The Psychology of The Wounded Healer

  • The wounded healer refers to the capacity to be at home in the darkness of suffering and there to find germs of light and recovery. It is the archetype at the bottom of all genuine healing procedures. As long as we feel victimised, bitter and resentful towards our wound, and seek to escape from suffering it, we remain inescapably bound to it. This is neurotic suffering, as opposed to the authentic suffering of the wounded healer which is purified. The wound can destroy you, or it can wake you up. As Carl Jung wrote, "The doctor is effective only when he himself is affected. Only the wounded physician heals."

You haven't quite got the understanding correct.
The wounded healer fits in with the Hero's Journey too.
What you've missed is the healer returns from spiritual transcendent experience, shown with Christ, prior to crucifixion, he had already died to the seperate self, the story of Jesus is of an ancient desert priest, proven with the 40 nights in the desert alone, severe fasting and meditating.
It's why Himalayan Monks suffer so much to Realise all alone in the mountains, fasting and meditating for years
Extreme suffering leads to surrender, surrender leads to self-transcendent mystical union at-one-ment in Heaven and in that liberating rapture is realised the absolute cure, 'elixir' for humanities dis-ease, the dis-ease causing suffering, is yes self-conscious fearful awareness and is overcome in transcendence to realise being purely lovingly unself-centred again, released from the mind-body complex association, liberated from the associated psycho-soma, to know the absolute ecstatic joy of the eternal present moment again, again because it's 'like a child perceives' but the difference in pure awareness returned is the conscious understanding of it and so an eternity of unconditionally loving understanding with it 🌞💖👼👁️

I have the body of a warrior, and the mind of a scholar, but the heart of a gardener. I am loathe to see the ugliness and suffering in the world, but that is where I must go, for that is where gardens are most needed. God bless all who are in the process of finding themselves.

I fell from what seemed like grace from an apparently perfect spiritual community and ended up locked up in a nasty place for two years. Having gone through it I am now starting to garden in a deprived part of town where people desperately need good affordable food. I think that teaching children and young people how to grow their own food is essential. If each of us could just grow a little food it would make a vast difference, in my humble opinion.

She had herself checked up, her doctor injected medication which she had an adverse reaction to and she died of anaphylactic shock. You could help a lot if it's you or destiny. Obviously grieve how you need to.

I’m sorry you decided to withdraw from med school, but thankful that you still have an opportunity to be a healer, should you so choose. It doesn’t have to be through such traditional means as a western medical degree. Our System is quite full of itself right now and frankly.. quite broken. But being a healer is about helping others through their suffering, healing whenever possible and bringing others into a more healthful outlook. I bet you are already doing that somehow, but if not, consider the possibilities.. or not 🤷‍♀️, just choose for yourself, and let go of any regrets about your choices, if you are at peace with them.

In the beginning of my practice I have assisted in prosecuting medical malpractice cases. But I have since then learned to let go of my biases and grudges. Like you, I have come to realize that the system is broken. In my country, so many of those in the medical profession are overworked, underpaid, and their hard work and sacrifice unappreciated. I had to hold back my own tears until I got home. After that point we shared a psychic connection and could communicate through eye contact. Her healing was not finished, but my role was complete. I am an artist at heart and I am in the middle of a novel that's been in the making for almost 5 years, I almost feel like this video was meant for me on several levels. Not just for my own philosophies in my waking life but also for the whole premise of my book. I swear to God I only just now watched this video and almost every single subject covered in the video down to the symbolisms and meaning of the quotes, I have mentioned down pact as if I used this video as reference. I have never seen this in my life and I am somewhat convinced I have the wisdom of someone powerful. Nobody knows me yet and im sure not many people will hear me, but I swear if these teachings were conjured by pure philosophers wayyyyyy ahead of my time and I've never looked into alot of their teachings but somehow managed to find a video that could explain the main premise of my book to the tea?? Oh trust me, someone will see how legendary this comment is one day once my knowledge comes out.

This strikes a chord with me. For a long time, due to PTSD from abuse, neglect, and loss, I've gained myself a savior complex, wherein I saw myself as a martyr, forever bound to my suffering in the hopes of sparing others from the same fate as I, a Prometheus to warn his children. Unfortunately, I found myself being arrogant, trying to help those even though they didn't want to be helped, forcing my will upon them without being considerate of their own needs versus my own. Although I didn't value my own life, I tried utilizing my savior complex to justify my existence, in the hopes I could achieve happiness by helping others, but at the expense of my own. It's taken me a long time to realize that ultimately, there's only so much I can do. Now...I question...am I a wounded healer?

You are. I believe you are. You fell into the same neurotic thing I did. My problem was the selfish broken people around me. They choose to run from themselves and place blame on me. It molded me into a person whose life was worthless, but so desperately wanted to heal others. I have come to the realization that, it's me. I have the power to forgive myself. To value me. No one will do this for me, it'd be wrong as well, as it's not really me.
I have forgiven myself. 28 years of this misery has turned into something I know is good but so foreign to me.
And now, I take proverbial inventory of myself. The drive in my heart, body, mind, and soul is still there. I want to help the less fortunate, because I can feel the pain that they feel.
      It's my nature.
      It's our nature.

The rigors of the unfoldment of your curative powers (which aren't yours but God's), is soothed with the balms of knowing that all knees will bend, eventually. Sit back and witness their suffering. Be compassionate but proffer no solutions. Jesus Christ did not go around and heal people who did not ask for it. It is amazing how deep some people's bottom is! This must be hit for them to be willing to be willing. I have tried to lead the suffering, particularly my immediate family, to "the still waters" and it has only lead me to frustration and resentment. My cause had the effect on them which resulted either in their mocking criticism or their deep seated enmity. Take your pick, lol. Physician heal thyself and thy presence will be a continuous state of benediction to those who know not who we are, or what we are, or why. Let them come to you when they're willing to do whatever it takes, broken of their own self will and ego. Only the willing.

