cry everytime I see this
the last airbender the m night one it'll teach you how not to do adaptations and also how not do make a movie.
There is nothing more manly than crying to The Iron Giant.
Even after all the viewings and fully knowing the outcome of everything, it STILL makes me cry.
And Dean is the GOAT!
@@battybuddy I actually never realized Hogarth based his final speech to the Giant off of Dean's advice to him. I'm insanely grateful to this reactor for making me aware
Bro I cried a lot when I saw the end like goodness iron giant 100%10 man
Literally the only time Superman made me cry is when he was played by The Iron Giant
Ah yes. Vin Diesel's finest movie
Wait what? You joking?.... Going to Google now
Bruh I never knew the iron giant was vin diesel! 🤯
They nearly got Peter Cullen to voice the Giant
@@toddkes5890 I can believe that. Would've worked I bet. But I think I'm happy the way it did go.
ah yes, when you just saw the movie for the first time in english and you're surprised to see who's voicing in it xD
This was one of those movies that I watched constantly as a kid, and now as an adult I can confidently say that this is my favourite movie of all time. This had such a massive influence on me and taught me so many lessons. "Its bad to kill, but it's not bad to die" really changed me as a person and made the person I am now. This movie genuinely has the best screenwriting and dialogue i have ever seen in an animated movie. I love the 50s aesthetic and music, this led to my love for Back to the Future, Elvis Presley and of course Superman. This movie also touches on far more mature topics than other "kids" movies like nuclear war, the dangers of weapons, the corruption of power, the positives and negatives of death, sacrifice, etc. I will eternally love every aspect of this movie
Clark Kent WHO?! Nah, the real superman is in this movie :,,,)
35:44 "Shouldn't we get to a shelter?"
"It wouldn't matter."
Kills me every time. 🥺😭
The two lines that got me were, "I am not a gun," and "Superman." It really made the Giant seem human. I watched the movie on Netflix for the first time right before watching your reaction. I have to say, though, I'm glad I'm not as well-versed as you are in the construction of a screenplay and the story formulae. Seems like it kind of kills some of the suspense for you, knowing what is coming next. I really try not to guess what happens, like I don't want to spoil it for me by telling myself, "I told you so!"
I don't really see the giant as human. Just a being with a soul. People keep saying something feels more human when they do something selfless or kind but we all know not every person is like that.
When something has a will of its own and chooses its own path is when I think something isn't necessarily human, but has a soul and is a living being.
Fun and sad fact about this movie: the creator’s sister was killed with a gun in a domestic dispute, which had a major impact on him. This led him into thinking: “what if a gun had a soul? Would it still choose to be a gun?”
This is how the movie The Iron Giant was born. This pondering question, as well as a story about a giant metal being also known as The Iron Giant, is what les to the creation of this animated film.
While I agree that knowledge of screenplay can potentially affect the experience of a film, I think this movie does an excellent job at making you think the movie is over at several different points of the movie. Even if you could recall that the Giant could repair himself, the order in the reveal of the statue and then the screw was well executed. Even if you can read it for what it is (a fakeout that the Giant is dead and a hint that he's still alive), it is such an impactful way to do it. Also, good art doesn't necessarily indicate that the story isn't clichéd, predictable, or redundant, just that the way it executes said redundancies is original and well-executed.
Acceptable times for grown men to cry:
- Birth of child
- Seeing the Grand Canyon
- Funerals
- Watching Iron Giant / Field of Dreams
(others sure to follow)
One of my favorite movies!
Brad Bird went on to direct the Incredibles.
Plus I firmly believe that this voice role is what got Vin Diesel the role of Groot in the MCU.
Brad Bird pitched his Iron Giant story in memory of his sister who was killed by gun violence.
His pitch was: "What if a gun had a soul and didn’t want to be a gun?"
One of my favorite movie, it's gets me every time.
