It’s really good to hear that the focus is on the enjoyment of the characters and not their ties to a bigger picture
Yeah except that answer he is giving is dodging the original question which was basically asking why didnt you just continue the story already established. He didnt ask, why arent you building a shared universe he asked why did you shit on the universe that already had the ball rolling? and in true james gunn fashion, he answered the questions he wished they had asked and not the one they actually did.
@@113KILL5The Snyderverse is over. It’s time to move on
@@thevilereviews7812 That has nothing to do with what Im talking about. I accepted that a long time ago. Also, if the snyderverse is over, why are we recycling characters from the DCEU into the DCU? this is my point, we should be starting out totally fresh and not using actors from before.
@@113KILL5 no character introduced by Snyder is returning so yeah it's truly over. Also statements like your reply above is unique to Snyder fans. They're the only one worried about why the other verse wasn't continued
@@alexpeter1Amanda waller is back and she from the snyderverse
No confusion. It is essentially a full reboot minus a few minor characters. The heavy hitters will be new actors. Peacemaker, Amanda Waller, Blue Beetle are played by the same actors, but prob won't be exactly the same characters from the DCEU.
Really what he's saying is, nothing is canon until the official DCU projects make it canon. So if stuff from DCEU projects gets referenced, then that is when it becomes canon
For example, the events of Gunn's Suicide Squad movie probably played out the way that it did in the DCEU, since John Cena's Peacemaker's tied into those events as is his show, alongside what may be happening with Viola Davis's upcoming Amanda Waller show (which is set up to follow the events of Peacemaker).
i am so much excited for the DCU i am sure that James going to design a beautiful universe
If he made gotg a mega hit imagine with characters we actually know
I view it similar to comic continuity. You can have different versions of many of the same characters with only slight variations.
This and I also feel like from the beginning to now the MCU is a comic adaptation to what is going on today and I feel like the DCU will be a comic that jumped to live action if I’m making sense
I don’t get the ppl calling Gunn stupid at all. He’s just doing something different from Marvel and starting off later in the timeline. Sure, some origins will be necessary but for Superman, Batman, etc? There’s just no need. And also to the people who think starting off with creature commandos is a dumb move, think of it as a kind of appetizer or dipping your toes into the new universe.
I’m absolutely fascinated to know how they kick off this universe. I kinda feel like there’s a surprise coming, partly actually because I think it’s really going to be difficult for them to part with Gal Gadot specifically, as well as keeping Peacemaker etc and everything else we know. I wonder (wonder, not expect) if there’ll be literally a scene at the beginning that resets the universe, ie. creates a new universe in a comic booky sort of way. And from there they go straight into the film’s plot, without the need for a repeated origin story etc. Either way, I find Gunn’s comments encouraging so far. Can’t wait to find out more as the production develops. Good luck to the writers in their strike, hope they get what they want!
Their opportunity got screwed with the Flash movie, would have been a perfect way to say "Barry fucked up this universe that he was in and now in turn, all universes are sort of fucked" instead its just like "Oh yeah heres peacemaker, dont worry about everything hes said before about and too other characters that existed before because thats not canon, oh but some of those events happened, just not the ones we dont want, oh and you never saw them because they didnt happen, even though that was the introduction to the character" fucking hell.
This is what I mean when someone like James Gunn should stay off the social media and not address everything in real time (or as close to it as possible)... people will want more and more and keep bugging if you don't deliver... it makes things worse if they want to change their minds later, as if it was a promise...but since the DCU hasn't even started, they are free to make whatever changes they deem fit
How many times can a guy confirm something before people leave him alone? Also, I find most people claiming to be "confused" are being very disingenuous.
i discovered this channel a few months ago and i gotta say man i enjoy the talks opinions & content. keep it up
I appreciate that!
Dc forever❤
DC forever💙
My favorite shots are always when Clark is running and exploring his power. Him racing a train in Donner version was MAGIC. The new show did it well too.
I personally see James Gunn's DCU as a different Earth from the DCEU and that its simply part of the multiverse. I don't think its too confusing.
Everyone was complaining about how DC needs to be different from MARVEL and when GUNN makes it different everyone complains
RE: Actors continuing characters from the DCEU.
