Not everyone is the same height. My measurements from my shoulder (back of my neck) to the floor is only 52 inches, I'm less than five feet tall. For a kaftan I'm not going to trip over, I would need to buy fabric that is 2 x 52" long and 60" wide. 2 x 52 = 104" or simply divided by 36" into 104" = 1.44 yds. x 2 means that I would only need to buy LESS THAN 3 YDS of fabric, so why would I buy more fabric than I need? What I would need for a kaftan is only 2 x 1.44 yds. = less than less than 3 yds. or 2.88 yds.
