Good things we can appreciate about your trip:
1. It might have been cloudy, but it did not rain or storm so the ocean stayed calm. No motion sickness medicine needed.
2. The boat passed by an active volcano but it did not explode and never bombarded the boat with hot molten lava. 😀You survived to tell the tale.
3. you missed out on the rice balls 1st day but bought extra next day to make up for it.
4. If there was dust on the furniture, that means it had been a long time since it had been used. you were 1st in a long time, feel special. 😀
5. They had curry available.
6. While passing Jurassic Park island, Godzilla did not rise from the depths of the ocean to eat your boat for lunch. That is always a bonus.😁
7. They did have a form of curry, remember?
I have to admit that I, too, thought of Godzilla.

It does seem expensive for a suite full of (as you diplomatically put it) history, and the food- not the best you've had, I'm sure. I would love to see that Yoron blue in person, but will only do so vicariously through you. Thanks for taking us along.

When my daughter was in Japan last year, I convinced her to Facetime me from her overnight Sunflower ferry between Osaka and Beppu.

Congratulations on 300K Subs. At 23:58 I started singing the Sunflower theme. I suspect this ferry survives only because of the island traffic. It serves a purpose but offers little for what you pay. The shop is only open in port. The restaurant is only open for 30 minutes for lunch and dinner. I agree it was disappointing, and offered nothing special except the beautiful blue sea and several curries. The Sunflower Ferry will make up for it.
I really enjoy watching your work. Sorry the trip didn't work out how you wanted, and that the cabin was expensive for what you got, but I still had fun. Thanks for continuing to make fun travel content!
Yeah, looks to be a shipping vessel first and passenger ship second. It's serviceable for what it is but maybe not worth the upgrade.

I actually liked the ferry. No it wasn’t super fancy but it looked comfortable and the food looked good. I’m sure you got some good rest so it served its purpose well 😊 thanks for sharing your adventure with us.
The cabin was spacious and had everything one needed. Forget about the vintage it was adequate for a night for the price. The food was a bit ordinary all this vending machine stuff I would pay a bit more and get a bit of class. A traveller Phil Goodman

Ah! I just watched Princess Mononoke a couple days ago in theaters. They were doing a by-request Fathom showing, as part of a Ghibli celebration. And that cabin was definitely overpriced. BUT, it is probably one of dozens of ways to help offset the operating expense of such a long, local trip.
Now about those signs where you can't open at night for safety, If you turn off your cabin lights and sit in the dark.. you can keep those open.. its pretty cool.

I've just found your channel and I am hooked. My nightly ritual is to watch 2-3 videos a night. I just have one question...Do you have hollow legs with the amount of food you eat😂😂
That's nothing, he had a few video's when he started of all you can eat buffet and he got his monies worth, when they had a good curry rice, the ferry lost money.
Great trip. I don't know in Japan they have system called Cross subsidize or not for islanders route like this, so they charged more for luxury cabin to make ferry trip between islands is affordable. Also, since the departure on this route is alternately daily between two companies, I think they have more time to clean the room. Overall great food, great experience onboard even though it's only human daily/basic activities.
No …the food was very basic. The room as he described, was a disappointment. Certainly not one of his most satisfying trips… Lets be honest here.
Thank you for sharing as always. You very charitably called it "retro". I call it "retro crap-tastic"! In other news, I'm getting pretty good at playing a game I like to call "Name That Food/Ingredient on the Tray". I can pick out Miso and Japanese Pickles from about 2 meters away!😁

Considering the length of the trip and what you got I'd say it was pricey. Those modest meals s/h been included.
The cabin was very plain and dated. But such an interesting trip with lots of different ports of call. It’s always interesting to watch what goes on at each stop.
I wonder how the other ferry operator compares with A Line?

I took Dramamine once for a 6-hour train ride. I slept like a baby the whole way. Luckily, our companion woke me up.

A dusty room with no hand soap for close to $400? That room better include a charming ghost butler because it sure doesn't have anything else going for it. Bad luck on this one, eh? Store outta onigiri (at first, anyway) and dry beef with dinner, too. At least the waters weren't too rough.

Oh dear, you are quite right…It certainly was not worth that expense…The food was so basic it was sad.. I can’t imagine how hungry you must have been on this trip 🙀?? .. The restaurant timings were so mean too. Only open for 30 each time…🤨. And lets not talk about the room..!

No toothpaste? Room didn't look deluxe to me, looks like a cheap hotel room. When you said you were going to relax on the bed, I thought, hope there's no bedbugs. Do you get salad dressing?

For what you paid that was a pretty rubbish ship. 1: The cabin looked as if it hadn’t been updated since your parents were teenagers. 2: the ship was rusty and seemed poorly looked after. 3: who on earth closes a store soon after your departure in the morning. Seems as if they want to rip people off. And the food looked as if it was served at school- sorry I get Japanese food for takeaway here in Australia from a Japanese restaurant and it is ten times better looking than what you had. And I get Gyudon regularly.
