I was at the distillery last year and picked one up. It is definitely still a team pick, I believe they blend three options and send them back to Islay for the team to pick. I will also say I picked up a 2018 version in 2022, so these somehow last quite a while at the distillery (keeping in mind Covid played a big factor between 20-22).
I thought it was great, and better than the other bottles they had (including the Jazz festival which was about 2x the price), but not a standout where I needed more than a bottle. The limiting factor is always luggage space for me, and I already had a suitcase full of Springbank.

Already had a suit case full of Springbank. What can one do 🤷🏻‍♂️
I appreciate the Lagavulin information. The 2017 release is worth hunting and I’m in total agreement regarding the Lagavulin purchase. Nothing exceptional since 2016

Suitcase of springbank? So when are you heading to Ohio? :)

Gotta ask how you guys feel about the Offerman Editions? In the same general category as GoT?

No it’s okay whisky, in my opinion. I believe we reviewed the first 11 NO

I can't recall if we ever got to review the first or not. They're ok...wish they were cheaper. But now that they're doing all these finishes...I'm just not that interested it the gimmick. But yeah the quality is similar to the GoT release.

Loved the 3rd Offerman but nothing compared to this beauty! Collecting Lagavulins is bliss and expensive! I open and share! Fabulous review! You guys rock!!

I can only imagine how much better Lagavulin would be from indy bottler's and same with Oban but it's never going to happen

I haven't had an Oban in a while. Very limited core range but I would love more from the distillary. Just too small?

"Sweet, smoky, easy drinking Lagavulin." Guys, it's 200 bucks 😱😱😱 I love a drop of Lagavulin but that doesn't sound too exciting for $200. Oddly enough, I started with the 16 and after all my whisky adventures it's probably the only Lagavulin I'll buy these days unless Diageo fuck it up by doubling the price like Talisker 18. I wish I liked the 8 more than I do but it's just an okay young Islay. People always talk of the 16 going to 46% abv but if that ever happened the price would double. Diageo have no need to do that anyhow as it sells so well as it is.
The elephant in the room is the 12. Mike and I used to have a great time swapping tales about the great vintages of that whisky but Diageo have well and truly fucked that up. Pricey but great but now it's whacko pricey and not great. I don't know what kind of business plan that is but I do see plenty of Special Release Lagavulin 12 backing up, unsold, all over the place. It's not even worth it for flippers. That bottle is not worth a penny more than £100.
If I ever get to Islay I would stash up and I'd have a car. However, my wife discreetly never mentions the leakage in our bank balance as long as it's not massively abused. By the way, I do have an independent single barrel bottle of Islay 10 which I bought 6, or so, years ago. I have it on good authority it's Lagavulin.
Cheers Guys and thanks for the great reviews. WT

I must say with Lag 16 going down in price a LOT the last few years here in the states. It's almost back to sanely priced. But I still think a good Lag 12 CS for today's prices would be my preference. You must get lag 16 at a considerably better price than we do Welsh.

The 16 is still a smoky bonfire masterpiece on the nose.

@@topshelfdustin3060 It crept up to about £80 but it's often in sales down to a more sensible £60. I do like Lagavulin 16 but it's so light at 43% I get through it too quickly.
