Wow. I have listened to a lot of doctors drone on about MS. But I just found your videos and you are not like the others. You honestly seem to listen to people. That is exceptionally rare. I have subscribed and I thank you for your humanity.
Thanks for another important video. This one in particular speaks to me since I'm 64 and living with MS for 37 years. I recently asked my neurologist to order a bone density test for me (my first) that revealed I had osteopenia. I now take Fosomax, calcium supplements with D3, and am doing weight bearing exercises along with walking. I'm going to recommend others in our community watch this important video. P.S. I don't know how Stuart got around all those places with a broken leg in two places! Unbelievable!
I’ve come across at least 5 people in my MS group this summer alone- who - due to injury ( rolling ankle) have had broken ankles or feet- it’s adding insult to already injured Warriors. Great information Doc. #Sharingiscaring
I was just told two weeks ago that I have borderline osteoporosis. I'm only 47! I've only taken steroids three times in my 24 years with MS. This is starting to make sense...
Got diagnosed with osteoporosis originally in 2020. Did not start treatment for it until late last year. I have had MS since 2004 and been on a DMT since then. Just recently started an exercise program about a month ago with some weight bearing activities and do cycling on a recumbent stationary bike for my cardio. Find I cannot do walking for my cardio because this causes my nerves on my left side (where my MS is affected) to get very severe pain that lasts a few hours afterward. Informed my neurologist this at my appointment I had with her last week. Was not aware that MS patients are more prone to osteoporosis until I saw this video. As always, your videos are very informative. Please keep them coming.
You have got to be kidding me. 15 years post-dx and I'm just learning this now? WTF? I was dx'ed with osteoporosis a couple of years ago. I had a fall (Pickleball 🙃) and I fracture my pelvis and now have very painful arthritis there. My Rheumatologist said it was probably due to steroid use for MS. I've only had a couple of steroid infusions. And - now I know - that doesn't cause this - MS DOES!!! 😡No one every told me this. MS is truly the gift that keeps on giving. This is such important information. Thank you both for sharing. I'll be sharing this across the FUMS platforms. #FUMS
Diagnosed 8 years ago with Relapsing Remitting MS. 4 years ago I was diagnosed with Osteoporosis after a Dexa Scan. I take a prescription Alendronate pill once a week. Last scan showed no progression. I also take a daily D3, B12,and Biotin vitamin. I am lactose intolerant so unable to push dairy that I love but am able to eat protein yogurt once a day:-) Anything you can do to help you situation do it! Thank you for this video Dr.B very helpful :-)
Dr. Booster, how I wish I saw this story 9 weeks ago. That would have spurned me to push harder when I fell in the bathroom. Maybe then I wouldn't have 2 breaks in my left (see dominant) hand. Thank you; not being facicous. ❤❤
I’ve been on D3 for about 7 years and luckily my acupuncturist suggested a full spectrum K2 (MK4+MK7) 5 years ago. I turn 50 in 10 days and I have had some concerns about this as I enter the Back 9 of life. I love the information Dr. Boster puts out there but I’ve gotta say that it’s been disappointing to see how little MS Neurologist (especially here in Texas) stay on top of new information and on their patients progress. Most seem to put you on a DMT and wash their hands. Thanks again Dr. Boster
I initiated dexa scan myself after dx at 34. I already have osteopenia. So don’t wait until 50! I do vibration plate training once a week which has shown in medical trials to help. 2 years later it has stayed stable and I continue the training. If you are getting DEXA ask if they can do body composition at the same time. Useful info on muscle and fat mass and location. I have evened out muscle mass which was less on left side and increased overall muscle mass on follow up scan so nice feedback on the training
I’ve got osteoporosis which I acquired after 30+ yrs of MS . Now have false right hip and a plate with ten pins in my upper right arm . I don’t doubt it’s from all those steroids in the past which I only used when I couldn’t walk re bad relapses so I could continue working . I’m now 51 and female and understand osteoarthritis is much more common in females .
I broke my spine at T12, I had a DEXA Scan which showed Osteoporosis in my spine. A year later I experienced a fracture of my iliac crest. I had no idea that MS contributed to the cause of my fractures/Osteoporosis (And I guess going through the change at 35, didn’t help either 🤔) This information really needs putting out there as I’m sure that a lot of Drs are not aware of this!
Thank you Dr Boster and Stewart. So sorry Stewart that’s just horrible, as someone who has broken an ankle I have some idea how painful it is to walk on a broken bone. Thank you both for sharing this really important information! 🔥🔥💖🔥🔥
I'm sorry you had to go through all of that. The last time I walked ometatarsal, I stepped in a divot, broke a couple of metatarsals, tore a tendon, fell, and was stalked by a cricket. 🙂
