Lake Wobegon will be a big chunk out of our lives as told by the master storyteller. Who doesn't like to sit back and have a wonderful story being painted in your mind? No one can do it like you, our precious Garrison. I will always feel gypped that I can only find you on re-runs, and my trusty CDs. I have learned by heart "What it would be like, if you were mine." and will sing it with you till I can no longer sing.
This has certainly been the year for saying goodbye to old friends in the media and entertainment. Will. Miss Garrison's plain-spoken incisive wit, his duets, his hilarious sketches and his Mark Twain-ish wisdom. His voice helped me relax on weekends since the early 70's. It gave me a feeling of comfort and continuity.
I love Garrison, and will miss you greatly. When I was in the Air Force, you could get Prairie Home Companion almost everywhere you were stationed, and it reminded you of everything you were working for. You were fighting for places like Lake Wobegon, which was a microcosm of what you believed in. You were there to save all the places back home where the women were strong, the men were good looking, and all the children were above average.
Just because Lake Wobegon exists only in the imagination does not mean it isn't a real place. And the imaginary people who live there - Clint and Irene Bunsen, Father Emil, the Krebsbachs, Senator K. Thorvaldson, Mr. Berge, Pastor Ingqvist, Daryl Tolerud - are far more real than some actual people I know. Thank you Garrison Keillor for giving us this wonderful place where we can see the sorrows, the pleasures, the tragedies, the disappointments of everyday life play themselves out. Actually, we all live in lake Wobegon, and Garrison Keillor taught us to laugh at ourselves.
Had the privilege of meeting him at Le Croissant d'Or in New Orleans during Mardi Gras this year. Always enjoyed his shows on public radio since the 80's.Will be missed.
It won't be the same without Garrison, he was the master story teller. There will be some skits that will have to disappear including News From Lake Wobegon. I wouldn't even want to hear that being done by anyone but Garrison. To quote a line from an Art Garfunkel song " Endings always come at last, endings always come too fast. They come to fast, but they pass too slow" Thanks for the memories, and the great entertainment, and GOOD LUCK !!!!

here are the limericks he recited: A Young Fellow from Pocatello, said why is my urine bright yellow. was it something I ate, or could it be kate who i dated on saturday, HELLO! a young fellow answered an ad and was hired and said i'm so glad, to be given the chance, i could pee in my pants and we looked and we saw that he had. i used to do avant-garde dance, with a blow torch, blue paint and no pants, which some people guessed was genius and the rest left quickly when given the chance there is an old man of st. paul, put his desk in a toilet stall it was quiet, conducive, and one had the use of the plumbing with no wait at all a young baptist lady of aspen, fell down groanin' and gaspin' she thought she'd been bit by a snake on her tit but it was her sunday school class pin.
These are mild. The air force limericks my dad told are much worse. He's about the same age as Garrison I guess, passed away last year... Here's one of them: There once was a guy from Boston Who drove to town in an Austin There was room for his a*s and a gallon o' gas, but his b*lls hung out and he lost 'em!! 🤕 The other one is too nasty even to repeat here... Americana?? 😂

Living in Carrington, ND I listened to Hobbes House for years. Franklin Hobbes had one of the best voices, and played some of best music of the day.
