Yea, saw a guy test a starter with a battery on a bench once. All I heard was whing whing(starter sound)...........kaboom!! Apparently the top of the battery was cracked. Battery acid was dripping off of the ceiling and everything else. I couldn't stop laughing. Hydrogen is a bitch.
If ya terminal is that rooted, then the charging capacity is probably done too- but fa real flames and batteries aren't a good mix l- even on old led-acid ones

Some people Don’t bother looking after their cars . Battery lug can come loose if not tightened and the pole just deteriorates. Happens a lot. Well hopefully not any more less garages now and less cowboy garages !
Lack of an explosion doesn’t mean it was a safe operation, it means you got lucky. Batteries are cheap, buy one with a good post and don’t risk everybody’s life around you.

Общее напряжение 60 В. Две группы батарей. Так вот соединяли клеммы между собой свинцовыми пластинами также спаивая это всё в помещении. Задолго до работ включали вытяжку и всё время с ней работали. ЧП не было

Imagine what is in every electrical connection.......resistance....right......resistance manifests its presence through heat.......right.......oil when it gets hot gets thin........right.....thin hot oil gets drawn into the connection where it begins to burn.........the resistance in the connection increases as the led is burned and melted away.....right......right put lots of grease and oil.on your battery connecrions, they will no longer corrode. They will however turn black and exhibit increased resistance .. . .

The thing here is that once upon a time it was very common to get a battery pole repaired. For a load of reasons batteries get damaged etc. Worked in electrical & diesel garage. There was a special area dedicated to charging and repairing batteries- car / tractors etc. We had a guy in there all the time fixing and charging batteries. It was well ventilated for all the gases coming out of batteries etc. Times change. Batteries for cars ain’t cheap we could well be going back repairing other stuff rather than replacing - things are so expensive
Okay, folks, here it IS. If you REMOVE the filler caps, blow a flame ACROSS each cell, NOT INTO, u burn off gases. I worked for a battery company & melted many of posts on LARGER batteries like 4D & 8D batteries (batteries weighing over 100 lbs! U farmers/construction guys know these batteries. We never cut off totally, just melted lead into post. U just heat mold a little.
That will work if the battery sits in the sho and never put in a vehicle. The vibrations from the vehicle will cause to detach. Drive a screw or two into the lead before pouring the molten lead into it. It reinforces the lead the same way rear does to concrete. I'm speaking from actual experience.
I'd clean up the post into a cone, not remove it. then slip the mould over the remaining post and pour in the new lead. this will be stronger and much less dangerous

Работал на Грузовиках и часто приходилось в походных условиях делать, кстати научили старые водители ещё в 70ых годах. Берём графитовый стержень делаем один край острый как карандаш, другой край стержня делаем канавку и прикручиваем провод, один край провода прикручиваем к целой клеме, когда вы касаетесь с минуса на плюс стержень накаляется до красна и может плавить свинец ставим формачку на обгаревшую клему и клему плавим с цвинцом и ваша клема будет новенькой работает на все 100 процентов и ничего не отваливается более чем надёжно.
Полная херня. Достаточно формы под клемму и куски свинца. Плавишь свинец, фиксируешь форму ровно и заливаешь. Единственное условие - хорошо прогреть жидкий свинец, хотя бы на 100° выше температуры плавления. Нагретый свинец расплавит верхний слой остатка клеммы и все застынет не хуже завода

I am disturbed by the use of angle grinder to cut the old terminal off. Lead is nasty toxic stuff and best not to throw tiny pieces of it everywhere. Also the next place the grinder is used will also be contaminated. I would use a hacksaw and clean up carefully afterwards, making sure the lead sawdust was added to to the melting pot. A very sharp chisel might do an even better job.

Batteries if they have a dead cell are extremely dangerous, I have saw them blow up like a stick of dynamite, so I would highly recommend replacing it.

Es buena idea hacer esto .,pero puede ser muy peligroso si se usa flama habierta como en este caso( por el contenido químico de la batería). Y no es necesario cortar el poste ., únicamente es rellenar lo que que le haga falta para compretar la forma de este, y quede ajustada a la terminal .
I would of left the stump after a little cleaning up with a wire brush then placed the brass ring over the bad terminal then pored the led in to try and retain some of the original rigidity of the part I’m thinking it would be a little stronger instead of having a flat again flat surface to bond to .just a thought

Гораздо менее затратно при помощи силы тока акамулятора и стержня графитного от карандаша. Но тёмные очки в помощь. И это будет сварка.

Not erosion, usually it is because the terminal is loose and this causes an arc between the terminal and the post.

Add a self tapping screw first. Without it there is no shear capacity.
Hopefully the batteries aren't filled yet. Repairing empty cases.
If you ever had the top of a battery blow off, you would not try this!
At this point, the battery probably needs to be replaced anyway....Just buy a battery.

Why cut it off? More structural strength in putting the mould over the damaged existing pole and saves time.

I would have loved removing the old terminal. Then taking it to recycling. Then buying another battery with LONG term warranty.
If you empty acid it’s fine, if not, you’ve killed it
At that point I just buy a brand new battery. Those tools are more expensive than a new battery, and probably won't even used them again for that 😆.
