I enjoy the format and content, thank you Norman. OK I'm not soldering missile systems very often. However its still good to be familiar this stuff as it maybe applicable elsewhere.

At 4:25 you mention that in case of a gold plating on the cup, it is necessary to first remove the gold layer through dissolving it in solder, twice, because the alloy would create a brittle connection. Does that mean that gold plated PCBs are not suitable for high reliability soldering?

They can be soldered but require special handling. You can also use an indium and lead solder alloy. It is very expensive, a hundred dollars or more and you aren't getting a nice 1 lb. roll, just a few feet. The problem is the tin, it causes the gold to be scavenged.