Even when I was editing the video... I teared up again lol. That Superman line gets me every time 😭😭
I love how you called out that part with him catching those kids. I thought that when I first saw this as a kid
I thought maybe there was a bit more slowdown involved. Like it's a harder surface but his hand moves down with them for the last 5-10 feet
I really love that even with all the more academic analysis you still enjoyed some of the pure joy this movie brings. I don't think any movie makes me feel more like I did when I was a kid than this one.
If we reach the 150 like goal (honestly probably even if we don't) my breakdown video for this movie will be how The Iron Giant & Wall-E makes us care for robots to the point we cry. Sooo like the video if you enjoyed, please :)
I find it interesting Hogarth's father is mentioned briefly. He was apparently an American pilot and killed during World War 2 (he's only referred to as 'Mr. Hughes' in the script, as Hogarth's surname is Hughes). He was a war hero (making Kent even more of a prick; he's seriously willing to kill a little boy who's the son of a decorated war hero for his own glory). There's a few photos of him in Hogarth's house. Dying during the war while his mother was pregnant, Hogarth naturally never knew him and greatly desires a father figure (which is why he kind of attaches himself to Dean) and a sibling (his love for the giant, who's essentially the biggest brother ever). There's a sadness to that that's extremely realistic, and makes you want to root for Hogarth and his kind of makeshift family.
Killed in Korean war
One thing that makes this movie sadder is when you consider what inspired Brad Bird to make this film in the first place. His sister had recently been murdered by her ex-husband with a gun. The pitch for this movie was "What if a gun had a soul and didn't want to be a gun?"
Bit of a random point to comment on, but I think the reason the two kids weren't hurt when they landed on the Giant's hand was because he moved his hand down as they made contact so they wouldn't hit as hard.
this whole movie can be describe with only 3 words "unnecesary underrated movie" like for real this whole piece of film its not just gold its diamond! its pure diamond all of it
Vin has said this is his favorite character he has played
You want a "don't cry" animated film challenge? I'm not a guy that cries watching films, but even I get misty-eyed watching Disney's Encanto. Lin-Manuel Miranda was involved in the writing and the man is a legend. Just be sure to filter the hell out of the audio and video or the copyright bots will blast you.

The hand swinged its tail like a pup
this shit will make a grown man cry haha
Great stories?
The Usual Suspects, Fallen, A Beautiful Mind, A Scanner Darkly, Bill and Ted's Great Adventure, Ninja Turtles (older version), Jacob's Ladder, V of Vendetta, Good Will Hunting, King Fisher, What Dreams May Come, Leon the Professional, Interview With a Vampire, Moana, Encanto
to name some off the top of my head.
19:17 do .25 playback speed and pause at each frame of Mansley's face being slammed in that door.
9:07 good animation is good animation, but yeah this style is just so expressive and rich in frames...
Speaking of expressive rich animated films, you should absolutely react to Redline! It's a visual feast.
He lost himself in the movie (love it!), "Animate me in this movie so I can fight him!"
yo. i'm revisiting this video, because i love this film, and am thinking of watching it with family who haven't seen it. you really nailed it with the Terminator 2 comparison. Anyways, you got me thinking, and i think you are a good teacher. you drew me in with a good movie i love, and then taught me about story telling. i feel better informed when i pursue storytelling.
Tim McCanlies also wrote a screenplay and directed Secondhand Lions. One of my favorite movies.
if a gun had a soul, and didn't want to be a gun
-Brad bird, 1999
Fun fact about the movie the creator made the movie about his sister that was killed by a gun so he made this movie ''what if a gun had a soul and didn't want to be a gun''
And the sentence in '' was the main idea of the movie
Your ability to predict the plot points is impressive 😃 You even guessed half the actual lines said 👏
You have real spirit kid! Keep doing what you're doing and by sheer persistence you will make a place for yourself in the business. As a fellow lover of stories I wish you luck, and know you'll do very well for yourself creatively
First time to your channel. Great breakdown of the movie my dude. You just got a new subscriber
People often site the fact that this movie didn't do well at the box office at the time of release... The reasons for that are (at least) twofold; 1) The only movie anyone wanted to talk about at the time (1999), was Star Wars Episode One, and 2) This was the third animated movie released by Warner Bros. in 1999 (The other two being 'Quest for Camelot' and "Cats Don't Dance'). Neither of these did well with a modest marketing budget behind them, so it was decided that people just weren't interested in animated films, and so this movie would be released with no marketing behind it. To this day, I'm still hoping that someone at Warner Bros. lost their job over that decision...
