  • In this video, you will see Japanese motorcycles with a "boxer" engine, which very rarely reached the European and American markets, and therefore are not widely known in Europe and America.
    Many thanks to all bikers and motorcycle fans who contributed their videos to our motorcycle channel. If you have a motorcycle at home that you built yourself, or an old, interesting or unusual motorcycle that you would like to show, please send me short videos from your camera or mobile phone to: We Transfer - jawatinomoto@gmail.com
    I will process your videos and publish them on our motorcycle CZcams channel - Jawa Tino

    In 1971 on a one lane road in Northern California a guy rode up to me on a Marusho. I never forgot our conversation about bikes.

    marusho did try to enter the usa market with a very nice 500 boxer. but there was a design flaw in the clutch which destroyed their reputation. it was fixable, but too late.

    I ride a 2002 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 800. I've rode m/c Japanese and American for the last 55yrs. That Gold Wing GL1000 is impressive.

      I just picked up a nice 1979 gl1000 that’s been sitting for a few years, cleaning the carbs which weren’t horrible but was a necessary step next up will be brakes and tires. I’ve only had it for a couple weeks but should have it rideable this weekend if things cooperate, can’t wait to ride it! So iconic and it’s really surprising how much smaller and lighter it is than my 98 Valkyrie tourer…. Should be fun😊

      Unfortunately, the GL 1000 killed many. An effect, that 1st ocurred on some Vincent bikes (don't recall the exact model, sorry!) It was recorded, that 5 of 7 bikes sold in France killed their riders within a few months. They called it "speed wobble". While that happened on the Vincents at high speed, I came to read stories, where this happened
      on GL 1000 even at low speeds like 80 km/h. In result (here in Germany), it was not allowed to fit them with windshields or saddle bags. What a poor regulation.

    当時の「メグロ」は左右逆で、制動時に怖かったです。

    My father was a dealer for them in the 1960’s. The engine was a poor copy of the BMW. Short life. My father had two of them. He sold one only to have the owner bring it back due to the engine self destructing. The internal generator flew apart. And the other bike my father road to work only to break down 20 miles from home. This one the cam gear failed. The bike was a design disaster. Years later after my father passed away I found the bike apart on a shelf. I scrapped the engine for the aluminum.

    The port configuration on the first motorcycle shown indicates that it must have a piston-port, opposed cylinder, two stroke engine. It sounds like a two stroke at idle but a four stroke riding by. I am so confused.

    • @t.s.racing
      @t.s.racing Před 2 lety

      I struggled with some old blueprints sent to me by a friend, and it appears to be a FLATHEAD engine with both intake and exhaust valves in a chamber at the top of the cylinder. The actual cylinder head being just a cover to seal the combustion as well as contain the spark plug. Think, Briggs and Stratton before the overhead valve, or even the Ford flat head engine, etc. Again, the blueprints are EXTREMELY fuzzy. I would absolutely believe this to be a 4 stroke configuration.
      I hope this helps 🙏

      The first one definitely looks & sounds like a 2 stroke. I didn’t see anything for the push rods like the 2nd bike had either..

    • @chadkline4268

      The heads, from outside to inside, according to similar BMW designs, would be the rocker arm covers, rocker arms, valves + pushrods + actual cylinder heads, pistons + cylinders, and crank at the center. The alternator sits in the case above the crank, and the front cover exposes the points, then the timing chain. Probably a well stocked toolkit under the seat, and maybe a tire pump inserted into a central frame tube. The magneto's would be outside somewhere under the seat, along with the battery.

      These aren't two strokes

    • @peterdoe2617
      @peterdoe2617 Před rokem

      It's a sidevalve 4stroke. The head (on it's inside) covers the piston on one side. And both valves (next to each other) on one side, next to the piston. Both valves pushed upwards by a camshaft down in the block. Their flaw was to potentially burn the small amount of metal between in and outlet valve.
      I.e. Harley WLS where made like this. They are called flatheads.

    Saw one Marusho. C.1971. Dirt cheap. Not reliable. Cloned a BMW.... Had a Rabbit scooter in 2012, sold it to a Vespa nut. Rabbits have a big following in Japan

    Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
    In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
    on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!