Dr. Laganke's patient here. I rolled my ankle and ended up with a blood clot in my leg. I need a bone scan, I guess. Two hours to get to clinic. Love Dr. Laganke.
I've been on 5k d3 w/600 mg calcium for nearly 20 years plus calcium in my diet. MS since 1982, and now 68. Did all that fun stuff with diet, weight bearing exercise and taking care of myself. New primary md ordered a dexa scan, results were horrifying but does explain a 2' fall that shattered the ball of my hip down into the femur. The fix was an infusion of Reclast. Hope that and the extra 600 of daily calcium work to keep what's left intact.
Diagnosed osteoporosis in 2018, improved to osteopenia in 2020 (due to supplements, including coefficients calcium, D3, k2 and magnesium glycinate, and weight bearing exercise), diagnosed PPMS 2021. Due another DEXA 5 months ago
This kind of happened to me, but it was VERY obvious I had broken my ankle, heard it break, foot hung like a dead fish. My pulse b/p and O2 were all normal were normal. The doctors would not let me see the X-rays because they didn't want to upset me. The medical students that saw the X-ray told me it was bad.. I kept explaining to my husband that that's kind of normal for how people with MS are treated in ER's, nope not broken enough, your fine, pat on the head.
Its so great to see these two MS Superstars together again, albeit not quite under optimal conditons. But if there were ever two guys who could make better lemonaide out of life's lemons, this is them. I'm truly sorry to hear of Stewart's misfortune. Like MRIs, HOW OFTEN should we have a DEXA scan? I passed one a few years ago, but....
Hello! Well I was diagnosed with osteoporosis last April and was told not to fall, lol, started To take MK-7 that is K2 with the D3 and last May I fell pretty hard and did Not break any bones!!! Next April I will get checked again, we will see if my bone Density improved! It is good to know that the steroids is not the cause! Thanks for the great info!!! 😊
This August I had a car accident and dislocated my arm and also had a couple fractures. I'm worried about how they will heal. I told the consultant about my ms and they asked how long I've had it. Next time I see him I will mention bone density and ask whether this will delay healing and to see if I can be referred for a bone scan. Thanks for great advice.😊
I have had the bone density test done a few years back and my primary told me I have osteopenia and he put me on the I think it starts with a p where you have to give you a shot self a shot and I was on that for about 18 months. Then he said we had to stop it cuz he can't stay on it forever. And last December I just accidentally tripped in the garage and wound up breaking my femur right up by my hip. I guess that was because my bones are thinner. I do take vitamin D3 with K2 but as far as a calcium goes because of the constipation issue I don't take that. I do some weight lifting, but I'm not very continuous on that and I need to be. I'm so sorry this happened to stew.
An orthopedic surgeon said Fosamax was bottom of the barrel. Not to take that one. ...very very informative discussion. Ive learned so much. Thank you.
Thank you for this information. I was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis when I was 55. I've always wondered why, since I didn't have any of the risk factors. Now I know!
Your video makes so much sense; I have a fragile left angle and the pain is so so difficult to explain, or even to say where exactly is, because it moves around my ankle. And it’s clicks. As I move the clicking it’s irritating. I found acupuncture to help; at a price unfortunately.
I do have osteoporosis. I increased my calcium in my work load for my bones but there’s no way in. Heck I’m gonna take those other drugs that have so many other bad side effects.
A few years ago, I was sent to do bone mineral density x-ray, and they found that I have osteopenia at the age of 30. So I was on Fosamax until I decided to plan for a baby. So now, we're just being careful and take calcium until I can do anything else.
Why is it difficult for my neurologist to diagnose me. All he says to me is , I something going on! No answers. I have osteopenia and frozen shoulder for two years now. 🤦♀️🤷♀️
Hi Dr boster. Interestingly enough I have avascular necrosis. My ortho mentioned when it was first found that autoimmune conditions can be a cause. At that time I didn’t know I had MS. It was after my hip replacement, then a few years later I had an MS exacerbation and was diagnosed
Thank you for this video Dr. B. It’s really informative. Question: if I wanted to get a bone density scan done, do you suggest I should ask my primary doctor, my MS neurologist or both? I’m so sorry this happened to Stuart. Hope he is feeling better.
I have tremendous difficulty with impact, even walking causes my legs to get wobbly and sore and weak very quickly. I have a Bellicon rebounder that I use 5 times a week for 15-20 minutes at a time...essentially a high end mini-trampoline that I bounce on very gently. Do you think this action may help with bone density, or does it need to be a more vigorous impact?