Sometimes your double on another Earth in the multiverse looks like you, sometimes it doesn't. There! I explained it.
I definitely missed a lot lately so I’m thankful to have these videos to keep me updated!
You do better contents about DCU than other channels I've seen. Keep it up.
I think I get what you mean hes basically creating his Continuity with The old continuity That way, it won't be so confusing for people to understand what's going on. While at the same time creating his world within it So basically, it's not a complete rewrite. What the flash is more like creating a whole new campus Wow using the existing one
-people are complaining about a universe that hasn’t even started yet.
James Gunn like comic
No really 😱
Couple of things: (1) I may be reading far too much into this, but in the post Boba showed regarding returning actors like Viola Davis and John Cena, Gunn added a merman emoji at the end, which I can only assume is a nod to Freddie Stroma's Vigilante. Anything that gives me more Freddie as Vigilante makes me happy. (2) I see no reason to be throwing out the baby with the bathwater. It makes perfect sense to me to keep the successful bits around and change the rest. I think folks are having a hard time imaging what it will look like, but the good news is, you don't have to! I think we are all smart enough to figure out this universe once we see it. Just be patient and enjoy the ride. I know I will. :)
Yea as frustrating as the strikes have been, I like the idea of Gunn having basically an extra 5 months for prep work that was allowed.
Who do you think is gonna play the new Alfred of the dcu ? the chemistry between Damion and Alfred is going to be awesome
If the league hasn’t formed the titans shouldn’t have formed so how do we get to Damien and Nightwing before the justice league or titans? this time line is gonna be wierd
As always, fantastic breakdown. These videos are so great
James answer to the question of canonicity is how I always viewed the The Suicide Squad vs Suicide Squad, there’s quite a few things that don’t line up from a canon perspective and it overall feels nothing like the universe the DCEU had built, I always just thought that similar events to what happened in the 2016 movie happened in the past of the 2021 movie even if they weren’t exactly the same
they should just release a new cut of Peacemaker season 1 that cuts out the Justice league scene
I have zero qualms with Xolo coming back as Blue Beetle because I really enjoyed that movie and it’s characters. Although, I do understand a lot of people’s hesitation with Waller and Peacemaker returning, even though I don’t mind since they’re smaller characters. Waller can basically be like JK Simmons’ Jameson or Judi Dench’s M to me where it’s just the same actor playing an important side character across universes. Peacemaker isn’t important enough of a character to DC as a whole to put a damper on things for me, and apart from the JL’s cameo at the end of season 1 (which, according to The Flash and Shazam 2’s logic) the show and The Suicide Squad film could have happened slightly differently and been placed as prologue projects in the new DCU. I WILL have more of a problem if Gadot is kept as Wonder Woman (have her produce a project, not Star), Ezra is Flash (boot them altogether), and Mamoa is Aquaman (just make him Lobo already).
Again, not fully sure how this is gonna play out, there is SO much more I’m excited about than I am nervous about! Most of the projects either sound really exciting or at least interesting, with a lot of fresh names that have never been adapted before and have so much potential! It’s nice to have a creative at the head of DC because I believe him when he says “storytelling is always key” and they never want to sacrifice that for the sake of a cinematic universe. I also know you don’t care about comics, which is fine, but for me, seeing him embrace the creators of the stories they’re basing their projects on gives me so much respect for him because that’s something the MCU actively hasn’t been doing much. Every trailer ends with comic recommendations, comic creators are being brought on to help with the films themselves (Waller and especially Supergirl are examples of this). Tom King being involved with the film adaptation of his comic, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, gives me so much hype, that’s a fantastic comic and a really easy read.
I think the transition is rough, and I have my hesitations too, but it excites me more than most of the MCU right now and I can’t wait to see what happens. While it’s a bit confusing and idk exactly what to expect, I am still hopeful and excited. I personally really enjoy Gunn’s ability to make his projects emotionally resonant alongside his sense of humor, and he proved himself to me with GOTG3 this year. James Gunn impressed me by how empathetic he was able to make Peacemaker, a character that I previously knew nothing about and was rooting against in TSS. The comments he and Peter Safran have made about Superman give me full assurance he understands what’s he’s doing with these characters, and I’m truly excited to see his Lois & Clark on the big screen opening day!
