BuzzFeed Unsolved Network i love how Shane has worn the same jean jacket the past few eipsodes.... i’m starting to think he has nothing else in his closet
i can kinda relate though

#ROASTmortem Shane's still bitter because his parents couldn't tell he'd been replaced by a big-headed, spindly-legged parrot (so HE ATE IT)
#PostMortem Can you say “All Hail the Watcher” again?

Why did the mother wait so long to report her son missing? Nobody truly knows, but there certainly shouldn't be a reason for her to wait that long. Unless he went out for multiple days by himself but it doesn't make much sense......the mother might be at fault here for waiting so long, especially because of a recent murder of another young child.

You know how the older generations say "it was so much safer in my day" idk if thats true, i just think since media wasn't so big as now, they just didn't know of it.
Yea, they say that because they were literal children at the time, so they wouldnt be up on the crimes and politics of the time. Their main memories of that time are movies and shows, because they can actually revisit those nice and prettified interpretations of the past. Its a mass market whitewashed Hallmark dream, not what was actually reality. People say that y/z arent "ready for the real world," when they cant even agree on whats Real or just what theyre used to being fed from reruns and TCM
This is 100% accurate. Crime rates have gone down, especially violent crimes (in the US). But news was very much localized then and nobody was being subjected to a 24 hour news cycle from all over the world. The world isn't more dangerous at all, we're just now aware of HOW dangerous it is.
They were much more ignorant
But as the proverb goes" Ignorance is bliss"
that's exactly the case. the world is safer today than it's ever been, by literally every metric. it's just that information travels so fast now that we hear about every terrible thing that happens all over the world, whereas before you would only hear about major crimes that happened in your area or the ones that made the national news or something.

What’s annoying about this is if the LAPD accepted from the start that it was truly not her son, there’s a possibility that they won’t be too late to be able to find Walter still alive at the chicken coop.
100%, Northcott spent a very long time abiding the boys before killing them, if he killed them at all. If the LAPD spent their time focusing on this case and well as other cases that ended up being connected to Northcott, it’s likely they could have found him alive.
Seems that the police can't exist without any kind of scandal going on.
Even today, equally tragic events are taking place and the police are shown as the villains behind them. Whatever happened to their motto of "protect and serve"

@@tinaffable toxic masculinity believes otherwise.🫡
I literally cried at the scene where Christine Collins was finally released from the mental hospital where they all accused her to be insane cause of the fact she refused to believe it wasn’t her son. And she broke down when learning that Walter was one of the victims at the chicken farm. A mother always knows. Sad.
There's a part in the movie where Christine locks eyes with a prostitute that gets released from the mental ward under the same code as her, I believe. (It was very easy to write off women as mentally unstable then and to punish them for it). Christine helps to get her and others out and it's one of my favorite parts because they don't speak to each other, there's just a respect there.
Walter was never confirmed to be in the chicken farm. wtf are you talking about?
@@anonymousperson3023I assume they’re talking about a scene in the movie Changeling, with Angelina Jolie as Christina Collins, it’s based on this case. No they never proved he was there but I think that’s the publicly accepted fate of Walter Collins at this point. The nephew of the man that killed the boys identified Walter as one of the victims. I believe they did in fact tell her in real life that Walter died there, but she later said she kept up hope because a child who they thought was murdered there had been misidentified and later came forward. So she believed maybe her son was still out there alive and the police made a mistake.

Regarding deathbed confessions, John Wayne Gacy proclaimed he was innocent right before he was executed... So, ya know, when dealing with serial killers with severely abnormal psychology, I'm not sure much weight can be given to the whole "deathbed confession" thing
Deathbed confessions are admissible in court in the state of Texas not sure about California though
John Wayne Gacy was guilty, they found bodies on his property and he was even caught in the act
@@michaelmckinnon1591 yes he was 100% guilty. He even confessed. That was precisely my point

I like to think that none of us get away with our poor actions, it's just that karma can be slow to take effect and other people don't always get to see it. It would be nice if J.J. had apologised to Christine. In the movie in the court scenes toward the end, the actor playing J.J. did a good job of subtly showing signs of guilt so I wonder if the real J.J. felt any remorse for his actions.

It was long prior to DNA testing - they could identify with fingerprints and dental records, but that wouldn’t be enough to solidly identify the victims if the remains were just bones by that point.

I currently live in Mira Loma and got to see the same house about 5 mins away. Mira Loma this decade has went from lots of dried up cattle farmland and middle aged homes to thousands of modern homes and warehouses such as Costco and Amazon. I'm pretty surprised that no one here or in SoCal know about Mira Loma's history, The house doesn't even have any historical plaques to honor the poor kids. It's just another home. And what's funny is that the house sold in 2009 and the realtor included the chicken coops as an included feature. Mira Loma was recently incorporated to Jurupa Valley, but we still use both city names in our mailing addresses. This city's infrastructure is nicer than what many people think of it today.

