We pronounce Exmouth as Exmuhth :) loving the videos
Intuitively that’s what we thought because it’s definitely how it would be pronounced in other English speaking countries. And then we looked up several Australian vloggers who all pronounced it Ex-MOUTH.
Now I have no idea what to think 😂

@@diannecain1 Yes but we have a bit of a history of pronouncing places how they are spelled and not always accurate. Also, @OnePackWanderers you are going to experience the same when you eventually reach Tasmania, if you ever visit Lachlan, Tasmania you will hear different pronunciations.

Your videos are authentic, not overly edited and glamorised, I think people crave content like this + budget friendly is authentic and realistic too! Especially given the cost of living crisis, your content is relatable and deserves more views. One of the things I love about Australia are the little self-served vegetable stalls, where not only do people not nick (that's shop lift in Australian) the vegetables, they don't take the box with all the money either. This is the standard that societies must reach to be safe. It's a small compensation for having all the other things in the natural environment that will kill you on your journey.

You can get some great produce of high quality and some that is not common in grocery stores.

I backpacked in Europe in true budget style, buying marked down tins of food in supermarkets where we couldn't read the language and had no idea what was in the tin, lol ... makes for some fun!

From Arizona. Was just on the west coast August-September 2023. Saw a lot of where you were. Spent a month in Kalbarri and ventured out to many beaches (4x4 required). Absolutely stunning. I’m ready to go back! Safe travels

Just for a piece of trivia for you. Exmouth was known a while back for having the largest American Naval Submarine base in Australia. The town was created to house and supply them. So the place used to be FULL of Americans. 😀
When I was a kid we’d be amazed by the accents. 😂
Also, if your headed to Darwin check out the American presence there during WW2. It was a big deal. And the place still has a large American armed forces contingent
More recently it caters for the joint Australian and United States naval communication station located on the north-west coast of Australia, 6 kilometres (4 mi) north of the town of Exmouth, Western Australia.
Darwins aviation mueseum has a b52 bomber inside.
It was NOT an American naval base but an Australian facility that allowed the US to use it.
Brisbane has a memorial along the northside of the the River. Dedicated to the U.S Navy Sub Base that was a vital staging area for U.S Naval Forces in WWII.

Nice you guys . "Not safe to drive at night in Australia" , you didn't explain , Kangaroo's and even cattle can jump out on you on the road and you don't want to hit any of them . When you get to Broome make sure you see the dinosaur tracks , the crocodile farm is good too but a bit out of town , you can hold a baby croc Tia :-)

I went to Exmouth in 1988 and was on the first bus to ever go there according to the driver who said that only Bus Australia went there and this was the very first trip. The only passengers on the bus were myself and girlfriend. When we got to the town, it was full of Americans and American vehicles. We cycled to Turquoise Bay and were the only ones there, but I had sunburn so couldn't swim in that amazing place. The aerials were there and that site was occupied by the US military. There were heaps of kangaroos and emu along the road. It was truly amazing.

The noisy birds at the start are Sulphur Crested Cockatoos. Very loud, and love to strip a eucalyptus tree of its leaves if they settle in it.

Exmouth is jammed back in winter due to the Grey Nomads ( older people/ retirees who own caravans and 4WDs) , they go there to escape Perth for winter 😂
A lot more not so young people travelling in vans and Motorhomes. Many young families.

Yes I agree, what's going on in our Country, apparently food vendors were selling a sausage sizzle at the Sydney vivid show a few days ago for $8.60 now that's a rip-off,a slice of bread with a thin sausage on top.
But also don’t forget these towns are remote and everything has to travel a long long way to get there. If you’ve seen the price of fuel in these areas you’ll understand.

In Australia there are websites or places you can go for half price tickets to tourist attractions and accomodation in Australia. Also entertainment as well. A lot of Australians in times past have used this as an option, because a lot of Australians have to be budget conscious. At present there is a housing crisis. In times of crisis people go on holidays and travel, particularly if they are homeless. Its easy to find these places online, just make sure its a reputable site. Glad to see you back in Australia, hope you have a lovely time.❤ Bob's your uncle and Fanny's your aunt. Sunsets and sunrises on the water, always gorgeous in Australia, and I get to see beautiful sunsets from my bedroom window, nothing like it. We always we need to remember what we have. Finally someone from USA are getting us with what we wear and our dress style and fashion sense...a lot of the time we live in places where no one really cares.;..its just you in nature. Gorgeous rockwallaby. But beautiful alone places in Australia has its challenges with isolation for a lot of Australians.

It’s a great time to visit Karijini and Millstream National Parks.
I don’t know when you filmed this vid, but the rain they are currently receiving as I write this, will be turning the usual golden spinifex to a magnificent greener colour very soon and the landscape will be transformed. It’s incredibly gorgeous.

You mentioned that it’s dangerous to drive at night in Australia . . without elaborating. I once drove across the Nullarbor and passed an amazing site. Black skid marks extending for 100 metres then curling off to the left. At the end of the skid marks was a pile of six large dead kangaroos. Clearly a large truck ploughed through a mob of kangaroos dashing across the highway ( at speed) and collected a number of them on the bull bars up front and he locked up his brakes, came to a screeching stop, then backed away, and continued his nighttime journey. Had that been a car or even a 4x4 it would have been a major collision.
Best to travel in daylight hours when the Roos are resting. Camels are also a danger.
Getting towards the middle of winter here and I'm on the other side of Oz watching you guys swimming in the ocean with Lovely weather and beaches. Damn 😜

I'm not sure I would have gone into the ocean around that area. They have box jellyfish and irukandji sometimes. At least it wasn't the worst part of the year for them which is in October and November.