From about 22:00 and on you are literally just speaking pure gold. that is all we want! if we focus on the characters, the story is great regardless!! FUCKIN PREACH 🙌🙌
Another fantastic video you're the man boba
This is great news!!!
It'll be Interesting if Tom King's Wonder Woman comics will be used as a Source Material for the NEW Wonder Woman Movie and the new Wonder Woman Comics is an Action Thriller!
It's like Charlie Cox joining the MCU and the rest of the cast of Daredevil getting recast
I have always seen DC's "canon" as malleable; even for the comics which change the timeline ever-so-slightly every few years.
I think this is basically a hard reboot. The characters arent the same we saw but might have similar things happened to. Like how every movie batman parents died but all have different universes, or how mamoma plays 2 different aquamans. So peacemaker, waller and blue beetle look the same but dont take there previous adventures cannon unless said in the show/movie and even then it will have differences
I know they haven’t put any work in for 5 months but a lot of these movies and shows were already so far off anyways so I feel like if they want it to come out at the same time as before they could
29:47 your birthday is 2 days before mine. Happy early birthday!!
So excited to see superman legacy. But for batman brave & bold I really want it to be Christian bale to come as batman. I'm really anxious to see who they casting for batman brave & bold!!!.
One thing I hope would happen is they retcon Captain Boomerang’s Death, keeping him in consistency with his Comic Book Schtick “A boomerang always comes back”
I agree with u and I also see more actors staying on with dcu not just the four he confirmed that are staying we will most likely hear more
I see James adding Xolo in peacemaker season 2 since I believe there’s a story having Jamie being mentored by peacemaker. He would fit well since he has experience being taught by a badass manchild in Johnny Lawrence.
My personal opinion on what people are talking about. When they say hard reboot is that mostly everything that was of big importance for that universe is going to be gone. But not the lesser important stuff Bec I look at the characters and things that are probably still going to be cannon is so much smaller it might as well be a hard reboot. Because regardless if your a fan or not. Nobody cares about it really let's be real. Blue beetle that kind of has to be a fan only thing otherwise it doesn't really have a big impact of a transition. Look at your first lineup of movies.
Good news update.
Someone plz correct me but are the sag people members meeting with the company’s tomorrow but I could be very wrong
Ayyyyy my b day is the 1st of Oct, do you remember when The Batman was meant to come out then would’ve been the best b day present for us hahahahah
so it’s not a reboot it’s a “whoever James Gunn personally likes can come back”-boot
Yup!
What if Jeremy Irons returns as Alfred or pearce Brosnan?!!!
well, either soft or hard reboot, i just can't wait to see DCU as soon as possible.. but i hope they don't copy Marvel. i mean, DC has their own things. when the story is 'dark', i hope they can still make it dark. when funny, of course audience will love it.. but not too much either
Have you heard about the news of mathew vauhn directing something in the dcu. Recently it has been said that he was involved some how in a james bond film but instead is committed to the dcu. Personally I think and hope its the authority
I think the bond film is actually Argyll. I'm not what dcu project he might be involved in. It would be cool if the directed the authority.
I am just happy to know AI generated scripts are off the table and that the writers are getting better pay and working conditions. Hope the same can be said for the actors soon. In terms of the strikes.
In terms of the shared universe, I want to wait until we have solid content to render a verdict.
The fact Creatures and Commando is now the official start of the DCU and not Superman Legacy (not just from a movie point of view, but the universe canon)... really shows where James' love and priority is... these smaller off-shoot projects than big AAA releases like the DC trinity.
The DCU movies should be an Potential (On going) Franchise with each being made into a Vertical Brand (Movie, Original Series, Animeation and Gaming) which I favor, cross-over should be De emphasize and Not needed. Great Stories are told due to Compelling Storylines and Cross Overs could lead to many Plot Holes!
the characters are going to be cannon but the movies won't be.
peacemaker i can see still being cannon because they didn't have many dceu references all they have to recon certain scenes in the dcu version .
