You Got To Have A Job (If You Don’t Work, You Can’t Eat) is a song by Marva Whitney & James Brown
The godfather of soul R.I.P
This song is so Prophetic just listen to what James Brown is saying it's like he's still Alive seeing what's going today; Mind Power.
BLACK FOLKS WE GETTER GET BETTER WITH THE MIND POWER. STOP KILLING EACH OTHER. THATS WHY THE KLU KLUX KLOWN DONE RETIRED OR PUT THEIR ROBES DOWN TO BECOME JUDGES, COPS, DISTRICT ATTORNEYS ETC. WAKE UP❗❗❗
First there was James Brown and then Parliament Funkadelic, that's what it was.
Remember Bootsy Collins played in his band.

The best of the best of soul music

Yeah, every track 👍
Mind Power was my favorite cut on the vinyl Payback album but when I bought it sound on CD in 2014 I was surprised to hear the solo of Fred Wesley on the last minute of the music I said wow just think in the 70s that would have been more heavy
My favorite tune from The Payback album ✌🏿

James Brown made the ole heavy cars dance back in the days, going to Brooklyn NY to see my grandfather, hitting the bumps and hills on the highway, all our heads would be wobbling to the beat, in a loaded station wagon !!!
Lol. Like James Brown would say where you from brother. I was born and raised in the northeast but my parents roots were Durham North Carolina THE BULL CITY!

A Legendary Great Song, Great Edit, Great Mix! Excellent Job!!
Thanks Tod, glad you like it 👍
I wonder where Clyde stubberfield was doing this time….. even on the hot pants album. Strange because I remember some interviews where Jabo was saying during these times he was growing tired of James and the drama stuff….
CLYDE WAS GONE BY THIS TIME IT WAS JUST JABO,CLYDE START DOIN LOCAL SHHH IN BARS MAKIN ENDS MEET
Jabo left in '75
Stubblefield left the band and was playing behind a chick named MAXINE. It’s hard finding the album. James was hard on the drummers. He loved the third drummer with The James Brown Band . ( Melvin Parker.) That was Maceo’s brother. Melvin can be heard on the song , Let A Man Come In And Do The Popcorn. I think the drummer on this song is Jabo Starks although he mentions John Morgan , who was another drummer coming up in the JB’s . From my understanding, He showed up around the time Clyde left. A lot of the James Brown Band walked out on James. Jabo was with James when Fred Westley took over as band director. I was on the road playing and was going through Wichita, Ks. The James Brown Show got snowed out. Fred, Jabo , and myself got in my car and went and got some dinner. My favorite James Brown Band was the lineup from 1967 to 1970. That was one of the tightest bands on the planet according to the Magazine Downbeat.
You're right but it actually started around 1964 and went on through till early 1975. They were done about that time but believe me they were the BADDEST BAND IN THE WORLD AND NOBODY COULD TOUCH THEM WITH A 1000 FOOT STICK!!!!!
Clyde did indeed leave the band in 1970 for a few minutes but he returned for a few minutes to join BOOTSY AND CATFISH and then left again for good. Let me say this, on every single job that you work there will always be some strife. What seems to be left out by complaining band members is the fact that you traveled around the world. Do they have any idea of the millions of people that will never ever be able to do that! I've worked many jobs in my life and I'm older now, but ALL OF THE JOBS WERE NO WHERE NEAR PERFECT, SO TO COMPLAIN LIKE IT WAS ALL BAD IS FOOLISH. YOUR NEEDS WERE MET AND I DIDN'T SEE ANY OF JAMES BROWN'S BAND MEMBERS SUFFERING FROM LACK OF FOOD. THERE IS TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY. I'M NOT EXCUSING MR BROWN BUT THEY WERE MEMBERS OF THE BADDEST BAND IN THE UNIVERSE!!!!! THAT IS A FACT. DISCIPLINE IS WHAT MAKES YOU A CUT ABOVE EVERYONE ELSE 💯
The struggle
He lost his son taxes was on his azz ..mind power... fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 ii 1972..
If you ever wanted a pure definition of what fuck is. just play this song!
This song is off the Big Payback Album......1973....
Love it man! Still hoping to get the missing piece between the fade on this one and the beginning of Make It Funky: The Big Payback version. This one fades out on a Fred Wesley solo during an extra 2 minutes that wasn’t on the original LP.