As Yippe rightly cautions, if you don't have the suits like you had on the reef, then you should think twice before swimming in the ocean up there and further north.
The major box jellyfish and/or the Irukandji box jellyfish are super small and translucent. The body is about the size of a sugar cube and the tentacles range in size up to about a metre or so.
Contrary to popular belief, applying vinegar is not recommended, because it can actually have the opposite effect to bluebottle stings, where it instead can stimulate and activate the stinging barbs that might not have triggered when first coming into contact.

Box jellyfish and irukandji are a summertime occurrence, so these two are well outside the season where they have to worry-especially this far south.
When we did the 13,000km drive from Darwin to Sydney via WA with our four young kids, Coral Bay and Exmouth were two of our favourite destinations. Coral Bay has kept its natural charm because development was deliberately halted, so camping and caravans are the only options. From there you can sail out to see manta rays, dugongs, whale sharks and other marine creates. At Exmouth we stayed in the former American military intelligence base when bunk rooms were offered (1998). At night we would return to the beach to watch out for turtles, which would come onshore to lay their eggs.
If it helps, when I moved from Adelaide to Sydney I said most of the places in my local area wrong. Adelaidians speak with a different accent than the east coast. Everything here is just so harsh sounding and the vowel sounds are longer than I am used to. So you don’t have to be from the US to say the names of places wrong, you can be from a different Australian state and you still get it wrong.

Thanks again, so sad you didn't get more time in Coral Bay guys but glad you had a snorkelling experience anyway in Exmouth. So many incredible sunsets await you as you head up the Western Coast. Fingers crossed Broome's Cable Beach does the right thing for you. It's a well known thing here that after Mother's Day in May Aussie caravanners etc migrate North so accommodation, campsites (free or otherwise) are hard to get and the costs dramatically increase. Australia IS expensive to travel around hence many of us go to Asia..lol Looking forward to your future offerings and adventures in the Pilbara plus. Happy Trails :)
It's pronounced Kal-Barry, Cnaarvn, Ex - mouth (as in cake hole). Pity you missed a swim at Coral Bay- beautiful full-on reef a short swim away. There used to be snappers coming into 300mm deep water (dozens of them) for a feeding frenzy - not sure if they still do that.
So far you guys are tracking the same path as what the family & I did 2 years ago. From Perth to Northampton to Kalbarri to Coral Bay to Exmouth to Karijini to Marble Bar (via Port Headland due to flooded roads / River crossings due to Cyclone / heavy rain) & then back down to Perth via the inland route /towns. Great Road trip with a Camper Trailer staying at various Cattle Stations along the way.
Great sunset time-lapse, WA definitely has some rippers, and yep Tia its Exmouth and Carnarvon is K Narvn,Aussies tend to drop vowels except for the Ah / AR ..though we throw an OH on many words... bottlo,arvo, servo, etc

Aussie here - welcome home!
I love Exmouth ,the water is so blue and clean. Twelve years ago it was popular but we could book a couple of weeks out and we were lucky enough to get the last spot at the National Park overlooking the beach for 5 days. We did the reef swim twice on clear days and saw sea turtles. You can wade out to the water in Exmouth just 50 metres and it's shallow and full of colourful fish. The sunsets in that part of the coast are unbelievable.
The towers you saw are a VLF station that communicates with submarines and other secret stuff. There is a large American base there named after Harold Holt.
It's a beautiful part of the world, spent a lot of time in Exmouth and up the coast to Broome and Derby in the 70's and 80's.
In Broome, go to Haven for breakfast. Chilli scrambled eggs with kimchi! *chef kiss*
You have a 4wd now, you can go to Wolfe Creek Crater. Amazingly peaceful campground, plus it’s free!!
And watch the movie after you visit.
Exhmouth is awesome especially if you like seafood , and the towers are from the Harold E Holt Communication Base

Cheveyo you are correct in your pronunciation of Mandu Mandu Gorge - it is Man - doo - and most likely an Indigenous name since the Indigenous people are the traditional owners of Cape Range National Park
The towers you saw are from the Harold E Holt joint US-Aus naval communications base. The tallest tower -Tower Zero is the tallest structure in Australia (not tallest building).
Insanely Good Snorkelling in Coral Bay, and they have local Golden Trevally near the spit that actually swim beside you.....
You 2 should so make nature documentaries, the UK has David Attenborough and the US has Tia & Cheveyo, and your "nature documentaries" would be by far the most fun, maybe not the most correct, informative or scientific, but defiantly more fun, and if that gets people watching nature documentaries who wouldn't otherwise, I'm all for it 👍

It's usually discovered on the road trips around Australia.
I work not too far from where all this footage was taken, you may well have even driven past the turn off if you were travelling to Kununurra. It's a beautiful part of the world, I have to say.

Highly recommend checking out or even staying at Bullara station stay if your still in the area, I think you will love it, very cool setup.
If it's not on your list you have to go to the Purnululu National Park, you need a 4wd to get there which you now have. You won't be disappointed, it is possibly the most spectacular place in Australia.