Dr. Boster, what dosages of D, K2 and calcium, and what form of calcium do you recommend?
thank you

I started taken vitamin d with vitamin k2 to help with my bone health.
Have you considered also including magnesium glycinate?

Can you do a video on ehlers-danlos syndrome and MS?

You can do it!

Now I better get my hip checked. Put that on the list...

Sorry to hear that, but it appears that the evidence does not support even a correlation between steroid use and osteoporosis
Hi from Israel interesting issue as usual I learn a lot from you Dr so I can help my daughter ❤

Wonderful... I have hyperparathyroidism also which has increased risk of thinning bones
new fear unlocked
knowing the risk allows you to take action to prevent it! you got this!
Oh these ankle sprains! How it started for me too!
Thank you Dr Boster and Stewart. So sorry Stewart that’s just horrible, as someone who has broken an ankle I have some idea how painful it is to walk on a broken bone. Thank you both for sharing this really important information! 🔥🔥💖🔥🔥
Stewart so sorry you went thru that sounds absolutely awful. So glad I came across this so thank you for sharing this.
No worries
I'm sorry you had to go through all of that.
The last time I walked ometatarsal, I stepped in a divot, broke a couple of metatarsals, tore a tendon, fell, and was stalked by a cricket. 🙂
Great Monday morning video. I look forward to these. Thanks Dr B and Stuart - man what a story. You are a tough SOB!!
Yes he is!
Terrifying I was just dx with arthritis

I passed one a few years ago, but....
At 46 can I get a bone density test done by my doctor?

Thanks for the information about osteoporosis, especially since I was always told it was resulting from
All the steroids!!❤

Thank you/-very interesting!
Glad it was helpful!
I fractured my spine in February.
got osteopenia!! i hate this MS
Excellent....
Thanks a lot
Wow 😢😢😮😮😮❤❤❤
This information is so good to know . 👍Thank you Dr Boster
Glad it was helpful!
I like walking and tracking my steps with my fitbit. Climbing stairs is a great exercise.
Can you do a video of why we don't combine two ms medications with different michinasim
Dr Boster how does steroid use for relapses and to prevent infusion reactions fit into this issue?
How much calcium, vitamin d and k2 is recommended?
I have tremendous difficulty with impact, even walking causes my legs to get wobbly and sore and weak very quickly. I have a Bellicon rebounder that I use 5 times a week for 15-20 minutes at a time...essentially a high end mini-trampoline that I bounce on very gently. Do you think this action may help with bone density, or does it need to be a more vigorous impact?
Dr Boster, I wanted to know how soon after their Lemtrada infusion someone can start to exercise again. Any advice?
I can't offer you specific medical advice. I would certainly ask your treating Neurologist the right answer for you!
This doesnt look like Stewart
He had to clean up his act to get thru Customs possibly😅
