Great video, Mary! I'm from Erie, lived in Edinboro for many years, and wish more people would promote Erie as a great place to live! At the moment, I'm in China, and I'm so homesick, I was looking on CZcams for Erie-related videos, and I watched your 5 Great Reasons clip. I hope to be back in a couple months! (Believe it or not, I miss that snow! Love it!)

As of the fall of 2023, I wouldn't recommend moving to Erie unless you have a home ahead of the relocation. The weather is harsh in the winter. 50% of the population lives below the poverty line, it's nearly impossible to find an apartment rental, and public transportation isn't good so virtually everyone drives.
But there is a fabulous arts community, the city is diverse as far as race, and there are fun things to do if you have the time and money to pursue them. Lake Erie is gorgeous there are other cities along the lake, not just Erie.
They call Erie the mistake on the lake. But I find it nicer than Buffalo or Cleveland which have similar names. Winters suck but the rest is manageable!
Erie is unlike any city other city in Pennsylvania they have beaches and some very nice beaches the traffic is manageable but be aware if you're finding yourself on the east side of Erie at night this may be unbenifical to life so I've heard
You're right about the east side, but truthfully most of the west side isn't much better and has been getting progressively worse the last several years or so.
If we can get that job in st.vincents.. were moving to erie.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it. Erie School District is one of the worst districts in all of Pennsylvania. If you're looking for good schools, look in Millcreek, Harborcreek, or elsewhere in Erie County.

I wish you all the best! I sincerely hope you like it here and have fun. I'm saving my money and leaving Erie soon to go elsewhere with better opportunities, better weather, and an overall better quality of life. But by all means, don't let anyone discourage you. Erie could very well turn out to be your happy place, and I hope it does.

This might sound crazy ,I am moving there from San Diego,CA ..the people in San Diego are plastic they are not real folks and plus they are "socialism" and I heard Erie is down to Earth folks.....PS: Snow and cold is nothing new to me because I grow up in Boston...

You are mostly correct about Erie people. Yes, you have nutjobs on both sides of the political spectrum here as well, but compared to California folks here are generally more humble, a lot more polite, and aren't very pretentious or fake.
However, Erie is one of those places where everybody knows everybody else and their business, everyone grew up and graduated from high school together, they all belong to the same private social clubs that are scattered throughout the city, and if you're not from here you're going to have a very hard time fitting in. I'll put it to you like this, since you're from Boston. It would be like me packing up and moving to Southie or East Boston and expecting to make friends overnight.
