  • Photos and videos showing the completer restoration of a Story & Clark reed organ made sometime after 1899. It was completely disassembled and rebuilt using materials and methods as close as possible to the original.

I have watched your several videos, several times, about restoring different reed organs and am trying to build up my courage to restore at least the bellows on my 1892 Bell piano-cased ("piano model"), made in Guelph, Canada. It has 73 keys with two sets of reeds in the front and two in the back. I bought it in Douglas, Arizona 50 years ago this month from an antique dealer who was moving his entire store from upstate New York to California--I don't know why he settled in Douglas for a year, but as he was loading his truck to leave, I offered him $100 for the organ and he delivered it to my house on his way out of town. I cleaned it up inside and have been playing it for the past 50 years. It worked well for years, but now the bellows leak so much it takes a lot of pumping to be able to play a piece on it. I enjoy playing the organ and have put together a DIY virtual pipe organ, so it is more fun to play than the reed organ, but your videos have peaked my interest in making the old and still beautiful reed organ playable again. Thank you for making and posting them.

I may be acquiring a Miller organ very soon. It sits in a house that is being cleared out due to the owners going into a nursing home. Once we get rid of the junk around it, I can get more info on it as to year and model number. Hopefully it will be in good condition!

So many people have old pianos or organs in houses and they don't

What type of leather did you use for the Bellows?

Rubberized cloth is used on the bellows and the reservoir. It's available from Steve's Piano Service.

@@billooms6507 What about the strips inside the bellows? They look like they could be suede.

Leather can be obtained from Columbia Organ Leather