To me saying that a hard reboot in film need change the actors is the same as saying that in comics a hard reboot would need to change the artists and colorists. Fucking crazy
Okay. This also means the new Wonder Woman might be played by the same actress or not. And they could keep the canon of her S*** assaulting a human possessed by Steve Trevor, or not. We just don't know it yet.
So... Gal Gadot will ever play Wonder Woman again? I do not understand why Jame Gunn can't just say that. What's he afraid of?
Bob Odenkirk for J Kent
I think Brendan Fraiser would be a fantastic choice.
Bruce Greenwood for J Kent, Bob Odenkirk for Perry White!
Oct 2nd is my gf’s birthday too!
People making up 💩 is what fans focus on instead what is true
Bring lobo in legacy
Not enough people watched/paid attention to The Flash movie. I thought the spaghetti scene explained things pretty well. The DCEU is one strand, the DCU will be another. There may be similarities where the strands overlap (like how Zod attacked Earth in both the Affleck and Keaton timelines) but they're still separate. A familiar universe, but with a new future and a new past.
Take out the faceless justice league plus Ezra diddler and Jason mamousa peacemaker isn’t tied to a certain universe 🤷🏾♂️
Let me explain: The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker and Blue Beetle are Soft Canon. Creature Commandos and Superman Legacy are Hard Canon. James Gunn should really work on his communication skills…
This reboot is incredibly liberating to me
For me it means I don't have to support anything or keep fighting for stuff
Every single decision the DCEU made was purely reactionary to their previous failure and to what the MCU was doing. They wanted Endgame money but weren't willing to put in the time and effort of zeroing in on individual character stories, letting those fester, and grow to a big climactic Everyone vs Darkseid event or something. The DCEU was just shitting out whatever they thought could maybe turn a profit. The DCEU had a couple of good movies, but for the most part? Good riddance.

Him saying about plot points being similar/ continued, characters reprising there roles and some being recast. Im a general DC fan & i find it so confusing
I really don't see what's that confusing about it. If there's a DCEU actor reprising their role, some of their backstory will highly likely remain intact in the DCU e.g. Peacemaker etc. Some characters like Batman/Superman will have a vastly different continuity to their DCEU versions.
@@BobaTalks I don't understand why he keeps some actors some not. It makes it a lot more obvious it's all new
Who do you think will be cast as batman?
@@ahmadmohammed4212it’s definitely not Brant Daugherty
😂
I'm really sceptical about this approach and I doubt they'll pull it off. J.Jonah Jameson is just one "silly character", not an entire TV show. They should just do a full reboot and recast everyone imo
First!
I failed saving DCEU
The problem is Peacemaker himself insulted the Justice League members, Superman, batman, Aquaman. But the thing is those insults seemed believable because obviously the DCEU justice league members were kinda too dark and seemed capable of breaking moral codes. Leaving peacemaker in the upcoming DCU would create this weird and mismatching impression of the new DCU justice league members. Wouldn't it?
What they needed was a Deadpool 2 scenario where he goes to different times and killed ‘ changed other events 😂 coz It’s like he’s making it intentionally as difficult as possible for himself. Just look at how many times he’s had to reply to completely random nobodies to clarify his previous statements. It would’ve been so much easier to just either hard cut it off and straight up say it’s a hard reboot or to give the dceu / snyderverse a form of closure or create an event where one absolutely has to lead into the other. Coz I do want it to be successful coz I want a dc cinematic universe but fuck is it annoying with this odd picking and choosing.
No copping out
Are you more excited for gunns DC or Reeves dc
I don't think this is confusing UNTIL you start to say it out loud
The short answer is gunn is Cherry picking both in actors and continuity
Well yeah duh. He’s the creator and the executive producer attached to this. Why wouldn’t he cherry pick what is needed to have an artistically perfect vision to achieve the best outcome?
@@coltongates7397 don't know why you'd be so naive to assume the best outcome but he could start completely fresh and have zero baggage or confusion instead of what I said and where we actually find ourselves
I agee with Flip, Gunn should've kept the same actors and do different verisions of their characters they play! He can still do a reboot but keep the same cast of DCU actors, it would bea win win! Save money & makes sense to me
The fact that it takes so much explaining highlights what a mess it is. If dedicated fans are showing confusion, what will mass audiences be like? JG's cherry picking casting from the old DCEU is an issue, i.e the JL appearing at the end of Peacemaker season 1, that in-effect is a totally different world to that of JG's.
