Just isn't it great? Be sure you check out the video URL
***** Jimmy wrote the song. The song does change a little in your mind when you know what its about, because you know the reason he wrote it. Whereas if you didnt know, you'd just think of it as another Avenged Sevenfold song. But all in all its a great song
Just saying, this song is in their self-titled album. Which was released a long time before the rev died (during the creation of nightmare). It could have been his plan, but it is too early to tell. RIP Jimmy foREVer
The reason there is heartbeats is because the rev had an enlarged heart and he said he wouldn't live past thirty and brompton cocktail is a mix of drugs and alcohol that the rev used so he didn't have to feel the pain on the day his heart would stop forever... so he could die peacefully. Very true....
Wus_Poppin_Slimbo_Jimbo Oof Also because of his enlarged heart if he had taken the Brompton cocktail he would have died rather quickly. Brompton cocktails are used in the UK for terminally ill patients who are in unbearable pain, and are on their last few days of life.
I lost my final fight to disease.. I feel that this where it ends.. I need that shot to enter my vein.. My brompton cocktail blend Cos I can't feel my face.. I won't struggle on in a world so cold.. In a world so wrong.. I'm not running away been fighting this so long.. Such a price that we pay we gotta be so strong, in a lie..
I remember when the first time i heard this song exactly when i was senior high school in 2009 ,now i have a cute lil daughter. dammit where the time goes?
Suffering, we'll never know what suffering means and feels like until we're in that position, the position of suffering. _I'm not running away, been fighting this so long_
This song is about a terminally ill patient wanting to finally die of lethal injection: "Doc, I'm dying, I feel compromised," "I want that shot to enter my veins." A Brompton Cocktail mix is morphine, heroine, cocaine and some other ingredients they give to terminally ill patients to ease pain. So that's the core definition of the song, however I believe at their (much less literal) essence the lyrics really speak to figuring out an alternative, civilized means of putting an end to any kind of long term disabling, inhumane type situation.
This album is still one of my favourite albums ever, it's literally the soundtrack of my teenage years, the fact that I used to listen to this song so much and think nothing of the words, when it seems like all the while it was a scream for help is a weird feeling
I just found out that Unbound (The Wild Ride) and this song are linked musically, just listen to the end of Unbound and you'll hear a slight heartbeat, and if you listen closely at the beginning of Brompton Cocktail you'll hear the same heartbeat. The two songs are played back to back in the album, so it seems like one long song
Scary how this is almost like fiction in which it’s kinda foreshadowing Jimmy’s passing. You can especially think that’s true if you know what a brompton cocktail actually is….
I love this song, despite the depressing nature and background for it and the events that followed. I hope they start doing the original opening at concerts, with maybe a friend they all knew who went through something similar? It'd really hit home, and, also, I think may possibly be a way to honor and remember Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan.
My cousin recently died from a heroine overdose. We were really close growing up, and we drifted apart as we got older and got into drugs. I realize It could have just as easily been him going to my funeral instead of me going to his. I understand why he went out the way he did. This world is cold and living day to day fighting addiction is hard.. R.I.P. to anyone who's been taken from this world too soon..

The Rev made a lot of songs about death! Such as afterlife, a little piece of heaven, brompton cocktail, almost easy and brompton cocktail. Didn't the band like noticed it?
Hello there! I'm Matt from Poland. Brompton Cocktail is one of this song which I never hear in my life. Like Iron Maiden - From Hear to Eternity. Like Atreyu - Ex's and Oh'. But everything knows that - This song is fuckin' awesome!
this song was musically wrote by the rev but lyrically wrote by m shadows, basically the rev had the idea of this song. but matt wrote some lyrics. good job to both. luv u rev...so talented foREVer xx
Omg I miss him so much such an amazing drummer amazing person I love him such an amazing song omg the truth is so cold the rev I love you r i p the rev love you I hope you find a peace in the afterlife

just saying your user name matches the name of the song ( just saying )

Cool!
Slipknot has done that lots with their new album too, I like it!
A day to remember does it with 3 of the songs on their album Common Courtesy
But is there a Second Heartbeat?
travis provence actually there are two heartbeats, so yeah
I got not clue why I thought about this song when Chester died hope he's with Rev rocking the heavens

Jimmy didn't commit suicide....? Lol, he died of an overdose of like xanax, some other drugs and alcohol.
Lord Daisuke yeah he purposely done it he had a Brompton cocktail google it it's a thing that u drink nd it's kills u
Lord Daisuke Toxicology Report said he died from a mixture of Percocet, a metabolite of Percocet, Valium, a metabolite of valium, and alcohol. This song came first. WE LOVE YOU THE REV
Such a challenge on the diaphragm and vocal highs
oh god deppresed why can't the Rev be born without a anlarged heart 😔😭😭😖
he played drums like a god none the less
Silvercreeper99 but he used drugs too...
Yeah his enlarged heart was his disease and drugs were his Brompton cocktail...
LOVE those chords in the chorus. they are BEAUTIFUL.

Rip
I didn't hear it
I heard something but it could be a mistake because the rev voice is so high
Lol No. Definitely not the rev. You're hearing Synyster Gates's Sustainiac from his guitar. The rev doesn't sing in that part of the song.
thats what i thought was happening when i first heard this song.
Scary how this is almost like fiction in which it’s kinda foreshadowing Jimmy’s passing. You can especially think that’s true if you know what a brompton cocktail actually is….
That’s how the Rev died. He wrote this. Had an in large heart.
He didn't kill himself.
I love this song, despite the depressing nature and background for it and the events that followed. It'd really hit home, and, also, I think may possibly be a way to honor and remember Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan.
god i MISS the rev.the few songs he left behind, almost like the 3D movies of music.the emotion, skills and talent inside are touchable
You know it's gonna be good when the first lyrics are "Doc, I'm dying".
A song that spoke to my depressed self, yet was upbeat and gave me a little confidence.
One of the best track from them! Definitely! If someone knows another similar to this I would be really grateful!
and betrayed too i guess
Cheers...I think we all need a Brompton Cocktail.
I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!

You're right in every sense here. Thank you for saying this.
this would be a good song to do a lyric prank with
That sounds like a good idea, yet a pretty harsh one.
these lyrics are beautiful
This is amazing
Such an amazing song!
True.. i love this song, rev was a great songwriter. genius
Absolutely love this song! :D
Love this song!
the REV'S suicide note
and fiction 😞
+Samantha Martin it's actually only fiction, brompton cocktail was about how he was going to commit suicide
+Alfredo Gutierrez Even though Syn was the one who came up with the song? k
+Yolonda McGoldfish The Rev wrote it.
it is about the revs suicide. but I don't think it's his note. that would be fiction.
The drumming in this is sick! RIP The Rev
You got a thumps up from me my friend, great song and amazing lyrics... Keep on at it, you do a great job :)
I get so sad listening to this song, because I didn't know what the rev was going through at the time. How much pain he was in.
3:13 sounds like a little peace of heaven
" And I take my life tonight
cause I have the right to die how I wanna
& leave how I arrived, so alive.
Please don't question why I've left this way. "
my fav parts😎👌
With that lyrics .I think it's about euthanasia
Did anyone realized that there were some tone from a lil piece of heaven?
you mean the string ensambles? yes it was on alpoh too, but also on beethovens 9th. hmmm mystoriousssss
the Rev will always be remembered as the knife master 😖

A Brompton Cocktail was a mixture of drugs that originated in Brompton Hospital in London in the 20th century and was used as a painkiller that also made them feel "high" (hence, "induced euphoria".)
That's why he says "Doc"
