for those who don't know and aren't looking to go listen to Distractible (which you really should, it’s as chaotic as you expect anything to be when these three are together and it’s great), Mark has apparently recently realized that he eats food without actually tasting it. He just wolfs it down. So he's been making it his mission to eat slower and actually contemplate the taste, which has led him to realize that some foods that he thought were his favorites don't taste all that good (I.e. chipotle)
Mark was scared of the snail because he took the deal. That explains why he's a successful youtuber. And that explains why he's a masochist. After being alive for so long, he just wants to feel something.

for anybody that doesn't know - the platforms covered in food seem to be a reference to "the platform", a spanish film about a group of people - people that chose to participate in the experiment, mind you - stuck inside a deep hole divided into multiple hundreds of levels, with who is on what floor cycled around every 30 days
all of them are kept alive via a platform of freshly-prepared food, selected by the participants before they joined, provided on the titular platform, which slowly lowers down level by level through a hole in the center
they can't keep the food, they only get 1 personal item to bring into the hole, and as the platform descends, less and less food remains for the people below
it touches on a lot of topics, not to mention being a fascinatingly fucked-up depiction of class, and pyrocynical made a neat video dissecting it if you don't want to or aren't able to watch it
