Scuba Diving on a B26/ P39 Plane Wreck in Fiji

  • On Oct.13, 1942 during a training mission in Fiji just south of what is Beachcomber island now, A P39D air cobra accidentally hit the tail section of a B26b bomber. The two planes immediately crashed violently into the ocean with eight lives being lost. The wreckage is 70 feet deep and on this day the water visibility was not the usual Fiji clear blue. It was amazing to see the front landing wheel still held air and very sobering to see how destructive the impact was on the aircraft. Huge thanks to the professional crew of Subsurface diving Fiji .     Thank you for posting this video and the history of the accident - my mother’s uncle was the navigator on board the B-26. I hope to someday dive the wreck site.