I'm convinced this will be an irritating issue for audiences. It's simple, a hard reboot is needed. Sorry John Cena.
To add another layer of confusion, there's another Batman series in full swing, and another Joker. So within a short space of time DC/JG are asking for audiences to fathom (for example) a joker in the DCEU, a joker solo, a joker in The Batman and likely a joker in the DCU. Surely they can see how this is madness, so unnecessarily confusing.
In the meantime, rebooting a total franchise/universe while the current universe still has still a number of films to run has been financial madness. It's not only killed the potential box office for the DCEU remaining films, but damaged audiences relationships with the DC superhero films, and dare I say caused a backlash from some actors and directors who have been part of the DCEU, adding more damage.
Does JG know what he's doing? I remember there was an idea, from JG, that The Flash would re-set the DC timeline. I was expecting Barry to arrive in a 'new timeline' which would see a new Superman (Corenswet) and a new Batman (from JG's Brave and the Bold) This would have perfectly linked the DCEU with the DCU. Instead, despite years of delays, we got a Flash film which was decimated. Had so much potential seeing the return of Michael Keaton, but instead reduced the ending to nothing more than a joke seeing Clooney return as Batman, not for a new run, but for a joke.. wow.
If anyone is honest, it's a total mess.
Sense mass casual audiences never really cared or kept up with the dceu sense justice league (2017), I'd take a save guess that the percentage of people who will be confused will be every minor. Plus studios can take off shows from streaming services, edit them, and put them back out. BAM. Problem solved. No more justice league cameo.
James Gunn should have made Superman be gay and make Lois a man that would make audiences more intrigued to watch it.
cinematic shared universes have killed all the joy....
James Gunn is full of shit and this is all waaaaaaay too complicated, even for the fans. This universe is going to strike out and it’s going to fail and I can’t wait for it.
A couple of minor characters coming over isn’t too complicated at all.
Literally not complicated whatsoever but keep that same energy when DC Studios has made over a billion dollars at the box office 10 years down the line!
@@coltongates7397 some characters stay, some go, some actors stay some go, its a reboot but not a full reboot, even though it is. not confusing at all
@@113KILL5 you’re making it out to be more confusing than it really is 🥱
@@coltongates7397 Im actually not. He is keeping actors who played the same characters within the DCEU and bringing them into the DCU as the same character but without the experiences and arcs of the DCEU and without the interactions with the others in the DCEU and were suppose to pretend like thats canon in comics or that those interactions never happened in this universe, but then these characters from the DCEU are now going to be talking a different batman, a different superman etc. so basically repeating arcs already established but under the frame of a new universe. If he had a brain in his fucking head, he would just hard reboot everything, no continuity, no actors who were in it before, just full stop, done, heres the new universe. This whole "oh i like you, but not you" casting bullshit is going to confuse general audiences and the hardcore fans like us and I have zero interest in seeing how they do this, because The Flash was their chance at hinting that maybe barry fucked up the universe and thats why there are some people staying and some going. Instead, that movie doesnt count at all and now were left with an uneven and confusing ascension into a new universe that we dont give a fuck about. Give me one solid reason we should give a shit about this new universe?
James Gunn smokes soooo much weed he can't remember what he said from day to day; month to month. That's why he's constantly contradicting himself. Only a hard-core stoner would think that a Creature Commandoes TV show would be a great idea. Between the actors strike and WBD being $50 BILLION in debt, they're in the worst shape financially than any of the other big studios. They can't afford to wait. My money says that Zaslav sells off the DC Comics IP and sells Lil' Jimmy Gunn back to Marvel, just to stop losing so much money on comic book movies. Like The Flash and Blue Beetle. You can't keep making movies that no one goes to and still stay in business. Any damn fool knows that. Gunn is such a twit.
Nobody thought Guardians Of The Galaxy was a great idea and look how that turned out.
