The footswitches on the Line 6 HX Stomp and Helix are really powerful. If you add aux switches the possibilities are even broader! Not only can you bypass effects and tap tempo but you enable MIDI like multi-switching of effects or change parameters of effects similar to snapshots. This opens up a world of possibilities and can also help you save DSP or blocks. By programming certain changes you can get rid of the need for separate boost or gain stages. Ultimately this will give you even more flexibility when creating great patches for the HX Stomp or Helix.

Loved the video Michael, great tips and tricks and really well explained too , thanks again!
Great video, Michael! I just got a stomp last month, and a week ago decided I needed a footswitch. It’s great to see how someone with experience is using one.
Thanks!
This was super helpful. Thanks for always keeping it real!
Thanks for watching! Glad it helped!
GREAT VIDEO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is so helpful and informative! Thank you!!!
Thanks for the great tips!
Finally helpful information thx
Thank you so much. I could not for the life of me remember how to assign the S4 and S5.
Great video! Very informative. I also bought the Greer Lightspeed based on your recommendation.
Thanks!!
Michael thanks for this video. I know its old one but I'm having to condense my rig down to a fly-rig. My HX Stomp does the trick. But always seem to need that one extra switch to control something.
Very helpful! Idk why L6 doesn’t do videos like this.
Very interesting use of footswitches. Recently, I've been wondering if a momentary switch could be used to turn on a Wah and emulate it ramping up when the switch is held down, then ramp down when released. Your video makes me think that it might actually be possible. Thanks
Great tips @michaelwwestbrook I set my channels up using snapshots. The snapshot allows me to turn effects off/on or switch amps. I use my 2 button footswitch to move to different presets. DSP is always a challenge....but I've got 4-5 sets of presets for making different tones for the band.
Nice! Yeah, I’ve used snapshots some but this way makes more sense to me and works for my needs. I love the flexibility and different ways you can accomplish it all on the HX. Props to line 6 for that for sure
@@MichaelWWestbrook For sure props to @line6.
That's how mine is set up as well.
Thanks Michael for your tips and feedback! I ended up getting a HX stomp (sweetwater worship bundle) and a powercab plus and an ampero switch. Glad I didn't go Stomp XL as you advised! Couldn't be happier. no more lugging my big tube amps to church, retreats and wedding gigs. For my church board, it's just going to be a HX stomp and Earthquaker Palisades. keeping it really simple. for wedding cover band gigs, it will require my bigger board. Michael when you play at church or gigs, I imagine you connect the Stomp 1/4 to 1/4 house mixer PA system? or Di box to house? what do you use for monitors? wedge or in ear? our church only has wedges. I'm just wondering is that enough, or should I bring the powercab too for a monitor.
Hi, can i assign 1 footswitch to turn on/off an effect and hold it to turn on the tuner as opposed to assign 1 switch to a tuner/tap tempo ?
Man. I bought one of the exact same switches last week.
Nice!
Great video. I have a question. We know that you can turn on and off multiple blocks at the same time. My question is: can you turn on a block and change parameters of that block or another block at the same time? (Without using snapshot mode)
How can you combine two amps and two IR running parallel? I run out of DSP...
Whats the difference of assigning parameters to a switch as your example c.t. using snapshots?
Can we change only the banks using the midi controller with just one click ???up & down.. kindly let me know
Is there any possibility to set footswitch same as other line6 product for example pod 500hd..which is when press pedal 2 pedal 1 or others are automaticly off...any explanation pls
Hey Michael! Great video... I just got my HX Stomp---and will be adding this add-on foot switch! Can you tell me what type of TRS cable you're using in this video? I like the flat look----both on the actual cable and right-angle connectiors. THANKS SO MUCH!
That’s one from EBS. There are a few different makers now that make similar cables. Rock stock included
Super helpful video! Are there other (non-midi) external foot switches that have more than two or will the Stomp only allow two more at max?
Not that I know of, I think the HX limits that
Mine has never worked out of the box. I contacted the company, and they seemed to say my issue was a problem for Line6. So, I put it away, and bought a different box and more expensive from a reputable dealership.
Thanks! How do you set the light to do what you want in the case of combined commands for a single switch?
Just touch the switch, if it has multiple assignments, it will cycle through them changing colours each time to the next DSP block it is assigned to.
Previously never used with my hands and didnt know this, thank you my friend!
Look up the Jet micro midi switcher. It is made specifically for the stomp and does what this pedal does plus some.
I've use snapshots to do this but the idea of doing it with assigned format switch settings is an interesting alternative way to do it ... plus you get colored lights instead of just white that way :)
Yeah, I’m familiar with the Jet. Cool features but it cost substantially more though!
Yeah, I used snapshots some but this way makes more sense to me. I understand that’s not going to be the case with everyone but thought some folks might find it interesting/helpful. The lights are a plus for sure!
Could be used to switch the banks on tc eletronic plethora x5?
Not familiar with it but if it accepts changes via midi I’m sure it’s totally do able!
If i use that 5 foot to on and off effects how i change presets?
It really depends on how you use it if that kind of setup makes since for you. I tend to live on a “preset” and turn effects on and off
if you do this, what's the point of getting a Crunchwrap supersized extra fries Stomp XL? serious question though, I'm undecided on what to get, stomp or XL? I run nice traditional stomp box pedal board into my M13. I'd like to get a stomp or XL to replace the M13 and use it for IRs amp cab sim, so I can plug straight into house for church worship. (i get to lose the weight of tube amps and m13) is the stomp enough or do you wish you had the XL for the extra footswitches? for a stomp I'd probably run different amp IR sims, 1 reverb, 2 delays, chorus or tremolo, eq. plug that in with my traditional pedals, probably use my palisades for drive, JHS AT+, pigtronix comp, boost. What do you think? Stomp or XL? Thanks Michael for your awesome content!
For me personally, I don't have a need for the XL. Sometimes when I'm using it for just effects the extra footswitches would be nice... But if I'm using it for amp modeling and IR's those blocks don't get turned on and off so I'm really just using footswtiches for the effects. Because of the limited number of blocks I wouldn't be able to use all of the footswitches anyways (for how I run things). I also like the smaller size
@@MichaelWWestbrook Thanks so much for your advice and clarification Michael! More pedal board space is always a plus. Will get the midi switch your recommend too. Will probably get a powercab plus too to use as a monitor, and I guess that plugs into house via XLR because the stomp doesn't have XLR. and I imagine the powercab is very light compared to lugging tube amps around
Can you use a TRS footswitch & Expression pedal as well as a midi controller essentially giving you 8+ control switches?
You can't do expression and the TRS switch unless it's a midi expression
@@MichaelWWestbrook I've been using the TRS imput with one switch and a dunlop mini expression pedal. Can't I still use these as well as a midi controller like the Jet Micro?
Did the trs cable come with your external footswitch or did you buy it separately?
I think most of the time they are sold separately
@@MichaelWWestbrook Thank you , I've been looking for a short right angle but I can't seem to find anything smaller than 1 foot. Great content by the way