Essentially our own struggles and wounds can actually serve as a source of strength and empathy in helping others. Our own struggles are not just inconveniences to overcome, they are a tool for our own growth and ability to heal others. Challenges are the checkpoints we face in our own becoming.

I thank you for bringing Mircea Eliade, and the great Karl Kerényi to light too, especially Kerényi had a huge influence on Jung, and anyone truly interested in Jungs work should read some of his works in my opinion, he and Jung did write a book together, about the Divine Child, and the Mother/Maiden Archetypes. The Divine Child could be a future theme for a video suggestion. I dont know if you are aware of this but Jung in a letter wrote that Henry Corbin, the french philosopher and theologist, had gave him, Jung, the rarest gift, the gift of being completely understood, that statement alone should spark some interest for further investigation. Thanks for making these videos, you are again and again taking them to another level, Jungs work is filled with so many branches of different fields and thought, and you have succeeded in bringing that wide diversity of the arts and thought into a whole, and that is remarkable. A life of comfort cultivates no desire for the improvements needed for oneself or others.
Only pain and discomfort prompts the motivation to seek healing of previously unknown ailments.
Comfort provides contentment and tolerance of living in a lower state of being.
One living in depression simply recognizes what ails the world and feels a helpless need to fix it.
Allow yourself to feel negativity but do not allow it to consume you.
Every problem you solve for yourself is also solved for another who hasn't yet found their answer.
Helplessness is only a feeling; Not a reality. It often takes a journey to find the best help that's needed for complete resolve.
If answers were always delivered there would be no use in ever seeking.
Discovery of what doesn't work for a thing often resolves another problem yet to be encountered. This provides the quickest resolve and path of future endeavors.
Learn to be tolerant of the unresolved but never content with the unfinished. Building a fortress starts by gathering individual bricks.
The smallest of flame will still evaporate your water. Never forget about the pot on the backburner.
Treat problems with love and healing. Others are more likely to lend their own love in assistance. Hatred only prompts a scattered discard earning someone else's resentment for the mess you've left for them.
If a problem prevents you from filling another's expectations, let your desires be known for both your issue and their own. 'Help me help you' fulfills the need to be needed, which everyone has but often forgets in our pursuit of contentment.
Trying to help yet failing reaps a lesson well-learned but failing to try can reap nothing but regret.
Some problems are like fixing a clock on a deadline. Procrastination can only risk failure. Always prioritize your more-pressing concerns.

I've noticed this in myself, I know the origin of my suffering, but rather than accepting the wound, I instead continue to dwell on the suffering. Thinking, replaying, reimagining, each time making it take new forms. It's the feeling of if I let go and confront it, what then? It's scary. I look at others even my so-called antagonizers and see the same thing. We all share a common tragedy, which is the deviation from the ideal state, it is heartbreaking. Life happens to and changes everyone, for better or for worse. But I guess that's the ultimate gift of humanity, through the tragedy we reinforce each other. There's no shortage of things to bring a man down, but together we've always shouldered the burden. It's a thing of beauty.

Life doesn’t “happen” to us. Things happen, but we have a say in how we handle it. You explained for yourself exactly what you are doing that is causing you more pain. Just do the opposite. Don’t focus on fear, accept it, and do the right thing for yourself anyway. Not as a favor to you, but as a favor to the world, and to whomever interacts with you or crosses your path. We don’t have the right to experiment with life, in this way. You know why, you know what, so stop. Stop allowing your brain the space to wallow. Get busy. Learn something new, occupy that time, with something mildly productive. Cleaning, a hobby, reading. Learn other things, grow in simple ways. Stop believing you have the right to wallow. None of us does.

This channel is golden. Pain is the only way to find meaning in existence for which peace is the only cloth for the cold reality that there’s an end. Without destiny the only inevitable is fate. One must grasp their destiny or at least muster the will to endure life. The one who accepts fate greets destiny. The one who see through the pain. Undergoes a great metamorphosis

    • @fowchiiiliedpuppiesdied

It isn’t the only way. There are many ways, to connect with people, moments, all kinds of experiences which do not involve pain, in the least, from which we can gain meaning. Pain is one of the most jarring, and likely to create resentment, of the ways, which is why it merits addressing. The way people choose to handle it, tends to create needless pain. But pain, in and of itself, is not the point.

    • @theblackmoth1111
      @theblackmoth1111 Před rokem

@Fowchiii LIED, PUPPIES DIED how can you heal if there is no pain ? Pain is life. If you don’t address that. You then resent . There are many ways to heal but not if you don’t acknowledge the trauma that is the root. Same merit as peace. It’s not a one size fit all. But to say pain has no purpose just discredit the healing process. That’s human conditioning. If one become resentful then they become consumed by the void. Pain is a measure of growth. In this context it’s about healing. Which indicates overcoming pain so you can be able to connect with others. Pain is the point of healing my friend. You just mentioned pain as well so pain serves it’s purpose in humans. But after a while it builds walls. People connect based on that common core. We all feel sadness , pain , doubt. Which why healing is necessary so you don’t become your wounds. You can’t judge how people go about healing. Nor can you really grasp how pain can alter a person. Which makes HEALING come forth. The wounded healer knows suffering so that’s why they promote peace. By acknowledging and realizing the pain people harbor within them. Even if they don’t speak on it. A healed soul knows a healed soul by its familiarity.
