- This is the second part of a bookmaking series. In this video, I demonstrate how I finish my text block using kettle stitch binding and how to make the headbands.
Materials that I use:
- 2mm cover board
- Tracing paper for the lining of the book spine, or you can use any thin paper (I suggest below 90 gsm)
- Twine for the base structure of the headbands
- Sewing cotton threads for the headbands (I used blue and white)

the chisel method is amazing! I have everything I need to repeat it, so I will do it on my first bookbinding try. making a small notebook from old paper, upcycling.
Astonishing! I watched all the parts of making this book entirely and honestly it was mesmeric to watch your work. It is apparent that you're making it with care and love.
Thank you so much!
Maybe in a few years lol! Love to watch you work!
More bookbinding please. Love this 🇨🇦
Thank you! I'm planning to make more bookbinding videos, so look forward to it :)

كلش كلش حلوووو ❤❤❤❤ ابدااااع !
I’m amazed! Thank you
What are the small pieces of cloth which you sewed on the edges of the spine to hold the pages together called? The ones that were looped again and again with thread so beautifully.
Thanks so much!
Thank you!
It's a twine. What I use here is polyester twine, but you can use any type of twine that you have :)
❤
That's one sharp chisel 😅! Did you trim all 3 sides or just the long edge?
I trim all 3 sides :)
Good .🌺🌺🌺👍
The video is amazing ❤❤❤ , but what kind of white paper do you glue after sewing ?
Thank you so much!
This is baking paper! But if you don't have it, you can use parchment paper, or regular office paper is fine too :)
hello, say what is the tool you use to cut the edges of the pages to equalize them? I'm looking for exactly that but I can't find it. THANKS
Hello! It's wood chisel :)
Hi! Thank you for the video! Could you tell me what is the thing you use for cutting the whole book? I've never seen it and seems a very interesting tool
It looks like a chisel.
Sorry for the late reply, but yes it is a wood chisel :)
@@marsbeads thank you ...I thought it, but doesn't think it would work for that....
@@rururereii thanks for answering... I don't think I could make it work, seems difficult
@@chiaranarducci5196 It would need to be very sharp 👍🏻
salut penuh kesabaran
thank you!
What is the white paper/cloth that you are sticking?
It's baking paper! I use it as an alternative to bookbinding mull :)

Is this a woodworking chisel (1:07)? Would you recommend any specific brand? Is there any other good and easy way of trimming signatures for beginners?
Yes, it is a wood chisel! I don't really have any recommendation on what brand to use, I actually just bought a cheap one..
To be honest, using wood chisel gives me the best result. Because when I use a regular cutter, I always ended up trimming it on an angle (and the text block ended up all wonky) because it's hard for me to control the cutter.
Sometimes I would trim per signature (before sewing them together) and for me it looks okay. I hope this helps :)
@@rururereii Thank you so much!! 😊🤗
You're welcome!
@@rururereii May I also ask how do you sharpen your chisel? Do you use #1000/#3000 grit combination whetstone?
@@sissylil hello, sorry for the late reply! I don't use whetstone, I sharpen my chisel on regular sandpaper (starting with 150 grit and gradually changing to a softer grit, ending with 2000 grit). Here's a video that I followed as a guide to sharpen mine: czcams.com/video/k3sr36Dip0E/video.html
But, I do have a chisel sharpening jig to make it a bit easier, but it's not necessary. And I also don't use a sharpening compund like in that video, but it worked pretty well for me!
I need book binding work
Really sorry, but I'm not taking comission..
Is this oppositional that side clothe stitching process?
I'm sorry but I don't really understand what side clothe stitching process is, can you explain more about that?
@@rururereii from 08:00 to 11:15
@user-lo9ui8xm3t ohh yes, the thin threads are wrapped around the twine alternately between each colors
@@rururereii but why. Please tell
@user-lo9ui8xm3t it's just for aesthetic reason, if you only want to use one color you absolutely can.
Just make sure to sew it into the signature every few wraps so it's secure :)
which glue your using ☺️
It's pva glue/ wood glue :)
