Before I graduated, my bus driver was also a cop. He he like 4 jobs and he was always played along with jokes me and my friends made. He showed up at my graduation in uniform and that was how I found out that he’s my husband’s uncle lmao.
One of the good ones. That kind of positive relationship building with the citizens is more needed than most people realize. Not only will it build the citizen's trust in the cops, but it will even build the cop's trust in the citizens they protect.
My best friend lived in a big neighborhood. We both had 2 daughters around the same age. Almost every wknd in the summer, we would play flash light tag with a few neighbors. It was so much fun. I'd love to do that again. 😊
Where i grew up parks closed at dusk. They were pretty strict. They let a lot slide but this would be probably be broken up. But since they aren't drinking, from the sound of it, and weren't vandalizing anything. So the cop earned major respect. Thats the only thing i could think of except for loitering or a noise ordinance violation. But all minor offences. Still a good story for the thread. We need more police like this.
In rough neighborhoods like the one i grew up in that makes total sense. Because if the one i grew up by wasn't padlocked after dark then somebody would come by and steal all the bulbs out of the lights in the park, and others would vandalize the equipment. Sometimes it's just easier to put a curfew on public property than have to repair it daily
I love cops like this who actually observe the situation and act accordingly because in order to serve and protect you need to gain trust of the citizens

You didn't want to get on his bad side but if you weren't an idiot and generally stayed outta trouble you were good. He was like the dad of the police force in my town and totally would have done something like this lol
That was Shawn the sheep for us he was so sound when we were camping at our football/soccer field he saw the gate was open and wanted to make sure it wasn’t being robbed so he drove up saw us all camping and then called us all over to him and we were all quite young so a lot of kids thought they were in trouble but I knew Shawn the sheep my entire life so I went over to him and he pulled out those glow stick things and I mean he pulled out like 200 of them and just started handing them out and as soon as kids saw that everyone was there speaking to him and shit it was so fun he ended up giving me a bag of them and I just walked around the camp putting them on people and everyone would thank me after I did it was so fun and the reason I called him Shawn the sheep was because his name was Shawn and he looked like the farmer from Shawn the sheep 😂

Dump it out/dispose of it properly and warm the kid about not doing it anymore that next time they will have to go to juvenile/get a ticket ECT. Meanwhile other cops would arrest a kid just because they were hanging out with a kid who was drinking, even if they blew 0.00
Ahh brings me back to when my siblings and I were staying with some family and my mom's cousins took us to do that with their friends. Always had fun with mom's side of the family 😂

I wish this is how life was, I'm 16 with my best friend being 17 and we go outside a lot and play like 12 and 13 but now that's crazy to some people... It is always a really good time too, but kids my age never even try it again... And then it's a memory lost to time, and I'm really glad I won't be losing that memory when I'm with my friend...