The day of: “Oh no my sons missing!”
Five days later: “Oh no he’s still missing!”
So from what I understand from reading more into the case, the mother initially thought that her son was taken by someone that was involved with Walter’s father, who was in prison. She went on her own for a few days, trying to see if someone was trying to get back at her husband or if her husband had maybe even organized it. Once she was able to eliminate those, then she went to the police.

Ryan: Afraid of ghosts, demons and getting abducted by aliens
Shane: Afraid of getting addicted to Heroin, choking on Avocado pit, Ricky Goldsworth and Chicken farms 😂
Shane's also scared of teeth (that episode where the girl for her teeth knocked out)
Wasn’t it the white phantom case
Okay but I think everyone should be afraid of heroin addiction
@@BigDickNate2460 But not getting poked with a needle by someone else and immediately getting addicted.
I thought I was the only one who was scared of getting attacked by a junkie who wants to inject me heroine. I even had a nightmare about this once.
There was a movie made about this. Super sad. It’s called Changeling
Back then they still had the "72 hour" rule for reporting missing persons. But I agree it's still weird that she waited an additional two days to report to the police. You'd think a worried mother would be there right when the 72 hours were up, waiting outside to go report him missing.
I reckon she probably hoped he would just come home in those extra few days, was just out on an adventure with friends or something, and just wanted to do her own research by asking around before going to the police as a last resort. Maybe she didn't want to trouble the police or admit to herself that something more sinister had happened, plus back then there was more judgement against single mothers so maybe Christine was hesitant to deal with the police for that reason.

There's a movie based on this case. Angelina Jolie stars as the mother, it's called "Changeling" it's absolutely terrifying, would highly recommend!
Really?, i did not know that!
Ryan: Don’t look up this man.

I guess I'll do the same.

"Theres no reason for him to lie"
no, they mean there's no reason for _sanford_ to lie
@@mooble1325 They also said that there was no reason for Gordon to lie on his deathbed
I swear “Changeling” was one of the creepiest movies I’ve ever seen. It just disturbing, it kinda screwed with my head.
I love how being locked in a psych ward isn’t considered “abuse” until someone is proven to not be mentally ill. Because abusing mentally ill people is perfect fine!!!

@Brittany Bennett Women who didnt completely abide by societal rules were treated as mentally ill. Yes mentally ill people in general were treated inhumanely, but women were a large portion of that and faced gender-specific issues with regard to asylums. Over all it was a bad time for anyone who wasnt a straight, white, neurotypical man.
AsHLiegH-MaRie HoPe This still happens to this day, every single day. There is no law against it.

There's actually a movie entitled Changeling, it's based on a true story of Ms. Christine Collins and Walter Collins. Angelina Jolie played as Christine Collins
J.J. Jones is the neutral evil/bad cop antagonist to C.C. Tinsely’s chaotic good private investigator protagonist
C.C. Tinsely the man the legend
Plot twist: The boy was actually Bobby Dunbar.
*gasp*
Plot twist : they're twins separated at birth.
Woah!
@It’s Wednesday My dudes Bar
im pretty sure they used the same picture for both of them lmao
This case was the plot of the Clint Eastwood movie 'The Changeling' from 2008 starring Angelina Jolie.
in the book the road out of hell, the nephew that gordon forced to help with the murders tells how walter was killed along with many others. really sad book but it is the most accurate when it comes to this case since the nephew was actually there.
The whole, "Mom not recognizing her son" thing reminds me of the Bobby Dunbar case.
yes!!
Patrick Loftis i JUST watched that video, too 😂
I come here after watching that video

I thought the "test" was:

Arthur: Yes.

I wonder what came of him?
The Changeling movie freaked me out. I remember watching that movie and having to stop watching because I was so disturbed
When Shane said "a lot of red flags", I thought he was going to mention how a 9 year old is wandering by themselves.
I’m seeing endgame tonight and I swear if I vanish on my way there...
edit: i’m still alive but after that i’m not so sure getting kidnapped/killed would’ve been that bad

This story actually spawned the creation of the film "Changeling" , it follows this story quite closely, almost word for word, and even includes a creepily charming rendition of Gordon Northcott, who even looks eerily similar to the real life man. If you didn't know the true happenings, this would seem like a creatively made crime film, but having watched this, when Northcott popped up on screen and was seen talking to the kids in the film, I couldn't help but feel awful.
I read the book written by the serial killer's nephew who was a victim. The man Gordon Northcott was a total a-hole and just as mean and evil as you can believe, so I could totally believe he would string the mother along and then refuse to see her claiming he never saw the boy. He was the most despicable thing on two legs and loved torturing people so knowing he hurt the mother was probably a turn in to him.
Christine: I’m not sure if he’s my so-
J.J Jones: YOU FOOL!
I KNOW MY JOB YOU CRUEL WOMAN. LOOK! THE DOG WAGGED ITS TAIL! YOU INCOMPETENT MOTHER!
You fool. You absolute buffoon. Do you dare to challenge me in this realm?