A few years later, an announcement was made that Brad Bird was directing an 'Untitled Superhero Project' for Pixar... I wonder how that turned out...
(Interesting triva bit; During 'The Incredibles', Helen is flying an aircraft who's call letters are 'India Golf Niner Niner', (IG99). It's subtle, but a nice nod, nonetheless...)
I’m so happy you’re doing this movie ❤️🌹I’m loving your channel😊
Oh shit my fav reactor reacting to my fav movie, this is going to be lit, much love my guy
I'm forcing people to watch this movie, is something about those animated robots lol, between him and Wall-E 😭😭😭
@@JakeLovesStories it’s so good! & the background story of the director Brad Bird pitched his Iron Giant story because his sister was killed by gun violence and he wanted to tell a story about a gun that didn't want to be one. & the souls don’t die dialog, sensational!
Did anyone get around to drawing you about to beat up Kent Mansley? Cause I can’t really draw in the iron giant art style but I really REALLY would love to see that too.
And all that implies…
you chose who you wan to be, SUPERMAN!!!!!!
Great reaction! Looking forward to seeing you receive that Oscar... 😀
All I can is in response against the military in this movie… self defense is a bitch huh
Sorry I didn't subscribe sooner, thanks for making me realize Dean inspired Hogarth's final speech to the Giant
I'm learning a lot watching these videos.
The only movie that no matter what will make me cry
I fought it so hard lol
Brad Birds original script had the IG die
The legendary Brad Bird of Disney/Pixar/The Simpsons. Great reaction!
This takes place during the space race, meaning there was large scale paranoia in America, which is why they were so paranoid especially since sputnik launched shortly before the movie started in the movie world.
The last version of
The count of Monte Cristo
The Last Samurai
have you seen The time Traveler's Wife movie? That made a man cry on a radio show.
1960 on CZcams
The Iceman Cometh
A Fistful Of Dynamite
You should totally watch the movie district 9 2009 such an underrated movie
Its okay to cry to this movie.... Su Per Man....
Yes May I ask what movie of the video opinion
Yes czcams.com/video/te7zR2Wpqrc/video.html I love it
Wasn't Brad Bird one of the writers for the Simpsons animated series? I think so, if it's the same Brad Bird.
5:17 I'm actually wondering the same thing, how are we not doing that?
Awesome 👏
.... whatever happens, I must not cry! You can't make meeee......😭
I get why they did the Disney ending; don't want to inject a hypodermic needle of existential crisis into a generation of kids;
BUT,
In my headcanon, Iron Giant is dead. That's the whole point of the film.
It also aligns with the soul conversation, “souls don’t die”
Even though I knew that Iceland was a country, as a kid I took it to mean that he was in Heaven.
2D animation was at it's best in the late 1999s, Titan AE is a great film that came out in the early 2000s, some say it was the last great 2D film to be made.. then everything became 3D. In my honest opinion great 2D always beat great 3D.
Please watch Grave of The Fireflies for a real good tear. great reaction. new sub.
You should watch Dark City
The key is to fast-forward past the first ~10 minutes to where John Murdoch is waking up. If needed, get someone else to fast-forward to the right location so you can properly react to it.
Chronicle
SUPERMAN!!!!!
This movie get everybody bruh. No shame.
You sound like eddie murphy
Rip
The story behind this movie is really tragic
Hold up let me grab a tissue, okay what's the story?
@@JakeLovesStories Brad Burn's, the creator of the film, sister was shot by her husband before The Iron Giant was made. So Brad Burn made a movie based on the quote "What if a gun had a soul, and didn't want to be a gun", which is also referenced when Iron Giant says "I not gun".
